A news crew from WMAR videotaped her berating her son for taking part in the violence.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The woman can be seen repeatedly slapping her son and yelling at him. She recognized him even though he was wearing a black face mask. Witnesses say she saw her son throwing rocks at police.&#8221; The police commissioner of Baltimore praised this mother. It\u2019s audio sound bite number five. His name is Anthony Batts.<\/p>\n<p>BATTS: You have one mother who grabbed her child who had a hood on his head and she started smacking him on the head because she was so embarrassed. I wish I had more parents being that in charge of their kids out there tonight.<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: What do the kids have to do with this? Stand by, folks. They may have everything to do with this. I referenced earlier the mayor of Philadelphia, Michael Nutter. On CNN\u2019s New Day today, the co-host Chris Cuomo, said, &#8220;You say that commentators don\u2019t understand how to run a big city; commentators don\u2019t know what you may know or the mayor may know. Well, what do you think you know that everybody else doesn\u2019t know, Mayor?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>NUTTER: The commentators don\u2019t know how to run a city because they\u2019re not mayors of cities, so I\u2019m not blowing past anything. What I\u2019m suggesting is that the mayor is in charge. The mayor has information that none of us in particular have. Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake would not want something like this to happen and was not negligent because some of these things took place. I mean, there is some personal responsibility here, whether it\u2019s regarding kids in the afternoon or adults later on. Those children have parents. I\u2019ve seen &#8212; I believe on your station &#8212; a mother grabbing her child and saying, &#8220;You should not be out here in this kind of activity.&#8221; So everyone has a level of responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: There we go again: Big city mayor of Philadelphia praising a woman for getting control of her out-of-control kid. Here is Kweisi Mfume, former name Frizzell Gray. Fox News Happening Now this morning.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zM31KYdswYU\" width=\"585\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>MFUME: What\u2019s been most effective for me and hundreds of other men was to go into the communities yesterday, to get back out there again today. I\u2019ll be leaving here to go back again to kind of talk sense to young people who are very, very angry and to implore parents to make sure that they get a hold of and know where their young people are. We\u2019re just not gonna sit back and idly watch this.<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: Okay, by now, folks, you may be getting the idea that there\u2019s something that has nothing to do with Freddie Gray going on here. All of this attention to kids &#8212; out-of-control kids &#8212; and parents should step up.<\/p>\n<p>BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n<p><img id=\"eZObject_105316\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/live-rush-limbaugh.pantheonsite.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/mom-slap.jpg\" align=\"middle\"><br \/>\nRUSH: You have this woman in Baltimore and everybody\u2019s praising her. The Baltimore police commissioner Anthony Batts praised her. Kweisi Mfume, the former Frizzell Gray, has praised her. Even the former mayor of Philadelphia has praised her. This was not what was supposed to happen. Parents are not supposed to stop the kids from doing this because the kids have a legitimate reason. That\u2019s what we\u2019re to think.<\/p>\n<p>Oppression. They\u2019re being oppressed by somebody. We\u2019re not supposed to ask who because there aren\u2019t any Republicans anywhere nearby here. So it\u2019s just overall American oppression against a portion of the population that it loves to discriminate against. There\u2019s this woman out there and she\u2019s doing praiseworthy things. How long do you think it will be &#8212; and I\u2019m not joking here &#8212; how long do you think it will be before some liberal activist lawyer tries to get hold of the kid and represent him and charge his mother with child abuse and public humiliation.<\/p>\n<p>This is not supposed to happen. I mean, a mother can leave her home and see her kid on TV and go out and slap him upside the head and discipline, fine and dandy. When people find out about it and then the mother gets praised and the kid gets criticized and he\u2019s one of the glorious future protesters out there learning his P\u2019s and Q\u2019s and earning his stripes, that\u2019s not what\u2019s supposed to happen. Parents in Baltimore are supposed to be so oppressed that they don\u2019t have time, they don\u2019t have the energy, they don\u2019t have the ability to worry about their kids.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re too busy trying to provide food and what have you, and withstand all the oppression. Last thing they want is the parent in Baltimore acting as a normal, caring, responsible parent. That\u2019s not part of the narrative. I want to take a phone call before I get back to the kids and explain what this is probably really all about. But before our callers decide to chicken out and hang up before I get to them. It\u2019s a touchy subject.<\/p>\n<p>BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: Ladies and gentlemen, the odds are &#8212; and this is a story from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baltimoresun.com\/news\/maryland\/baltimore-city\/bal-university-of-baltimore-closes-amid-high-school-purge-threat-20150427-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Baltimore Sun<\/a>. Odds are most of the rioting and looting in Baltimore yesterday had nothing to do with the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody. Odds are that most of the rioting and looting in Baltimore yesterday had nothing to do with the cops. It had nothing to do with Ferguson, had nothing to do with &#8220;hands up, don\u2019t shoot.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It had nothing to do with the Gentle Giant, had nothing to do with Rodney King, had nothing to do with anything that you\u2019ve heard of. Probably, more than likely, it had everything to do with a simple little flier about a 2013 movie that celebrated what would happen if there are no laws. Buried near the bottom of this article I\u2019m holding in my formerly nicotine-stained fingers from the Baltimore Sun is this: &#8220;The incident stemmed from a flier that circulated widely among city school students via social media about a &#8216;purge\u2019 to take place at 3 p.m., starting at Mondawmin Mall and ending downtown.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If I\u2019m mispronouncing that, I\u2019m sorry. I\u2019m simply reading it. I\u2019ve never heard it pronounced. I\u2019m pronouncing as it looks. Mondawmin, they might say. Mondawmin Mall. Anyway, &#8220;Such memes have been known to circulate regularly among city school students, based on the [2013] film &#8216;The Purge,\u2019 about what would happen if all laws were suspended. The flier included an image of protesters smashing the windshield of a police car Saturday during a march spurred by the death of Freddie Gray&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So the bottom line is there\u2019s a flier circulated all over town among high school students that they were to converge at the Mondawmin Mall a three o\u2019clock on Monday and start acting out what happened in this movie, The Purge, 2013, which is &#8220;about what would happen if all laws were suspended,&#8221; meaning you could just walk into any store and get what you want. If you didn\u2019t like what the store had, you could burn it down. You could do whatever you want. There aren\u2019t any laws. There are nothing to stop you.<\/p>\n<p>This is what inspired kids to congregate at the mall and act out what was in this movie. Now, the Baltimore Sun story about riots erupting across West Baltimore and downtown doesn\u2019t even get to this until the end of the story. They feature all the details of the rioting and all of the details, the injuries, the damage, and what happened in the midst of the riots. But they don\u2019t get to anything about this all starting on social media. This is yesterday. This is not what happened Saturday. This is yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday was a new series of events which resulted in the mayor deciding to put a curfew in place all week starting tonight, not last night, because the protesters had to be given space. The problem is the cops. You have to restrain the cops. Once the protests start, the cops only make it worse. A police presence &#8212; this is the theory &#8212; provokes them. The theory is you get the cops out of there. Get all forms of oppression, get all signs of authority out of the way, and you\u2019ll have much less damage than if you have a bunch of militarized or uniformed military people or police people in the way.<\/p>\n<p>That will only make it worse.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the same old liberal canard that we\u2019ve heard all while growing up. &#8220;They better not try to catch the bad guy. That\u2019s just gonna make \u2019em angrier. You know, if somebody breaks in your house, let them have whatever they want. Do not engage. Do not make them mad.&#8221; Appeasement, if you will, which is Liberalism 101. When it comes to bad actors, bad people, let \u2019em have their way.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Because if you stop them, if you get in their way, you provoke \u2019em. Why they\u2019re gonna do twice as much damage,&#8221; and this is 26% theory in deploying police officers in places like Baltimore. That\u2019s why the curfew didn\u2019t start until tonight. That\u2019s why she said (paraphrased), &#8220;We\u2019ve gotta give \u2019em space to destroy. Those who want to destroy, we gotta give \u2019em space because anything else is gonna make it worse.&#8221; That\u2019s the convoluted thinking. Let me grab another call quickly before we run out of time. Jerry, Cincinnati, you\u2019re next, EIB Network. Hello, sir.<\/p>\n<p>CALLER: Yes, sir, how are you? Can you hear me? Hello?<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: Yeah, I can hear you, yeah.<\/p>\n<p>CALLER: Okay. Okay. My thing was that back last June when they were having trouble in England and some black lady was watching television saw her child doing, you know, mischief things on camera, she called up and reported him, and I thought, my God, how refreshing that is, you know, that a black parent would actually call up &#8212; or any parent, really, would call up &#8212; and say, &#8220;You know, my kids doing things wrong.&#8221; In this day and age, it\u2019s almost unheard of. And then somebody didn\u2019t do that in Baltimore. I\u2019m really surprised, aren\u2019t you?<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: Well, I\u2019m sorry, Jerry, we just talked about that. Mr. Snerdley didn\u2019t hear it because he\u2019s screening and answering other calls, but we just spent about 15 minutes on that woman and the reaction to her from all the mayors. Yeah, everybody was surprised by it. Everybody was surprised by it. I\u2019ll guarantee you this: There are a lot of people not happy about it. I mean, on the one hand, here we have a bunch of kids rioting and it\u2019s now&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no question it was because of this flier that was sent around.<\/p>\n<p>School-age kids saw the flier. They read about it on social media. The flier called for the rioting to start at three p.m. The flier called for rioting so they could emulate what happened in this movie that they liked, The Purge. Baltimore schools are closed today, so the school-age kids will have time to rest up and get back to their deep mourning. But the schools were not closed when this flier went around on social media.<\/p>\n<p>But on the one hand you have here a young protester who is emblematic and who represents the average young African-American who has had it with this country &#8212; facees impossible futures, oppressed, mistreated, no jobs, no nothing, because of the inherent unfairness of America &#8212; and he\u2019s out making it known. And he\u2019s representing tens of thousands of African-Americans, all over the country. And out of nowhere here comes his mom, slaps him upside the head and brings him back inside.<\/p>\n<p>And literally the image that they wanted to create of this guy as he was representing so many others.
