RUSH: There\u2019s one guy on the Democrat side, and there may be more, but there\u2019s one guy who is not afraid of Obama\u2019s incompetence in foreign policy at all. In fact, there\u2019s a guy out there that is not worried about much of anything here, except Israel. Does that give you a hint as to who it might be? The problem in Paris: Israel. Terror attacks around the world: Israel. Because of their mistreatment of the Palestinians. <\/p>\n

He\u2019s an American. Jimmy Carter. Wait \u2019til you hear this. This is Monday on The Daily Show. Excuse me. I almost belched there. He was on Comedy Central, and he was asked this question: “I view ‘this extremism\u2019 as a kind of pretext, this idea that it\u00c2\u2019s a religious backing, seems a pretext for just powerless… they\u00c2\u2019re angry, nihilistic, and if they did not have the religious part, it would be something else, they would use something else as a pretext to be violent in this way.”<\/p>\n

Does anybody know what Jimmy Carter\u2019s being asked here? Did you understand that question? Let me see if I think I understand the question. Well, it\u2019s important to understand the question before you get the answer. I don\u2019t know what he\u2019s asking. Here\u2019s the exact, verbatim quote of the question. “I view ‘this extremism\u2019 as sort of a pretext.” There\u2019s no pretext. It actually happened. It\u2019s not a harbinger. It happened. Twelve people are dead. What pretext? Well, let\u2019s be patient. <\/line><\/p>\n

“I view ‘this extremism\u2019 as a kind of pretext, this idea that it\u00c2\u2019s a religious backing, seems a pretext for … they\u00c2\u2019re angry, nihilistic.” Does anybody know what that means? You want to take a stab? What do you think it means? (interruption) Okay, so the question to Carter, “Hey, it\u2019s not that they\u2019re religious, it\u2019s not that they\u2019re Islamist. They\u2019re just ticked off. They\u2019re just angry, and they\u2019re using their Islamism as the reason, but if it weren\u2019t that they\u2019d come up with –” Is that what the question is? (interruption) So they\u2019re not really Islamists. They\u2019re just a bunch of — they need some adderall. They need some ADHD med meds. They\u2019re too active and they\u2019re running around shooting people, and if America didn\u2019t have such stupid gun control laws it probably wouldn\u2019t have happened in Paris, right? <\/p>\n

So if it didn\u2019t have a religious part to it, it would be something else. They\u2019d be mad about something else. They would use some other pretext to be violent, is the question he\u2019s asking Carter, “Look, these guys really aren\u2019t Islamists, right? They\u2019re just a bunch of angry toughs, and if it weren\u2019t Islam they\u2019d be mad about something else. Is that right, Mr. President?” Here\u2019s Carter\u2019s answer.<\/p>\n

CARTER: One of the origins for it is the Palestinian problem. You know, and this aggravates people who are affiliated in any way with the Arab people who live in the West Bank and Gaza, what they\u2019re doing now, what\u2019s being done to them. But I think that\u2019s part of it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Obviously Carter didn\u2019t understand the question either because his answer is a total — Jon Stewart\u2019s asking (imitating Stewart), “So, look, these guys aren\u2019t really Islamists. You know the game here, Mr. President, we\u2019ve gotta defend these guys. We\u2019ve gotta defend militant Islam if we\u2019re gonna be politically correct. They\u2019re not militant Islamists. They\u2019re not even Islamists, they\u2019re just saying so. They\u2019re using it as their excuse, right?” <\/line><\/p>\n

And Carter\u2019s supposed to say, “That\u2019s exactly right. These young men, if they\u2019re not mad about this, they would be mad about the Israelis. If they weren\u2019t mad about this, they\u2019d be mad that I\u2019m not president anymore. You\u2019re exactly right.” That was supposed to be the answer, but instead Carter says, “Well, one of the origins for this,” and he\u2019s talking about the whole event in Paris. He\u2019s not even reacting to the question. “One of the origins for this is the Palestinian problem, you know, and this aggravates people who are affiliated in any way with the Arab people who live in the West Bank and Gaza and what they\u2019re doing now, what\u2019s being done to them. I think that\u2019s part of it.” <\/p>\n

You know, it\u2019s no wonder college kids love this show. Who can possibly translate this? But, anyway, that\u2019s the setup to the big one that comes next. Jimmy Carter thinks that terrorism is gonna end up being good PR for Islam. All right? Here\u2019s the question. This is on Huffing and Puffington Post live. This is a different host. This is Marc Lamont Hill, and he says to Jimmy Carter, “There\u00c2\u2019s been a concern among some Islamic leaders that that very small percentage, that a handful of people in relation to billions of people are unfairly being seen as representatives of the religion and that it\u00c2\u2019s producing a kind of Islamophobia around the world. Are you seeing that?”<\/p>\n

So two times here, different places, Jimmy Carter is being asked to agree with the premise, “Hey, there is no Islamism here. These are just a bunch of radical extremists. This is not what Islam is.” And Carter is supposed to agree with both premises. And here\u2019s what he says in answer to this attempt to get him to agree with them.<\/p>\n

CARTER: I think this is going to give a lot of people an incentive to look into Islam and see what is it about this religion that makes it great, that makes it appeal to really billions of people, and to understand that the Islamic leaders condemn this kind of terrorism just like the rest of the world condemns it.<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: I\u2019m sorry. Is that not — I guarantee you, Leslie Gelb is probably afraid of this guy, too. You talk about non sequitur nonsensical. Okay, let\u2019s parse this. Again, Marc Lamont Hill is trying to get Jimmy Carter to agree that the terrorists are not really Islamists, they\u2019re not representative of the great religion of Islam. Just say yes, Mr. President, and go on to the next show. <\/p>\n

Instead, Jimmy Carter said, “I think this is gonna give a lot of people incentive to look into Islam and what it is about this religion that makes it great.” Yeah, militant Islamists killing 12 people is gonna make all of us curious to go find out what\u2019s great about this religion. Jimmy Carter: the fact that they run around doing all this terrorism, I mean, that\u2019s gonna make an appeal to really billions of people. It does appeal to billions of people, and we\u2019re gonna be investigating here to find out why, to understand the Islamic leaders, condemn this kind of terrorism. Just like the rest of the world. <\/p>\n

Look, I don\u2019t want to be insolent here, but who\u2019s he talking about? Do you know? Where are these Islamic leaders who\u2019ve condemned it? Help me out here. I\u2019m telling you, I don\u2019t know. Are there any? Have you seen any? I haven\u2019t. But I don\u2019t want to say there haven\u2019t been any if there are. (interruption) Who? Like who? Give me a name. (interruption) Just say Mohammed, okay? Just say Ahmed. Give me a name. Who? (interruption) Okay, nobody in there can give me a name. Off the top of their heads they can\u2019t remember a militant — sorry — Islamic leader condemning this. I can\u2019t, either. I\u2019m not saying that they haven\u2019t. <\/p>\n

I\u2019m still stuck on Jimmy Carter saying terrorism will make people look at Islam to see what\u2019s great about it. If anything, people are gonna look into Islam to find out what the heck is it that\u2019s motivating terrorists. That\u2019s what people are gonna investigate. (interruption) You got one. Who? (interruption) Salmon Rushdie. Don\u2019t give me Salman Rushdie. Salman Rushdie dates women that are 18 years old. You can\u2019t run around and tell me that he\u2019s a moderate Muslim leader. He\u2019s an author. Salman Rushdie, he\u2019s not even an imam. Salman Rushdie? <\/p>\n

This is incredible. Carter actually thinks that these militant acts of terrorism are gonna cause people to get curious about Islam. What they\u2019re gonna be doing, if anything, is investigating it to find out what is it that is inspiring this. I mean, Jimmy Carter, he\u2019s in effect saying Islam must be great, look at how its followers kill people who won\u2019t accept it. Well, that\u2019s what it\u2019s all about, infidels. <\/p>\n

Okay, there is one. There is one. Somebody named el-Sisi, or el-Sisi. Somebody named el-Sisi is the only person who\u2019s condemned militant Islamic extremism. I read his name in the show prep today. El-Sisi, but I can\u2019t remember any more about him than that. <\/p>\n

Quick time-out. We\u2019ll get to your phone calls when we come back and give continual thanks that Jimmy Carter is no longer president. But actually we\u2019ve got Jimmy Carter\u2019s second term here. And Hillary Clinton is gonna be his third if she ever gets elected, make no mistake about that.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. He is the current president of Egypt. He was the general who overthrew the Muslim Brotherhood, Obama\u2019s buddies in Egypt. That is why he\u2019s the only Islamic leader of any type that I\u2019m aware of who has come out and criticized militant Islamism. In fact, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi actually has called for a revolution in Islam. <\/p>\n

He was in the Egyptian military and participated in ousting the Muslim Brotherhood. Obama\u2019s buddies. That\u2019s way, way, way back there in the Arab Spring. So neither Jimmy Carter nor Obama would have much use for Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. I can\u2019t think of anybody else.
