RUSH: To the audio sound bites first quickly. I want to remind you just to hear it from my own lips: last Monday on this program<\/a>.<\/p>\n

RUSH ARCHIVE: The polling data on this is gonna be fascinating in a week or two, or less, maybe. Because, remember: The real key to this is this automatic assumption that everybody\u2019s outraged, that everybody wants Trump gone, that everybody finds this objectionable, everybody think it\u2019s over the top, everybody thinks Trump has gone too far. And that assumption is always erroneous, I think. But nobody stops to think about it.<\/p>\n

<\/a>RUSH: That was last Monday. I was warning everybody that Trump\u2019s not playing by the rules, and it really is an important point. I know I\u2019ve made this over and over again, but it\u2019s required, particularly to make impressions on low-information voters. The fact is when the media, Washington establishment, whoever, starts acting outraged over something a public figure said… They\u2019re doing it now with Huckabee, by the way, over what he said about the Iran deal and Israel and ovens, which is coming up. <\/p>\n

The conventional wisdom is that not only are the media who are reporting this to you outraged, but so are the American people en masse, that there is universal outrage — disbelief, shock and dismay — that anybody could say anything so horrible. It\u2019s always implied that a majority of the American people also find it outrageous, and I have always doubted that. I\u2019ve resented in fact that assumption, that the whole of the country also is either outraged or in support of whatever the media seems to be blowing a gasket over. <\/p>\n

I said, “Let\u2019s just wait, \u2019cause Trump is not playing along. He\u2019s doubling down. He\u2019s not following the script, he doubled down on his criticism of McCain and even went further.” I said, “Let\u2019s just see if this in fact kills him in polling data,” and it didn\u2019t. Jeff Lord, American Spectator, back on CNN today. You know, I told Jeff I said, “You know, you\u2019re gonna have to stop talking about me or they\u2019re gonna start canceling you. They\u2019re gonna stop inviting you on.”<\/p>\n

He said, “Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah, don\u2019t sweat it. I mean, the truth is the truth.” So he was on with Chris Cuomo today. Cuomo says, “Inside those numbers, if you look at the slice of the GOP that really feels that Washington sucks, Donald Trump is there man. Now, do you use that as the takeovers from the poll? What does it mean for Trump going forward?”<\/p>\n

LORD: Bingo, Chris! You are exactly right. Last week I said I thought the big story was Rush Limbaugh talking about the McCain-Trump situation, and he said that he didn\u2019t think that that was gonna mean anything, that Trump would survive it in good form. Rush was right.<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: Now, moving on to Huckabee. Breitbart\u2019s got a radio show on Sirius XM, Breitbart News Saturday, Alexander Marlow was interviewing Huckabee, and Huckabee had this to say about Obama and the Iran nuclear agreement…<\/p>\n

HUCKABEE: This president\u2019s foreign policy is the most feckless in American history. He\u2019s so na\u00c3\u00afve, he would trust the Iranians and he would take the Israelis and basically march them to the door of the oven.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That was Saturday. That was Mike Huckabee, former and current Republican presidential… He is running for president, right? (interruption) Okay, so in criticizing the Iran deal — you heard him — Huckabee says that Obama\u2019s trusting the Iranians “and he would take the Israelis and basically march them to the door of the oven.” Clearly a Holocaust reference. Well, the predictable outrage lit up television all weekend and into this morning, and the Drive-Bys are debating, is this it for Huckabee? <\/p>\n

“Is he finished? Does he have to apologize? My God, he would have to apologize!” They went and got ADL people, they got JDL people. They got Anti-Defamation League, Jewish Defamation League, all kinds of people on CNN denouncing what Huckabee had to say. And on CNN, John King speaking with Nia Malika Henderson, who is one of their political correspondents with Huckabee, about Obama basically marching the Israelis “to the door of the oven,” and King and Henderson had this exchange.<\/p>\n

KING: He\u2019s standing by this. Most people including the American Defamation League (sic) are saying, “Whoa. Whoa, whoa, whoa.” And the old rule in politics is, y\u2019know, “Don\u2019t joke about Hitler. Don\u2019t draw comparisons to the Holocaust.”<\/p>\n

HENDERSON: This was despicable and terrible! He should apologize. He will not apologize. There is this Trump Effect I think that\u2019s going on with some of these candidates where they want to say things and then double down on them. When I heard it…<\/p>\n

KING: Mmpfh!<\/p>\n

HENDERSON: I mean, I had kind of a visceral reaction, because it brings up this imagery, uh, that we should only talk about the Holocaust (snicers) when we\u2019re talking about the Holocaust.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, so now the Huckster has to apologized. They\u2019re following the script except they\u2019re realizing now that he\u2019s not gonna follow the script; he\u2019s following the Trump script. The Drive-Bys find what he says very offensive, but then they say he has to apologize. Now they admit that Huckabee won\u2019t apologize \u2019cause he\u2019s gonna double down and follow what Trump did. He\u2019s gonna assume that a vast majority of the American people do not agree with Chris Cuomo, John King, whoever else on CNN. <\/line><\/p>\n

Obama went to Kenya, and before he got there, the Kenyan president said, “Would you leave all of your talk about homosexuality at home? We don\u2019t care. It\u2019s not a big issue. Don\u2019t come preach to us.” Obama went and preached to \u2019em about homosexuality in Kenya. But he went even farther than that. This morning in Addis Ababa, which is in Ethiopia, Obama and the Ethiopian prime minister held a joint press conference. There was a Q&A, and Obama starts launching into the Republican presidential candidates.<\/p>\n

OBAMA: In particular comments of Mr. Huckabee are, I think, part of just a general pattern that we\u2019ve seen that is — would be considered, duhhh, ridiculous if it weren\u2019t so sad. We\u2019ve had a sitting senator call John Kerry Pontius Pilate. We\u2019ve had a sitting <\/line>senator who also happens to be running for president suggest that I\u2019m the leading state sponsor of terrorism.<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: And then he started in on Trump. But who do you think in Obama\u2019s mind the real culprit in all of this is?<\/p>\n

OBAMA: When you look at what\u2019s happened with, uhh, Mr. Trump, when he, uhh, has made some of the remarks that, for example, challenge the heroism of Mr. McCain, the Republican Party is shocked. And yet that arises out of a culture where those kind of things outrageous attacks have become far too commonplace and get circulated nonstop through the Internet and talk radio.<\/p>\n

RUSH: There you have it! The ultimate blame is right here, because of what happens right here is why all these other Republicans are doing what they\u2019re doing. Yep! It\u2019s why sitting Republicans are calling Kerry Pontius Pilate. Talk radio is why Huckabee said what he said about Israelis and the ovens and the Iran deal. Talk radio is why a sitting senator said that Obama is a state sponsor of terrorism. Yep! There you have it. Talk radio and the Internet. <\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: New York. Dan, great to have you on the program. Hello, sir.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hey, good afternoon, Rush. Listen, I\u2019m a legislator up in New York area, and, you know, I\u2019ve listened to what Trump\u2019s doing right now, and I gotta say: Being in politics for about the past five years, there are a lot of politicians who hold back to what you really want to say this. We\u2019re passionate just like anybody else, and I see Trump out there, and it makes me want to do the same thing. So, maybe that\u2019s what\u2019s happening with Huckabee, and maybe Trump is gonna give the green light to everybody.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You know, I bet this is true. I bet there are a lot of people who want to do what Trump is doing, but why don\u2019t they?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, you know, I think it\u2019s just hard because you go out there, and sometimes you push the envelope and you get so much grief and crap back at you that it\u2019s almost harder to do your job.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, look, you\u2019re right. But there\u2019s a larger umbrella answer, under which a lot of sub-answers will fall, and it\u2019s this: They can\u2019t blackmail Trump, and they can\u2019t buy him. Therefore, they cannot intimidate him and bully him into silence, primarily because they can\u2019t buy him with donors\u2019 promises, what have you — and they can\u2019t blackmail him. Because if they could, they would be. So, therefore how they gonna shut this down, folks? This is the worst nightmare — what Trump is doing and saying and the result of it — the establishment could have ever had.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: We have Hillary here. She\u2019s weighing in on Huckabee. You know, Huckabee is saying the Iran deal is close to marching the Israelis to the doors of the ovens. And that comment has not gone over well, and a number of people in Washington are claiming that Huckabee had better apologize or quit. Huckabee is actually trying, I think, to repeat the Trump strategy, which is not double down on it, but not deny it and certainly not apologize for it. <\/p>\n

Hillary is in Des Moines. The Drive-Bys are all excited! Apparently she\u2019s doing a speech today, and you should see CNN. I mean, they\u2019re treating this like it\u2019s a once-in-a-lifetime eruption, and we have to stop everything we\u2019re Bloomberg to watch it, it is that kind of that big a deal. They ran up to her, campaign event, the Drive-Bys found Hillary, and they asked her what she thought of Huckabee saying that the Iran nuclear deal that Obama\u2019s basically marching the Israelis to the door of the ovens.<\/p>\n

HILLARY: (haltingly) Comments like these are offensive, and they have no place in our political dialogue. I\u2019m disappointed, and I\u2019m r-really offended personally. I know Governor Huckabee. I have a cordial relationship with him. He served as the governor of Arkansas. But I find this kind of inflammatory rhetoric totally unacceptable.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Why is she “personally offended”? Oh, well. (interrupted) No, no. I know why she would say she is “personally offended.” Look I\u2019m the mayor of Realville. She says she\u2019s “personal offended.” I know why she\u2019d say so. She\u2019s courting the Jewish vote but she can\u2019t be “personally offended.” She wasn\u2019t being talked about! What am I missing here? Anyway, same old same old. We\u2019ll see what happens with Huckabee, the Huckster, and others. <\/p>\n

Now, Trump. Trump once again is doing something that no Republican\u2019s doing, and that is getting on her case. There are these two inspectors general saying this they want an investigation of Hillary\u2019s e-mail, her server and all. By the way, I saw something. Forgive me, I didn\u2019t print it and note where I heard it, but I read that this thing didn\u2019t happen, that the inspectors general are denying it. <\/p>\n

Have you seen that anywhere? Don\u2019t bother looking for it. I don\u2019t find it in time for me to use. I wouldn\u2019t even know where to tell you to look. It was something… You know, I just omnivorously, voluminously absorb stuff, and it was in the show prep time Friday. I can\u2019t remember. It was somebody saying that this hasn\u2019t happened, that it\u2019s a totally may I proceed thing, but, anyway, Trump\u2019s hitting her on it, and outside of Carly Fiorina, he is the only one doing so.<\/p>\n

TRUMP: Honestly, it\u2019s step by step. I haven\u2019t focused on Hillary. The fact is that what she has done is criminal. I mean, what she has done is criminal. I don\u2019t see how she can run, because if the prosecutors — who were all Democrat, by the way. You know, and that\u2019s part of the problem with fairness here. They\u2019re all Democrat so they\u2019re protecting her. What she did is far worse than what General Petraeus did, and he\u2019s gone down in disgrace. I mean, you know, what he did is not as bad is as what Hillary Clinton did, and it\u2019s similar, but it\u2019s not as bad. I mean, she got rid of her server! He never did anything like that.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Now, what he\u2019s talking about is Petraeus had this affair going with the babe who was writing a book about him and he ended up giving her classified information about things, and it was discovered and they threatened Petraeus with all kinds of hellfire and damnation if he didn\u2019t go away and not promise not to run against Obama, whatever it was. That\u2019s what Trump\u2019s talking about. But then somebody in the Scott Walker campaign must have said something about Trump.<\/p>\n

Because now Trump is going after Scott Walker big time, talking about what a mess Wisconsin is. And I have to tell you, this is… You know, Walker\u2019s one of the stars of this Republican field, in my opinion. But Trump is demonstrating here that if you\u2019re gonna go after him, if you\u2019re even gonna offer a one word insult about him, he\u2019s gonna come back at you. He\u2019s not gonna let it go. This was during a campaign event in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on Saturday.<\/p>\n

TRUMP: He was up in my office four months ago, five months ago giving me an award. He gave me an award, and I like Scott Walker. He\u2019s a nice guy. But today one of his people hit me! And I said, “Why is he doing that? The person\u2019s a stupid person, but why is he doing that?” He hit me and I said, “Hey, now, the gloves are.”<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, that\u2019s what he said. “The gloves are off. Okay, if your guy\u2019s gonna hit me — he\u2019s a stupid person, but I don\u2019t care. If he\u2019s gonna hit me, then the gloves are off, Governor Walker, and I\u2019m coming right back at you.” This is kind of the way leftist bullies operate and always have, and they have succeeded in intimidating Republicans. Obama comes to mind. Here\u2019s the story. You found it at TIME Magazine. Well, that\u2019s not why I saw it. “Inspector general says Hillary Clinton e-mails…”<\/p>\n

No, no, this is not it. “Clinton and her current former aides have not been named as targets of the investigation. The scope of the investigation request has not been revealed.” That\u2019s not what I saw. This is. What I saw said there is no investigation, that the whole thing has been made up, that the inspectors general did not ask for an investigation. That\u2019s what I saw, and I only saw it one place. I don\u2019t read kook sites so it wasn\u2019t sophomore fringe place. I just don\u2019t remember what it was. <\/p>\n
