<\/p>\nKEN: You know, immigration was long a topic of discussion throughout Rush\u2019s entire career, and his take on it, like so many things, was brilliant. In fact, Rush Limbaugh even came up with his own immigration bill. Take a listen.<\/p>\n
RUSH: What the Republicans need to be doing with immigration in my mind, just off the top of my head here? They need to fight for something they know they can\u2019t get simply because they don\u2019t have the numbers.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
They need to be fighting for something called the sovereignty of the United States border. It ought to have something in it like this. Again, I\u2019m just thinking of the moment, but I\u2019m not thinking about something passing. I\u2019m thinking about the Republicans needing something to be seen fighting for, even if they are gonna lose it — and it\u2019s something like this:<\/p>\n
“You know, we\u2019ve got ten to 12, 20, whatever it is, million immigrants in the country. We\u2019re not talking about deporting \u2019em. Nobody is. But we\u2019re gonna lock down this border, and we are going to reestablish this distinct American culture that immigrants in the past came to this country for.<\/p>\n
“We are going to do everything we can to require assimilation. You\u2019re gonna have to become American. If you cross that border legally, you\u2019re gonna have to be able to hum some bars of the Star-Spangled Banner. You\u2019re going to have to be able to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. You\u2019re gonna have to know your ZIP code.<\/p>\n
You\u2019re gonna have to be able to answer some questions about this nation\u2019s history. You\u2019re gonna have to know who George Washington is! You\u2019re gonna have to know what the Civil War was about. You know, basic, simple things that everybody in this country\u2019s taught in the first five years of school.<\/p>\n
“If you don\u2019t do any of these things, you do get sent back — and that border\u2019s gonna be tight, and you sneak across that border and get caught, you\u2019re sent home, and you have a red mark so you never get back. We are serious about the border, and we are serious about people who come here becoming Americans.<\/p>\n
“We want people to come here and become Americans. We want people to come here and assimilate. We want people to come here and build this into the greatest nation ever again.” You can construct an immigration bill that spells out your belief in this country, that requires people coming here reflect those beliefs and learn them. You may never get it passed, but it\u2019s something that you fight for.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s distinctive, and once again it draws a contrast between them and the Democrats who are simply looking for votes. Right now, that\u2019s what everybody thinks the Republicans are doing, is simply looking for votes. So right now, the cynics look at both parties as simply trolling for votes. “They don\u2019t really care about the people that get here.<\/p>\n
“It\u2019s just the Democrats are gonna be a little bit nicer because they are the welfare state guys.” Well, position this as something like: “We\u2019re looking for Americans; we\u2019re not looking for votes. We\u2019re looking to shore up and secure our border, and there are certain things that you gotta do once we let you across. If you get caught crossing illegally, you never get back in here.”<\/p>\n
That word gets spread all over the world, and we adhere to that with the ones that do get here that we allow in — that we permit in — under the policy that we come up with. Next, we\u2019ll deal with the assimilation of those who are here. Nobody\u2019s talking deportation, but the border has got to be secured and shut down. As I say, this is just the most general of approaches here. When I say, “You need to be able to hum a few bars of the National Anthem,”<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not being facetious. I\u2019m serious! I\u2019m using this as imagery. You\u2019ve gotta become an American when you come here! You\u2019ve gotta want to become an American. You gotta make a modicum of effort to become an American here. ‘Cause it\u2019s the greatest place on the planet, and we want to keep it that way! This is good for people who come here. It\u2019s not punishment for them to have to do this. It\u2019s what every immigrant in the past wanted when they came here.<\/p>\n
We simply reestablish that, and then we realize that immigration involves more than just people from the Southern Hemisphere. It involves people from Europe and Asia and everywhere. It\u2019s not oriented toward one group of people. You fight for it!<\/p>\n
You know you\u2019re gonna lose it with this current president and party, but you fight for it, and you give people a rallying cry. You define yourselves in the process, instead of simply running around and making it look like you also are trolling for votes, or that you want to be credited with compassion, and so forth.<\/p>\n
KEN: Isn\u2019t it amazing how history repeats itself, and this is what\u2019s so sad about the lack of real history instruction in American schools. Historical repeats itself. The patterns repeat itself. What the Congress is doing now… The current Congress, the cornerstone, sadly, has become corruption. So it\u2019s the same thing over and over again and over again and, “We\u2019re gonna have a billion-page bill.<\/p>\n
“We\u2019re gonna give you an hour to read it. If you don\u2019t sign it, we\u2019re gonna call you a racist; so you better sign it,” and then all the political buddies get paid off. We all scratch our heads. How many times has that happened? Hundreds of times, just like this immigration debate. If I hear one more Republican say, “Yeah, I\u2019m really strong on immigration,” and then what happens?<\/p>\n
Talk is cheap.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Thank you. I\u2019m a Hispanic, five years U.S. citizen. One of the things that infuriates me and sometimes logically I don\u2019t understand is why many of the Hispanics who live in the United States, who left our countries because they are corrupted, because the politicians promised the moon, the stars and all the planets and never come through. They do it every year and they take your money away. They put poor roads, no services, nothing works, right?<\/p>\n
RUSH: Right.<\/p>\n
CALLER: We already have been down that road, talking about generations, in all the Latin American countries. And we come here thinking, “This is the land where I can flourish. This is the land where my talents are going to be rewarded because I work hard and I have good ethics,” and we go and vote behind those same demagogues, populists and corrupt politicians like the current administration. So that is the piece that I get very… How can I say? Passionate. Mad. Disappointed. And everything in between. That we are still that gullible by our own wrong decisions, wrong judgments, right, and we have to bring all these Hispanic people around.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Wait, wait. Isabel, are you essentially saying that this country is becoming as corrupt or is on its way to becoming as corrupt as the countries you left and wanted to escape, is that what you\u2019re saying?<\/p>\n
CALLER: I\u2019m seeing it, and it\u2019s sad. I talk to my friends and my family here, and I say, “Do you see that it\u2019s exactly what happened 20 years ago in Venezuela? Do you see that it is what happened when the (unintelligible) in Colombia started? Do you see that is how the drug dealers in Latin America work, buying the government?”<\/p>\n
I just see that we are slowly but surely, the United States of America, a country where it used to be ruled by the law, now the law becomes a moving target and depends and covers whomever plays the game better. I\u2019m seeing it and it\u2019s so sad. The only difference between the American politicians and many of the Latin American politicians is that the ones here, they speak good English. That\u2019s it.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Well, yeah. There\u2019s no question that it\u2019s got to be frustrating to people like you. I mean, you have come here because you wanted to escape.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Yeah! I literally —<\/p>\n
RUSH: You wanted to escape a number of things — poverty, corruption, economic distress, any number of things — so you come here. This is the shining city on a hill. This is the place on earth everybody wants to come. Nobody wants to leave this country! Although that\u2019s not actually the case. More people are renouncing their citizenship today than ever before, but we\u2019ll leave that aside for the moment. This is the place that everybody wants to come. It\u2019s a sad reality, Isabel, that not everybody came here for the same reasons you did.<\/p>\n
Not everybody\u2019s coming here for the same reasons you did. Some are coming here because it\u2019s a giant hammock. There are as many reasons as there are people. But I can imagine the disappointment you faced. And a lot of us feel the same way when we see what\u2019s happening to the country. And the real thing about it that bothers so many of us… I don\u2019t know if this is affecting you, but so many of us look out over the landscape and don\u2019t see that many people that care about it. Anyway, I appreciate the call, Isabel. Thanks very much.<\/p>\n

KEN: Imagine the impact that call had on millions of Americans, especially younger people. Because that message that you just heard has been removed from the news media because the news media is dominated by the left, and one of the foundational principles of leftist thinking is, “America, it\u2019s just not that good. It\u2019s just not that impressive, and often it\u2019s the bad guy.<\/p>\n
“And everybody else is the good guy. And wealth, not good. Success, ah, not really that good, unless it\u2019s Jay-Z or Barack Obama, that success or Oprah or Hillary Clinton. That success is okay.” But you get the point. So many people come here for freedom, and because our schools don\u2019t teach real history, too many people don\u2019t know what real freedom is, and they certainly don\u2019t know what Nazism or fascism is.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s why they throw those names around like candy.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Rush, a pleasure and honor to speak with you. As an immigrant from Argentina, I got here when I was 20 years old and I got — I apologize for the way I\u2019m speaking. I\u2019m really nervous. I listened to you on the radio as soon as I got in Miami, and you say something really profound. You always have to involve yourself with smart people and try to learn what they do, and then you say — try to find something to make a living that you really love.<\/p>\n
And when I got in here from Argentina, I actually was running away from a guy like Obama. We got free medicine, free everything in Argentina, and I\u2019m here, and what I accomplished in this country, believe me, there is no way in the world that you can accomplish as much as you can in this country.<\/p>\n
RUSH: For a while, I know.<\/p>\n
CALLER: I was a line cook. Today I own my own company, and I have a — we share a love. I just become a private pilot, and I bought my own little plane. And, I mean, I\u2019m ecstatic. I\u2019m super happy. And last year I got my citizenship just to go vote Obama out.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, God bless you, Alejandro. And I\u2019m gonna tell you something — I\u2019ve got 30 seconds here. But I think you said something profound, and you went by it pretty quickly, and I want to go back to it. He said, people like him come to this country to run away from the Obamas of their country. So he came here, and he found what he was looking for, he became successful, was able to buy a little airplane, and now he feels like he\u2019s back home.<\/p>\n
He feels like whatever he was running away from caught up to him. We\u2019ve had people the Eastern bloc who\u2019ve called and said the same things over the years. Alejandro, I\u2019m honored you\u2019re in the audience. I\u2019m glad you got through. You know, if we\u2019re talking amnesty for 11 million Alejandros, it\u2019d be a whole different ball of wax, folks. This guy, Alejandro, people like him are the Democrats\u2019 worst nightmare.<\/p>\n
