RUSH: Now, moving on to other things. Obama, as you know, has yet to reach out to the family of Kathryn or Katie Steinle in San Francisco, and I answered e-mails. People were sending me e-mails, “Rush, why is this? I mean, why is Obama, he reaches out to the family of Trayvon Martin. He reached out to the people in Charleston, South Carolina. I mean, he called everyone. Why is it?” I said, “The answer is very simple. If Obama cannot make it about him in a favorable way, he\u2019s not gonna involve himself.” <\/p>\n

Well, there\u2019s no way to involve himself in the sanctuary city debate of San Francisco that resulted in an illegal committing murder. There\u2019s no way he can involve himself in that and come out a winner. So he stays away from it. It\u2019s pure and simple. Now, people need to understand: <\/line>Obama\u2019s an egotist. This Iran deal\u2019s about Obama. This Iran deal\u2019s about Obama\u2019s legacy. This Iran deal\u2019s about a second Nobel Peace Prize, maybe. But he\u2019s already got one of those. This is really about the legacy. This is all about, years from now, people talking about Barack Obama as the only human being who ever, what? Got a deal with Iran on nukes, who ever finally secured health care for all Americans. <\/line><\/p>\n

It\u2019s all about legacy. It\u2019s all about ego. That\u2019s why Obama doesn\u2019t care about the details of any of it. He doesn\u2019t that Obamacare is an abomination and doesn\u2019t work. That doesn\u2019t matter. He knows that his side is gonna write the history, and the history is gonna be he\u2019s the guy who overcame decades of Republican opposition and secured affordable health care for all Americans, and that\u2019s the historical note. They\u2019re not gonna talk in history about his broken promises on keeping your doctor and keeping your plan and your premium coming down $2,500. <\/p>\n

They\u2019re not gonna make mention of those lies in the history of this, at least not the immediate history. When it comes to the Iranian nuke deal, they\u2019re not gonna say that Obama sold out the United States of America. They\u2019re not gonna say that Obama single-handedly secured Iran as a world superpower with nuclear weapons. They\u2019re gonna report that Barack Obama was the first president and the only president in the history of the United States of America to get a deal where Iran promised not to develop nuclear weapons. <\/p>\n

How do I know that? Because that\u2019s what they\u2019re saying now. That is the narrative in the Drive-By Media now. That is what the administration is saying, so it\u2019s what the media\u2019s parroting. That\u2019s the legacy. Obama saved the world from Iran nukes. That\u2019s what he wants. He doesn\u2019t care that Iran\u2019s gonna get nukes down the road. Whatever it took to get the deal. The deal is what matters. <\/p>\n

<\/a>It\u2019s the same thing with any of these other massive assaults on America\u2019s economy, or on our private sector or what have you. Immigration. Barack Obama, the first president to come along and unite people from all hemispheres and to expand the glorious melting pot that is the United States, Barack Obama, the first and only president to end bigotry and discrimination. Barack Obama, who persuaded a nation to unite around love and devotion in the issue of gay marriage. This is what he wants. Obama knows that there are, whatever, however many presidents there are preceding him, 40, I forget the exact number, but as far as the historical legacy is concerned, he wants it written about all of these things that he was the only, he was the first, to get anything done. <\/p>\n

And, by the way, that\u2019s why he admires Reagan and that\u2019s why he often talks about Reagan. He views Reagan as a transformative president in that regard. What\u2019s Reagan\u2019s historical legacy? He beat Soviet communism, except in Reagan\u2019s case it happens to be true. The Berlin Wall came down. “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.” Mr. Reagan stood up to Soviet Union communism, and it\u2019s gone. Obama is jealous of that. That\u2019s the kind of stuff he wants. So he equates himself with Reagan. He\u2019s even doing it now. We got an audio sound bite coming up where he equates himself with Ronaldus Magnus. The details of these things are irrelevant. <\/line><\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: I just heard… I can\u2019t hear it myself. Maybe Cookie\u2019s rolling on this, but I got somebody who just told me Obama\u2019s doing his White House…<\/p>\n

Well, it\u2019s not a press conference. It\u2019s a victory lap. It\u2019s a press conference, but it\u2019s a victory lap on the Iran deal, and I have just been told that Obama just said there are very good reasons why Israelis are nervous. (interruption) He did say that, “The Israelis have legitimate concerns”? (interruption) You mean…? (interruption) You mean somebody put that on the teleprompter? (interruption) He actually admits that the Israelis are nervous and they have legitimate concerns? (interruption) Well, I know he blows it away, but he said it? Well, hell\u2019s bells, then, folks! <\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Here\u2019s the audio sound bite. This is Obama expressing the fact that Israel has “legitimate concerns.” This is the whole comment, and it\u2019s in context, and it is… Well, it\u2019s less earth-shattering to me than when I first heard about it. But, of course, the key here… (laughing) This is mind-boggling. The key here is the last line of this. It\u2019s 44 seconds, so you\u2019ll have to listen for 42 seconds to get to what this is really all about.<\/p>\n

OBAMA: Israel has legitimate concerns about its security relative to Iran. You have a large country with a significant military that has proclaimed that Israel shouldn\u2019t exist, that has denied the Holocaust, that has financed Hezbollah, and as a consequence there are missiles that are pointed toward Tel Aviv. And so I think there are very good reasons why Israelis are nervous about Iran\u2019s —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Stop the tape! Stop the tape. See, there? I was led to believe that Obama was admitting the deal made them nervous. He\u2019s not saying that the deal with Iran that he\u2019s made here gives Israel “legitimate concerns.” What he\u2019s saying is… You\u2019ll hear as we resume this in a minute. He\u2019s saying that Israel\u2019s concerns are legitimate right now because of Iran. But as you will hear, he\u2019s fixing that.<\/p>\n

OBAMA: — position in the world generally. And I\u2019ve said this to Prime Minister Netanyahu; I\u2019ve said it directly to the Israeli people. But what I\u2019ve also said is that all those threats are compounded if Iran gets a nuclear weapon.<\/p>\n

RUSH: “And they\u2019re not gonna get a nuclear weapon because I just struck a deal with them where they\u2019re promising not to do nuclear bombs.” He didn\u2019t say that, but other people have said it. The Regime\u2019s whole point here is, “We have a deal with Iran where they\u2019re not gonna get nukes. So, yeah, Israel\u2019s got legitimate concerns, but it\u2019d be even worse if they were gonna get a nuke. But they\u2019re not gonna get a nuke because of me, Barack Hussein Obama!” Now, the AP has already filed the first dispatch of the Obama victory lap here.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the first big take-away from the AP: “President Barack Obama Says Iran Accord Is Only Option to Avert Mideast Nuclear Race,” which is preposterous. Not only is it preposterous, it\u2019s insulting! This has started a Middle East nuclear race. Can you guess what the first alliance to be made as a result of this deal is? The Israelis and the Sa-oo-di Arabians! I know it\u2019s “Sow-dee.” I pronounce it like some in the region. The Saudis and Israelis, Israel and Saudi Arabia. It\u2019s not a formal accord, but, believe me, Israel is not the only nation in the Middle East that doesn\u2019t like Iran. <\/p>\n

The Saudis hate \u2019em, and the Saudis are worried the Iranians have designs on their oil fields and their refineries. Do you know Iran does not have a refinery in the whole country? They\u2019re one of the biggest oil producers in the world and they have to export their crude and have it refined and brought back for gasoline for the mullahs? Do the mullahs use gasoline, or do they still ride camels? (interruption) Well, I know, but they\u2019re big believers in the seventh century, so I… (interruption) I know. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s a bit of a facetious question. Saudi Arabia and Egypt and other Sunni Arab countries in the region are going to demand that they be allowed to pursue nuclear weapons, too, because Iran is not a good guy. You see, that\u2019s what\u2019s missing in all this. This really isn\u2019t complicated. The problem with Obama is he\u2019s treating the Iranians as good guys. There\u2019s no concept that we\u2019re the good guys and Iran\u2019s our enemy. Why do the rest of these nations in the world want to nuke up after Iran has been granted permission to?<\/p>\n

You think this deal prevents Iran from getting a nuclear weapon? Then why the hell the Saudi Arabians in the market now and why are the Egyptians in the market? Why is every other Middle Eastern Sunni Arab nation in the market for nukes now? Why would they be if the deal prevents the Iranians from going nuclear? The degree of frustration, you cannot imagine. Except those of you who think like I do, you know it. You can imagine it, but you… It\u2019s just the whole “I hope he fails” thing, honestly.<\/p>\n

When that blew up, when that caught fire… I mean, I expected it to catch fire on the left, just because it was me saying it. But when I saw all these linguini-spined Republicans saying, “We need to be very careful about the language we use”? Remember, whatever Obama was doing. Whoever he nominated, whatever he said, the linguini-spined on our side were going racing to each other to be the first at the microphone to praise what Obama was doing, so that nobody would think they were racists. <\/line><\/p>\n

But I\u2019m gonna tell you again, \u2019cause even Snerdley didn\u2019t believe me an hour ago when I made this assertion. We had a caller who said, “I thought you were a little overboard, Rush, when you said, ‘I hope he fails.\u2019 But now I know exactly what you meant and I think, Rush, if you were to go out and say today, ‘I wish he had failed,\u2019 you\u2019d have so many people agreeing with you now.” I said, “I\u2019m not sure.” But this guy said to me, “I think, Rush, even you underestimated Obama.” I didn\u2019t, folks. And I\u2019m not just saying this to say it.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no reason make this kind of stuff up. I\u2019m not surprised by any of this. I am disappointed like you can\u2019t believe on so many levels, I\u2019m saddened on so many levels, but I\u2019m not shocked over what Obama\u2019s done. I am dismayed with the ease that he\u2019s had in doing it. I am dismayed by how many people didn\u2019t see it. It is why I have — and you who are regular listeners know. It\u2019s why I\u2019ve been whining, I\u2019ve been complaining about the fact that not enough people see things ideologically in terms of being able to foretell what Obama was gonna do.<\/p>\n

Not specifically, but we knew health care, folks. We played the sound bites of Obama promising union buddies of his what he was gonna do with national health care. It was not hard to find out. All you had to do was believe that he meant it. We played those sound bites on this program. We played all kinds of sound bites from Obama in the early 2000s. And if you combine them with what is already known about radical leftists, they\u2019re all over the world, you see what they do everywhere, none of it was surprising to me. <\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t underestimate any of it. If I underestimated anything, I underestimated the number of Americans who would oppose it. I underestimated the number of Americans who wouldn\u2019t care. I underestimated the number of Americans who didn\u2019t even see it, and that\u2019s what was disappointing. And some days it was crushing because it was on is obvious. It\u2019s not because I have any particular talents and insight. It\u2019s not because I\u2019m smarter than anybody else. I just know who liberals are. I know what they do. <\/p>\n

I know what their grand designs are. <\/p>\n

How many times you have to hear Obama apologizing for the country to put together what he\u2019s all about? How many times do you hear it? The stimulus, the whole thing. I mean, from the get-go it was clear. Close Guantanamo Bay? The whole Democrat Party argument even before Obama get here about Iraq? What the Democrat Party was trying to do to this country and George Bush and Iraq and so forth even before Obama was elected? None of it was hard to see. <\/p>\n

Some people didn\u2019t, or didn\u2019t want to. Now, again I\u2019m not claiming that I was able to make predictions on specificity. I\u2019m just telling you that I didn\u2019t underestimate Obama at all. You know, when he starts making a deal with Iran on nuclear weapons, I know what\u2019s going on hereabouts. Legacy. But I also know rooted in it that he doesn\u2019t think Iran\u2019s the bad guys. If anybody is, we are. If there\u2019s a nation on the face of the earth that owes the world an apology, according to him, it\u2019s us.<\/p>\n

From the days of our founding forward we have been an immoral, unjust, unfair nation exacerbated by the eight years of Reagan. The eight years of Reagan (he said this) made it even worse. He openly spoke of his disgust for Reagan and his desire to reverse Reaganism. He said it all. I mean, none of it was hidden. There is no hidden agenda. He just didn\u2019t announce it on the campaign trail. But all these places he did say it, we had the audio. We aired the audio all over the place. Jeremiah Wright?<\/p>\n

What do you not know from Jeremiah Wright? <\/p>\n

What do you have to overlook? <\/p>\n

What do you have to pretend you didn\u2019t hear in order to ignore his relationship with Jeremiah Wright and who Jeremiah Wright is? But in this Iran deal, the fact that they\u2019re not the bad guys is what\u2019s driving this. And by the way, grab audio sound bite number one. This is the kind of stuff that disappoints me, because Obama\u2019s a known quantity. I mean, I know where Obama\u2019s going, I know what he\u2019s gonna do, I know what he believes, I know what he\u2019s gonna try to accomplish. What\u2019s crushing, what\u2019s disappointing, depressing, maddening, frustrating is when you learn how many doofuses in this country buy it. That\u2019s the frustrating thing. <\/line><\/p>\n

So here we have a sound bite. This is last night on Eyeball 8 News in Washington, a program called the Capitol Insider. And the host of the program — not gonna mention his name because it\u2019s not about ripping the host by name. It\u2019s just this guy\u2019s typical. What you\u2019re gonna hear this guy say is SOP, standard operating procedure, and it describes the way Obama views the world to a T. They\u2019re talking about the Iran deal and me. And here\u2019s the bite.<\/p>\n

MORRIS JONES: I was listening to Rush Limbaugh. They were saying, “Oh, but you know we don\u00c2\u2019t have instant access. If we say we want to have a surprise inspection, they won\u2019t do it.” True, but then we wouldn\u2019t want that imposed upon us, neither would our friends in the UK. So this instant access to nuclear weapon sites, I can understand that. Because if somebody says, “Hey, we want to see your site in ten minutes,” I don\u2019t think we\u2019d go for that either.<\/p>\n

RUSH: So, you see, there\u2019s no concept of good guys or bad guys. There\u2019s no concept of we hold the cards. There\u2019s no concept of we are the world\u2019s superpower, and here comes a rogue state, sponsor of terrorism worldwide, they want nukes; and to this guy, and to Obama, well, who are we to say they don\u2019t get \u2019em? We wouldn\u2019t want this kind of treatment. If somebody said they want to inspect our nuclear program, we\u2019re gonna tell to go pound sand, right? Well, why can\u2019t they tell us to go pound sand. <\/p>\n

Except they\u2019re going through us for permission. They are willingly participating in negotiations to be granted permission to do a nuclear program. We had that power, or we did. But where does that power come from? These people on the left do not even think that\u2019s legit. The idea that the United States is the leader of the free world, now, who says? What gives us the presumptive right to assume that role? Why do we think we\u2019re any better than anybody else? And it isn\u2019t about being better than anybody else. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s about being the lone outpost of freedom, codified in founding documents and governing documents of the country. We are the place in the world that was established where human beings are free from the moment they\u2019re born to the day they die. We are the nation that stands for that, guarantees that, ensures that for our people. In the process, whenever we find other people around the world who are having their freedom denied, we defend their freedom, too. It\u2019s part of defending our own. <\/p>\n

We build up allies around the world who have our values and believe as we do about the nature of humanity and freedom. We form alliances with them. We have enemies who do not agree that this is how you should treat people that live in your country. The Iranians do not believe in freedom the way we do. The Iranians believe in terrorism, they believe in Sharia law, but the last thing they believe in is the same kind of constitutional republican freedom we have in the United States of America. <\/p>\n

We are the good guys, but not to this guy and not to Obama. We don\u2019t have the right. It\u2019s not a question of having the right. We have a responsibility. Our government, whoever runs it, has a responsibility to the American people to ensure our freedom, our safety, our defense. They swear an oath to do this. They do not swear an oath to cut this country down to size. They do not swear an oath to remake this country in their own image. They swear an oath to defend and protect the Constitution, rather than shred it. They take an oath to defend and protect the freedom of the United States of America and people around the world who are our allies. Because if we won\u2019t defend our own freedom then nobody in the world is gonna have any at some point. <\/p>\n

If we are not seen as the good guys in a sense of responsibility, not size — this is where this whole argument of American exceptionalism has been bastardized. People like this guy on TV in Washington think American exceptionalism is us saying we are better people. And it\u2019s not. American exceptionalism is the root of the word. We are the exception to the way most people in the world have had to live since the beginning of time, under tyranny, bondage, and what have you. We are the lone exception. It\u2019s why everybody on earth wants to come to this country, even today. <\/p>\n

We are the good guys, but we\u2019re not being governed by people who see this country as the good guys. We\u2019re being governed by people that see it exactly like this guy does. “Well, I mean, we wouldn\u2019t want an on-spot, instant inspection of anything we\u2019re doing.” The history of the US nuclear program dates back to World War II, and, as usual, the Germans were on a rapid pace with heavy water and all kinds of experimentation to get to nuclear first. And we got their scientists. You know, we did create this whole nuclear — the Manhattan Project was secret and private because of the power, but we did so with the idea we\u2019re the good guys. <\/p>\n

See, that\u2019s what\u2019s missing, it\u2019s what\u2019s lost, it\u2019s not even contemplated. We\u2019re now no different than the rogue state that\u2019s the state sponsor of terrorism. We\u2019re on the same moral plane as far as people like this guy on TV and Washington and Obama and the Democrat Party today are concerned.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: I\u2019m gonna tell you something, folks, it\u2019s even worse. Obama is loving this Iran stuff. I\u2019ve been catching a little bit of this press conference. He is eating this stuff up. He\u2019s talking about how he loves this Iran debate. He\u2019s getting so worked up here, he\u2019s even started to ask himself his own questions when he doesn\u2019t get the questions he wants from the press, which I understand, by the way. I do that, too, \u2019cause they never do ask me what I want to talk about. <\/p>\n

But, wait \u2019til you hear the sound bite coming up. This guy\u2019s defending Iran! He\u2019s defending Iran today in all of this. I\u2019ve not seen him ever defend America like he\u2019s defending Iran in these questions and answers today. <\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: So Major Garrett at the victory lap for Obama on Iran today says, “There are four Americans in Iran, three of them held on trumped-up charges, according to your administration, and one with whereabouts unknown. Can you tell the country, sir, why you are content with all the fanfare around this deal to leave the conscience of this nation, the strength of this nation unaccounted for in relation to these four Americans?”<\/p>\n

OBAMA: I gotta give you credit, Major, for how you craft those questions. The notion that I am content as I celebrate with American citizens languishing in Iranian jails? Major, that\u2019s nonsense, and you should know better. I\u2019ve met with the families of some of those folks. Nobody\u2019s content, and our diplomats and our teams are working diligently to try to get them out. Now, if the question is why we did not tie the negotiations to their release, think about the logic that that creates. Suddenly Iran realizes, you know what, maybe we can get additional concessions out of the Americans, by holding these individuals.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, what do you mean, get additional concessions? I didn\u2019t think there were any concessions. You know, if you ask me, just on a couple of little sound bites we played today, it sounds like Obama stepped in it a couple times here today and may not know it. And of course he can only be accused of “stepped in it” if people listening to it get that. And the media won\u2019t. <\/p>\n

“Suddenly Iran realized, you know what, maybe we get more concessions out of the Americans by holding these –” More concessions? Is that not a tantamount admission that they\u2019ve gotten concessions? We should have been getting the concessions. They are the ones who can\u2019t get nuclear with us in the way. We are the ones who can stop them from going there. <\/p>\n

We granted them concessions? And, by the way, has anybody heard of Bowe Bergdahl? Here Obama gets angry, he lectures Major Garrett, says it\u2019s a bad idea to let Iran think they can get concessions for hostages. Well, what about Bowe Bergdahl? We gave up five or six bad guys in exchange for one of our deserters? And speaking of which, bad idea to let Iran think they can get concessions — there\u2019s one other point here that was on the tip of my tongue that\u2019s a good point, too, about this, that\u2019s hypocrisy. Something like Guantanamo Bay. It was on the tip of my tongue. <\/line><\/p>\n

But, I mean, this guy\u2019s stepping in it here. Suddenly Iran realizes maybe we get additional concessions out of the Americans by holding these — oh, I know what it was. Didn\u2019t Obama just change the negotiations? Parents, families can now pay ransom to kidnappers, like ISIS? What the hell is that gonna do but cause more kidnapping? You can say good-bye to “we don\u2019t negotiate with terrorists.” <\/p>\n

Now, let me move on to Kerry because I have been intent on sharing this with you. What do you think the purpose of the Iran nuclear program was, or what\u2019s the purpose of the Iran deal? Just off the top of your head, what do you think the purpose of it is? Is it to deny Iran nuclear weapons? Is it to limit their ability to get them in a certain period of time? Is it to make sure that we can monitor everything they do from day to day so that they don\u2019t get away with secretly creating something that can annihilate the world? What is the deal? Does anybody know? <\/p>\n

Well, I want you to listen to John Kerry, by the way, served in Vietnam, what he says about this. Quote: ” Most importantly this agreement addresses Iran\u2019s potential pathways to fissile material for a bomb exactly as we said it would, with appropriate limitations and transparency in order to assure the world of the peaceful nature of Iran\u2019s nuclear program, let me explain exactly how it will accomplish that goal.”<\/p>\n

So from the secretary of state we have just been told that the purpose here of doing a deal with the Iranians on nuclear weapons is to assure the world of the peaceful nature of Iran\u2019s nuclear program. <\/p>\n

John Kerry and Barack Obama have thus decided that Iran\u2019s quest is peaceful, and so we needed a deal with them to assure the world that Iran\u2019s quest is peaceful and that the nature of their program will be peaceful, and then Kerry went on to say, “I want to explain to you exactly how our deal with Iran will accomplish that goal.” And he says, “To start, the participants have agreed Iran will not produce or acquire either highly enriched uranium or weapons-grade plutonium for at least the next 15 years.” <\/p>\n

See, now, I was thinking all along that the purpose of striking a deal with Iran was to keep an untrustworthy terrorist nation in check. I thought the whole purpose here was to make sure that Iran couldn\u2019t nuke up and use nuclear weapons in their terrorism, because we\u2019ve not done a thing to prevent them from being terrorist sponsors. We haven\u2019t. There\u2019s nothing about that in this deal. So I thought we were… You know, as the good guys, we\u2019re gonna be inspecting and riding herd.<\/p>\n

Now, we already learned yesterday that there are no “anytime, anywhere” inspections, verifications. It\u2019s a 24-day process. It\u2019s a bogus. The whole thing is a disaster. This statement from John Kerry sounds like the brain-dead utterance of a zombie on The Walking Dead — or worse than that, it sounds like a hostage video. For crying out loud, “The purpose of the deal is to assure the world of the peaceful nature of Iran\u2019s nuclear program, and let me show you exactly how this deal will accomplish that goal.” <\/p>\n

I tell you, folks, we\u2019re being governed by fools, and worse. From the Washington Free Beacon. Headline: “US Will Teach Iran How to Thwart Nuclear Threats — The United States and other world powers will help to teach Iran how to thwart and detect threats to its nuclear program, according to the parameters of a deal reached Tuesday to rein in Iran\u2019s contested nuclear program.” In other words, we are going to teach Iran how to thwart nuclear attacks, how to protect themselves.<\/p>\n

Say, from Israel, for example, or the Saudis. <\/line><\/p>\n

Or from us, yes. <\/p>\n

“Under the terms of a deal that provides Iran billions of dollars in sanctions relief, Iran and global powers will cooperate to help teach Iran how to manage its nuclear infrastructure, which will largely remain intact under the deal. … In what is being viewed as a new development, European countries and potentially the United States agreed to ‘cooperate with Iran on the implementation of nuclear security guidelines and best practices,\u2019 according to a copy of the agreement furnished by both the Russians and Iranians,” and it\u2019s also in the English version. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s in there. <\/p>\n

We\u2019re gonna teach the Iranians how to stop anybody from sabotaging them. <\/p>\n
