RUSH: All right, look, you can\u2019t avoid this kind of stuff happening out there. The e-mails, checked \u2019em at the top of the hour: “Hey, you\u2019re giving all this time to Trump. You know, Christie announced yesterday<\/a>, why don\u2019t you give him some?” Okay, okay, okay, I hear you, I understand. <\/p>\n

I do not wanted to be accused of showing anybody any favoritism. This is why I don\u2019t have \u2019em on the program, folks. If I start interviewing one, then I\u2019m gonna have to interview all. Why are you frowning? (interruption) Well, I did talk about Christie but, hey, you know, I happen to have some Christie sound bites here, so it isn\u2019t any big deal. But I don\u2019t want to have to start the interview process and have them all in here. There\u2019s what, 16? I don\u2019t care what any of \u2019em think. (laughing) Well, that\u2019s not true. I\u2019m just joking, folks. <\/p>\n

<\/a>But Christie was on with Hannity last night on the Fox News Channel. One of Hannity\u2019s questions to Chris Christie was (paraphrasing): “It was six days before the 2012 election, after Hurricane Sandy, President Obama shows up, Bloomberg said no to Obama, Cuomo said no, and you let the president come to New Jersey, and I thought my personal opinion was that it was a photo-op, and then there was the hug. You hugged the guy.”<\/p>\n

CHRISTIE: There was no hug. First of all, Bloomberg and Cuomo didn\u2019t say no. The president didn\u2019t ask to go to New York. He asked to come to New Jersey. My job was to make sure that when the president came there, I was courteous, I was respectful, and I asked him for the federal government\u2019s help. And if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn\u2019t do anything differently.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Wait a minute. Now, I\u2019m under a different impression. I have always believed that Bloomberg and Cuomo said no to Obama, that Obama did offer to come in. I can\u2019t believe that he didn\u2019t. It was a campaign. It\u2019s right before the 2012 election. I would think Obama\u2019d want to be in every damaged area that he could be. But Governor Christie said that Obama only called him. Didn\u2019t call Bloomberg and didn\u2019t call Cuomo. But you hear in the answer, “He asked to come, my job was to make sure that when he came, that I was courteous, I was respectful, and I asked him for the federal government\u2019s help.” I mean, it\u2019s right in line about what he said yesterday in his announcement<\/a>, that we\u2019ve gotta show we can work together and that we have to cooperate, bipartisanship. <\/p>\n

<\/a>Look, say what you want, Chris Christie is using the Republican Party establishment manual on how to be elected president. There obviously is a blueprint for this from the Republican establishment, and it has as one of its requirements, you must talk about bipartisanship, you must talk about cooperation, you must pledge that you will work with the Democrats, you must pledge that you want to work with Democrats, that you want Washington to work, and that you\u2019re the guy who can make it happen. <\/p>\n

And there\u2019s a bunch of Republicans that subscribe to that theory. They\u2019ve all lost. But clearly Governor Christie believes in the blueprint. That\u2019s exactly my point, Republicans in the Northeast, that\u2019s what you have to do because most of the people that live there are Democrats. You can\u2019t win with just Republican votes in the Northeast. You have to get some Democrat votes, they say, yeah, so the way you get the Democrat votes is to say you want to work with these Democrats, cooperate with them.<\/p>\n

I think there\u2019s more to it than that, though. I think specifically saying that is practically an admission on the part of the candidate that he believes all these assaults the media makes on Republicans, that they\u2019re intransigent, uncooperative, and all of that. And also that\u2019s what the American people want. I don\u2019t know. We\u2019ll just have to wait and see. The next question Hannity said, “Well, what do you say to people that maybe still think that the way you behaved with Obama six days before the election hurt Romney\u2019s campaign?”<\/p>\n

CHRISTIE: None of the polling information that\u2019s come out afterwards indicated that at all. Secondly, talk to Mitt Romney. Because Mitt Romney will tell you it didn\u2019t hurt him. He said the storm hurt him. I didn\u2019t hurt him. Let me say one last thing. You know, if people in this country want someone who is gonna play politics 24 hours a day, seven days a week, don\u2019t vote for me. What I\u2019m gonna do is do the job that people elected me to do. That\u2019s what I\u2019ll always do, and I\u2019ll do it unapologetically.<\/p>\n

RUSH: There you have it. Okay. So people elected me to do this, I\u2019m gonna go do it. I\u2019m not gonna play politics 24\/7. You see, what does playing politics 24\/7 mean, as he said it there? What does that mean? Seriously now. Tell me what you think playing politics 24\/7 — translate that for me. (interruption) Hm-hm. No. Playing politics 24\/7, that\u2019s not what he means. No. Let me read it to you again. He said, “Let me say one last thing. You know, if people in this country want somebody that\u2019s gonna play politics 24\/7, don\u2019t vote for me. What I\u2019m gonna do is the job people elected me to do. That\u2019s what I\u2019ll always do, and I\u2019ll do it unapologetically.” <\/p>\n

Okay, so what is he saying that he\u2019s not gonna do when he\u2019s not gonna play politics 24\/7? Exactly right. Exactly right. He is not going to be a partisan. He is not going to argue about or with Democrats. He is not going to rip and criticize Democrats. That\u2019s politics and he\u2019s not going to do that. He\u2019s going to do his job. Very good, Mr. Snerdley. You\u2019re on top of your game today. I must really applaud you. I thought that I might need to take five or six minutes to get a wild guess answer. (laughing) No, the Democrats never stop playing. Politics is their life. Politics is their lifeblood. Everything is contentious with them. Everything is political. That\u2019s the point. <\/p>\n

That\u2019s the point I\u2019ve been trying to drill into people for I don\u2019t know how long. Everything the Democrats do, even funerals, is political. Everything. There isn\u2019t a thing that happens that they don\u2019t try to convert it into something they can advance their agenda with. Everything. Crisis, disaster, you name it, and the bigger, the better. And that\u2019s what Governor Christie says he\u2019s not gonna do. He\u2019s not gonna play politics. So let\u2019s see. Christie, last night he was on Hannity, that was on the Today show with Matt Lauer today, and this is a setup. I predicted this was gonna happen. We have the first setup here from Matt Lauer interviewing Christie during a discussion about Christie running. Before they start talking to Christie, this is what Matt Lauer said.<\/p>\n

LAUER: When this country elected Barack Obama as president six years ago, history was made. He became the first African-American president in US history, and yet if you look at this country today, you could argue that it is as racially divided and racially tense as it has been in decades. So if Barack Obama couldn\u2019t help bridge the racial divide, how can president Chris Christie?<\/p>\n

RUSH: It took them seven years to figure this out. Do you realize what an admission that is? It took Matt Lauer seven years to realize that the election of the first African-American president has made race relations worse. He said it. Right here he said it. He became the first African-American president US history, and if you look at this country today, you could argue that it\u2019s as racially divided and tense as it has been in decades. I think so. It\u2019s angrier, more miserable, unhappy. But, see, Governor Christie, he yesterday said (paraphrasing), “No, no, there\u2019s no anger out there. I travel the fruited plain. I travel the country. I don\u2019t see the American people angry. I see anxiety.” Well, here\u2019s how Governor Christie answered the question. The question was, “So if an African-American can\u2019t help bridge the racial divide, how can you?”<\/line><\/p>\n

CHRISTIE: I\u2019ve learned here in my state which is the most ethnically diverse state in the country, that the first way to do it is to show up in all those places and listen. So, for instance, when the tragedy happened Charleston, African-American ministers in my state called and said they wanted to have a prayer service, and I went on Father\u2019s Day and sat with African-American ministers, members of their congregation and spoke very clearly about racism, that racism is the cause of what happened in Charleston.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay. So that\u2019s what Governor Christie… (interruption) Why are you smiling at me? Come on. Why are you in there laughing at me? Tell me. Say it. Say it. Why are you laughing? (interruption) You don\u2019t have the gonads to tell me what you\u2019re laughing about? I know what you\u2019re laughing at. You think this is silly. Were you able to understand that? There\u2019s a lot of background noise. Let me read the transcript for those of you who may not have been able to hear exactly what he said. <\/p>\n

We\u2019d be hitting the edit button I can\u2019t tell you how often. Hee-hee. Ha-ha-ha-ha. “See, I would bridge the racial divide this way!<\/p>\n

“I have black friends, and I would sit with them on Father\u2019s Day. That\u2019s how I would do it.” That\u2019s not what he said. You think that\u2019s what he said? That\u2019s not what he said. (laughing) He was not saying, “I\u2019ve got black friends and they called me on Father\u2019s Day and I said I\u2019d meet them.” That\u2019s not… (interruption) That\u2019s not what he said.
