RUSH ARCHIVE: I would like to know if she left anything in the tip jar, because that would be an indication that she understands the average, ordinary, everyman that she seeks to represent. I mean, that\u2019s where the people that work at Chipotle, that\u2019s where they make a little extra, in the tip jar, and I haven\u2019t heard a word about whether or not she visited the tip jar, whether she put anything in it or not. <\/p>\n

<\/a>RUSH: Well, now we know from Bloomberg News<\/a>, Chipotle manager: “Chipotle Manager: Hillary Clinton Didn\u2019t Leave Anything in Tip Jar — One of the great political mysteries of the early 2016 presidential campaign has been solved: Hillary Clinton did not leave a tip at the Chipotle restaurant she visited during her road trip to Iowa on Sunday.”<\/p>\n

The bill was 20 bucks and change, and Huma paid the bill. And they mention here that the whole thing was a creation of Rush Limbaugh, who first asked if she had left a tip. Now, why did Bloomberg go investigate this? Bloomberg hoped to learn that she had so that they could write a story of how unfair and mean, biased, and prejudiced I am. And it backfired on \u2019em. I am convinced they went in there trying to find a defense for her.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Here is the Bloomberg story. It\u2019s written by David Knowles, and I tell you, I have to admit I was stunned when I saw this because I didn\u2019t think anybody would look into it. The Drive-Bys are not oriented that way so I was kind of surprised. But here\u2019s how the story reads. <\/p>\n

“One of the great political mysteries of the early 2016 presidential campaign has been solved: Hillary Clinton did not leave a tip at the Chipotle restaurant she visited during her road trip to Iowa on Sunday.”<\/p>\n

Now, come on. See, there\u2019s a little snark right there in the lead. “One of the great political mysteries of the 2016 campaign”? It clearly doesn\u2019t rise to that level. I\u2019m convinced that what happened here, either they heard it at Bloomberg or somebody told them that I suggested, that I prognosticated, that I predicted, that I wagered that Hillary, \u2019cause I know her, I know these people, that she didn\u2019t leave a tip. I said, “They got a tip jar at Chipotle and I bet you she didn\u2019t leave a tip.” <\/p>\n

\"original\"So I\u2019m convinced that what Bloomberg wanted to do was find out that she did and thereby be able to write a story ridiculing me. They clearly, because you can tell by the snark of the lead. They weren\u2019t really interested in whether she left a tip or not. All they wanted to do is be able to show me as wrong. And by referring to this as one of the great political mysteries of the early campaign is a dead giveaway, the snark there. So they walked in there, and I\u2019m convinced that\u2019s why they also mistakenly identified the manager of the place as a Republican, because they wanted backup in the event that she hadn\u2019t paid a tip. They wanted to be able to savage the manager for putting the news out, for sabotaging her. <\/line><\/p>\n

Then they found out the manager\u2019s not a Republican. See, this is how they work at the Drive-By Media. “‘Her bill was $20 and some change, and they paid with $21 and left\u2019 without putting anything in a tip jar on the counter,” said Charles Wright, the manager at the Chipotle store. This was in Maumee, Ohio. Now, in the earlier version of this article, Bloomberg News identified Charles Wright, the manager, as a Republican. I\u2019m telling you, that was to indicate that he might be making this up out of an animus against Hillary. They have since removed that line from their piece, presumably because Charles Wright isn\u2019t a Republican and they can\u2019t now blame him. <\/p>\n

See, here\u2019s the way they think. I go on the air and I raise the possibility, the likelihood like that Mrs. Clinton — a known tightwad, by the way — didn\u2019t leave a tip. The media hears about it, Bloomberg says, “You know what? We\u2019ll smack Limbaugh down. We\u2019re not gonna put up with this.” So they go in there surely to find that Mrs. Clinton left a tip, and the manager says, “No, she didn\u2019t.” Oh, the manager must be a Republican, is the way they think. The manager must be a Republican. They\u2019re setting it up here to be critical, leaking, sabotaging Hillary. That\u2019s what it is, Limbaugh and this guy working together, whatever. It\u2019s the way they think. <\/p>\n

Then they find out the guy\u2019s not a Republican. They find out Hillary did not leave a tip. They find out that Huma did not leave a tip. Now they\u2019re committed. So they write other details, quote the manager saying the other lady paid the bill, that would be Huma, and I don\u2019t even think Bloomberg knew that it was Huma. <\/p>\n

“The change from the meal totaled less than a dollar, but it was pocketed rather than deposited in the tip jar as many customers at the restaurant do, said Wright. ‘We get a bunch of tips,\u2019 said Wright, who only realized that the customer had been the presidential candidate after news organizations began calling the restaurant and he had reviewed surveillance video.”<\/p>\n

See, I told you. I go on the air and I speculate she didn\u2019t leave a tip. Then they call the guy, they want to see surveillance video. They don\u2019t want to take his word for the fact that whoever was paying for it didn\u2019t leave a tip. They want to see the surveillance. So eager are they to report that I lied, or that I got it wrong because of a bias against the Clintons. And it blew up in their face because surveillance video, it became clear they didn\u2019t take anybody\u2019s word, Mrs. Clinton, her traveling party, didn\u2019t leave a tip. And here\u2019s how that is reported. <\/p>\n

“The question of whether Clinton had tipped the workers during the Chipotle stop was first asked by conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh on Tuesday.” Then they quote me. They go on to report the story a little further. And, remember, this lead, “One of the great political mysteries of all time” shows the snark with which they report the story. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
