BRETT: You know, Rush used Apple computers as long as I can remember. There was always one MacBook or another, one iMac or another on his broadcast desk. On the days that Apple released a software update, they did so just about this time in the 1 p.m. Eastern hour. That meant that Rush was both keeping us informed and entertained while also running software updates on his computers, his iPhones and his Apple Watch.<\/p>\n

Today would have been a perfect example. Apple\u2019s rumored to be releasing its iOS 14.5 upgrade. The biggest change in the iOS 14.5 is a new feature that allows you to unlock your iPhone with your Apple Watch when you\u2019re wearing a face mask. The other big upgrade? Well, it\u2019s going to require apps in the Apple store to require asking you for permission to track your activity across the internet.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s going to be a big problem for advertisers, when you\u2019re asked whether or not you want to be tracked or not, the majority of us say “no.” The whole privacy protection is new from Apple, who announced it back in January. So imagine Rush talking to you right now while updating any number of devices. This is what it sounded like just last July.<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"RUSH: By the way, I\u2019m running beta. For those of you who run public betas of Apple\u2019s new software updates — you know, every summer in June, Apple introduces, in beta, the new operating system that they release in September. And they also allow the public, anybody who wants to, to sign up on a website to test it.<\/p>\n

Well, they\u2019re releasing the first public beta today of iOS 14, and I wanted to break that news to you in case you happen to be one who has participated in the public beta program before or you\u2019ve thought about it, this is the day to sign up.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s an Apple website, beta in the name of it, that you use to sign up if you want to participate in the public data. And the public beta, it\u2019s stable enough. They\u2019ll tell you don\u2019t put it on your primary device yet, but I\u2019m running beta 2 for the developer side. And it\u2019s really, really stable.<\/p>\n
