\"Listen<\/a><\/p>\n

RUSH: It really is striking to see the massive, coordinated, almost panic-filled reaction to Ted Cruz suggesting that a program previously implemented be used again. Everybody involved in the program is denying it or acting like it was a big failure. “Don\u2019t associate us with it.” And what it was, it was discovered by the AP back on August 11, 2011. It\u2019s a 2011 report in August, and the AP found out that the CIA was assisting the NYPD in monitoring New York City Muslim neighborhoods. It was a program started under George W. Bush, continued under Obama.<\/p>\n

And since the CIA was involved, no wonder Obama wouldn\u2019t condemn Mayor Bloomberg at the time the program was underway. “Well, it didn\u2019t work! He had nothing to do with it.” But the degree of coordinated opposition at Ted Cruz today for simply reminding everybody what was previously done? It\u2019s stunning. And you listen to these Drive-By Media people interviewing Ted Cruz, folks? The hatred they have for him is palpable. You can practically touch the hatred as it comes out of their mouths when they question him, such as Norah O\u2019Donnell.<\/p>\n


\n“I have news for you…”<\/p>\n

Why do they hate Ted Cruz so much? Well, yeah, partly it\u2019s because he\u2019s conservative. But why hate that? It\u2019s more than that. It\u2019s threatening. And I am just gonna tell you: In the case of Ted Cruz, every damned one of these people knows full well that they\u2019re not in his league in terms of IQ, in terms of intelligence, in terms of talent and ability. They can\u2019t compete with him. So they ignore him. They pretend he\u2019s not there. When they do have him on to interview him, they usually resort to tactics of intimidation or putting him down or snark or some such thing to try to mask his intellectual superiority over them.<\/p>\n

They can\u2019t keep up. They despise him. He\u2019s a threat in that regard. You combine the kind of raw, native intelligence Cruz has with his heartfelt conservatism, and you have personified what the left fears the most. Therefore what they hate, what they despise. They know they\u2019ll never be able to corral Cruz. They\u2019ll never be able to control him. They will never be able to impugn him intellectually. So they go after him in other ways. They compare him to a preacher who doesn\u2019t give the money back. They compare him to somebody has no happiness.<\/p>\n

They do anything they can to deride and run down his personality or individual characteristic quirks or what have you. But they can\u2019t take him on on substance. But this? This is even crazier. This is simply the acknowledgment of a program previously put in place by a Republican administration, the NYPD, and a mayor and continued under Obama and Mayor Bloomberg. And yet they act like Ted Cruz is proposing something that\u2019s never, ever been done, and it\u2019s discriminatory, and it\u2019s painting all Islamists, all Muslims with a broad brush!<\/p>\n

It boils down to, “We\u2019re not to attack Islam. Islam has nothing to do with terrorism.” That\u2019s what Obama and everybody in the media apparently want us to believe. “Islam? No, no, no, no, no! These guys, these ISIS terrorists? They\u2019re not Islamists. Al-Qaeda, they\u2019re not Islamic. They just say they are. No, no.” Even though, as has been pointed out time and time again, every one of these terrorist acts and every one of these groups, proudly proclaims they\u2019re doing what they\u2019re doing because of and in honor of Islam.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Here\u2019s David, Palm Springs, California. What\u2019s up?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hey, Rush.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Hey.<\/p>\n


\nCALLER: I\u2019m a retired psychologist, and in your first hour this morning I wanted to compliment you on your identification of the psychological motivations of these entrenched politicians.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, thank you. I appreciate that. You mean the Republican establishment guys?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Those, and the liberals as well. Because it really is a process that they have to go through after years and years of convincing themselves that they aren\u2019t doing it out of self-interest, they\u2019re doing it to serve the interests of the public. They self-hypnotize themselves into believing that delusion.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s exactly right. I mean, the point that I made, if I recall what you\u2019re specifically referring to, was that it\u2019s personal to them. This is about losing a precious personal position of power, prestige, security, income, what have you, that\u2019s disguised as caring about other people, the system, what have you. It\u2019s purely personal, and they fear losing it.<\/p>\n

CALLER: It absolutely is. If I can expand on it a little bit, I\u2019ve been —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, I would love to hear this. I\u2019ve gotta take a quick break if you can hang on through the break. But I\u2019m fascinated, because here we have a professional, a professional mind analyzer telling me that I nailed it. So, yeah, I want to hear this.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: And we happily rejoin David, a retired psychologist in Palm Springs, California, who is calling to congratulate me on my analysis of the motivations behind the Republican and Democrat establishment. You said it was profound. What exactly did I say that engendered this reaction from you?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, you described how they have to get up in the morning every morning and remind themselves of how great they are.<\/p>\n

RUSH: And how relevant.<\/p>\n

CALLER: How special they are.<\/p>\n

RUSH: How important, how they matter to themselves. They tell themselves they matter.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes. Yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH: They\u2019re opinion makers. They shape outcomes. That\u2019s what they tell themselves each and every day.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right. Now, in order to maintain that self-delusion, they have to engage in behaviors that I call spiritual vampires.<\/p>\n


\nRUSH: Oh, that\u2019s interesting. Spiritual vampires.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I can picture a couple these people when you put it that way.<\/p>\n

CALLER: And there\u2019s two worlds that are important to them: the material world and the intellectual arena.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Ah, yes. Yes, yes, yes, yes.<\/p>\n

CALLER: And Trump represents competence in the material world. And Cruz represents competence in the intellectual world.<\/p>\n

RUSH: And they are threatened by both. Is that what you\u2019re saying?<\/p>\n

CALLER: And they have to suck the energy, their spirit out of them.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Interesting. Wait. Who\u2019s sucking the energy out of whom?<\/p>\n

CALLER: The spiritual vampires.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Ah. Right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Of the two, the intellectual world is more threatening to the left than the material world. The material world can be controlled with taxes and regulations and other kinds of tradeoffs. But the intellectual world attacks the ivory towers. Look at how the intellectuals have taken over the colleges and universities. They can\u2019t stand an argument that they can\u2019t refute or rebut.<\/p>\n

RUSH: It doesn\u2019t exist, is the way they happen to deal with it.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: There is no alternative.<\/p>\n

CALLER: So they have to attack Cruz personally and discredit his credibility.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, Cruz — I remember what you\u2019re reacting to now. I was wrong, my first perception of what you were reacting to was wrong. You\u2019re reacting to the way I characterized the fear of Cruz that manifests in people. Media people, leftists, Democrats, even some in the Republican establishment. And it\u2019s because they know they\u2019re not in his league so they don\u2019t even want to get on the same playing field he\u2019s on. They trying to keep him off their playing field. They don\u2019t enter his, so they relegate him into some other area where he is some kook or he\u2019s perceived as a minister that doesn\u2019t give the money back or some such denigrating caricature in order to deal with him because that\u2019s the only way they can.<\/p>\n

I mean, you can watch the guy in a debate. I don\u2019t care if it\u2019s substantive, when he has an off night he\u2019s in a different league than these guys. When Cruz has an off night, policy-wise he\u2019s running rings around \u2019em, knowledge-wise he\u2019s running rings around \u2019em, solutions-wise he\u2019s running rings around \u2019em. They can\u2019t take him on on a level playing field that is his, because that disparity and their feebleness would be on display.<\/p>\n

So rather than acknowledge any of that and go there, they ignore him, report on him from afar, characterize him as some really elite kook that has nothing in common with very many Americans. I made the point last Friday. Here\u2019s a guy that, despite all of these obstacles, has nevertheless owned and occupied second place in the Republican primaries for quite a while now. A fundamental aspect of Cruz that causes all this is his conservatism. Do not doubt that for a minute, when it comes particularly to leftists and Democrats, and even some Republicans. It\u2019s the conservatism that Cruz knows, the conservatism that he is, the conservatism that he can explain, not in a tangential way, but he can explain it by proposing solutions.<\/p>\n


\nI mean, that\u2019s the most threatening form of conservatism there is, a common sense solution. Whatever problem you have, whatever issue you\u2019re discussing, he has the ability to articulate the conservative solution to it, thereby define conservatism. But he\u2019s not defining conservatism. He\u2019s just engaging in “here\u2019s what we need to do to fix it, this is what would work.” And people\u2019s reaction, “Yeah, yeah.” Except they\u2019ve got horns coming out of his head. So when he says these brilliant things, people don\u2019t pay as close attention because they\u2019ve succeeded in characterizing Cruz as an oddball, freak, kook, whatever it is. Those are my words, whatever your impression of the way they\u2019ve characterized him would work as well. And that\u2019s what they do to every competent threatening conservatism. Never take \u2019em on on substance, don\u2019t ever, \u2019cause they can\u2019t.<\/p>\n

Like Norah O\u2019Donnell in the sound bite we played earlier on this surveilling neighborhoods, the NYPD. (imitating O\u2019Donnell) “You may not be aware, you may not know.
