RUSH: We are starting with Mike in Norfolk, Virginia. Welcome, sir. Great to have you on the program.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hi, Rush. Thank you for taking my call.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yes, sir. You bet.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I wanted to talk with you just a second about why I like Donald Trump. And I think a lot of this is political — you know, the talk of all the political machinations that are going on are really missing the point.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Let me ask you a question first.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Just so people can have a baseline comparison. Are you conservative, moderate, Republican, independent? What are you?<\/p>\n


\nCALLER: I would say that as I grow older, for a while I thought I was conservative. But I\u2019m moving more and more towards Libertarian now. I find myself thinking more like a Libertarian —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Why?<\/p>\n

CALLER: — than anything else.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No wrong answer. Just curious. Why? Why are you relaxing your conservatism and moving to Libertarianism?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I wouldn\u2019t call it relaxing. I\u2019m just somebody who is a true believer in liberty. And, you know, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I think that\u2019s, you know, the heart of Libertarianism.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s fine. I just wanted to get some baseline for where your comments are coming so we can put it —<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right. I\u2019m a strict constitutionalist.<\/p>\n

RUSH: All right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: You know.<\/p>\n

\nRUSH: That would be called constructionist, but I know what you mean.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay. And this is my first time ever calling so I\u2019m —<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s all right. You like Trump. Tell us why you like Trump.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, what I\u2019m looking for is somebody who can get things done. I\u2019m looking for results. And Trump is the only candidate that has illustrated that he can get results. The guy went to Scotland, or Ireland, I can\u2019t remember which one it was, and saw this beautiful plot of land and said, “Hey, this would make a great place for a golf course,” except he had to spend years trying to convince environmentalists that he could build a golf course there without destroying the environment. He did it. He beat liberalism and built a moneymaking golf course in Scotland.<\/p>\n

He did the same thing in New York years ago with the Wollman Rink. He got tired of looking from his penthouse down at the Wollman Rink that was taking — it was going on six years of work, looked like complete trash down there. He wrote Ed Koch and said, “Hey, I\u2019ll fix the rink.” In six months I think it was he said he would do it, for X-amount of dollars. And Koch, because he just didn\u2019t like the guy, said, “No, sorry, not gonna deal with you.” And so the papers got a hold of it and then made Koch reverse his decision. And Trump finished that rink in less than six months and under budget.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I got all that. Now, so he built a golf course or two and he got the Wollman skating rink built when the bureaucracy of New York had it languishing as an eyesore?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes. And this is why he\u2019s convinced me that he can get things done if he goes to Washington. The guy figures out how to make things work. I mean, he\u2019s fought liberalism. I wouldn\u2019t say he personally is on a crusade to fight liberalism —<\/p>\n

RUSH: I don\u2019t know that that\u2019s what he\u2019s doing. Look, I\u2019m not trying to — I don\u2019t know that he\u2019s fighting liberalism. What he\u2019s doing is fighting people standing in his way, whoever they are. Don\u2019t misunderstand. If they are liberals standing in his way, he doesn\u2019t care, he\u2019ll still mow \u2019em down. But if the Libertarians get in his way about something, you can expect him to come at you. That\u2019s who he is. Whatever he wants now he\u2019s gonna get it done.<\/p>\n

\nYou know what one of the fears that I\u2019m seeing in the Drive-Bys, everybody\u2019s getting panicked now, \u2019cause I\u2019m telling you, up to now, the major parties and the establishment all thought that this was gonna be over by now. At some point they all trusted that everybody else would see Trump the way they do: a phony, a liar, unserious, self-promoting circus act that\u2019s only interested in his own aggrandizement. That hasn\u2019t happened. Now they\u2019re getting panicked. And the way they\u2019re going after Trump now — I\u2019ve seen just a few examples of it, and maybe you have too — now they\u2019re worried that Trump is actually not conservative, not liberal, he\u2019s nothing, except this: He\u2019s an authoritarian. He will do whatever he wants and however he wants it, if he wants it done. Eminent domain, if he wants your house to build a shopping center, then by golly, by gosh, he\u2019s gonna take it.<\/p>\n

And the establishment\u2019s expressing concern here that Trump\u2019s supporters may in fact be aware of this and may in fact be endorsing authoritarianism, which, they say, is in direct conflict with conservatism, which believes in small government, less intrusive. They\u2019re speculating, I wonder if these Trump voters actually know that they\u2019re actually thinking about supporting somebody that could end up being a dictator.
