RUSH: Have you heard — I saw this yesterday — no sitting president\u2019s ever attended the Super Bowl. And there\u2019s a good reason for it. The Super Bowl is already a security nightmare. It\u2019s already, without the arrival of the president and everything having to do with that, it\u2019s already a security challenge. So presidents don\u2019t go, sitting presidents don\u2019t. Ex-presidents have shown up, vice presidents have shown up. But Obama told reporters that he\u2019s going to go to the Super Bowl if the Chicago Bears defeat the Green Bay Packers on Sunday and are playing in the game on February, 4th, 6th, whatever it is. <\/p>\n

I\u2019m going. No doubt. It will be the first time a sitting president attends the game. He just wants to cause trouble. If he goes to the game it\u2019s gonna be about making the whole day about him. ‘Cause he knows that the lapdog media in sports is also on his side, they\u2019ll be covering it, and the whole day will be turned over to Obama and what he\u2019s doing and where he is sitting and how\u2019s he reacting and can we get a camera crew in there to get periodic interviews with the president. I don\u2019t know if this has any impact on your thoughts on who you hope wins between the Packers and the Bears on Sunday. (interruption) Well, the regime\u2019s team, you mean the Steelers? Well, the regime just said their team\u2019s the Bears. That\u2019s the only way he\u2019s gonna go is if the Bears are in it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Ah, yes, Gilford, New Hampshire. Thank you very much for the call. Yeah. <\/p>\n

CALLER: I wanted to start off by saying you\u2019re a great American, sir.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you very much, sir. Appreciate it.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019m happy that your Steelers are in the game, at least up to this point.<\/p>\n

RUSH: (laughing) At least up to this point?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I don\u2019t know. I mean the Jets are tough.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, the Jets are tough. It\u2019s gonna be a good game.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I hope it is, and I hope the Steelers win.<\/p>\n

RUSH: They will.<\/p>\n

CALLER: But, you know, I think Obama is doing a lot of things that I may not agree with, but he does love Chicago.<\/p>\n

RUSH: He spends a lot of time at ‘Cominsky\u2019 Park.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I think that he may really enjoy the game.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, so? What did I say now that you\u2019re disagreeing with out there?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I don\u2019t know. I mean I agree with you most of the time, sir.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah?<\/p>\n

CALLER: But, you know, I think he can go to the game and not be criticized. I\u2019ve been listening to you forever, I think you\u2019re great —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: — I don\u2019t disagree with you often.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Oh, you think I\u2019m being critical when I said Obama, if he goes there, it will just be to make it about himself?<\/p>\n

CALLER: You know, maybe you were joking.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, I wasn\u2019t joking.<\/p>\n

CALLER: All right. Well, you know, some —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Look, every president knows when they go to New York that they create a nightmare for the people that live there. The reason sitting presidents don\u2019t go to Super Bowls is because it\u2019s going to create additional headaches for the security planners, for the fans, because everything has to be blocked, stopped, every plan changed and altered to get him in and out of there.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, and you have a point there, but I don\u2019t know, it\u2019s like if you disagree with him politically you don\u2019t have to go after him, you know, tooth and nail about everything. I don\u2019t know about the security and, you know, sure it costs more money, it\u2019s not convenient for people. But I mean I don\u2019t know. I just figured I\u2019d call because I disagreed with you when you made it seem like he was doing it for political gain. And I don\u2019t think that that\u2019s the reason that he\u2019s doing it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Really? <\/p>\n

CALLER: I don\u2019t. <\/p>\n

RUSH: His reelection campaign\u2019s already begun, he\u2019s gonna spend a billion dollars in that campaign. He\u2019s already got people out there working on it. Everything he\u2019s doing politically is oriented toward his reelection right now, and it just happens to be the most watched television show in the world.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I don\u2019t want to disagree with you, only because —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, go ahead if you do. I mean it\u2019s no crime.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I just figured I\u2019d throw it out there, that\u2019s all I was doing is throwing it out there —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER: — that maybe he wants to enjoy the game, but, yeah, sure, he\u2019s probably gonna get some points for being at the game and it may help him in his reelection, I don\u2019t know. <\/p>\n

RUSH: I did not say that he would get points. I did not say that it would help his reelection.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay.<\/p>\n

RUSH: What I\u2019m saying is that the primary reason he would go would not be because he\u2019s a Bears fan. When\u2019s the last time you ever heard him talk about the Bears? He\u2019s got a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey. The last time they won the Super Bowl the Steelers owner thanked Obama for it. I\u2019ve never heard the Bears say one thing about Obama. The Steelers, that\u2019s the regime\u2019s team. The Bears are an excuse for the guy to go, supposedly his home, you know, where ‘Cominsky\u2019 Park is, spent a lot of time there. Look, I\u2019m not saying he can\u2019t go. I don\u2019t have the power, nor would I exercise it if I did. I\u2019m just suggesting to you — I know you\u2019ve never been to one of these, probably — have you ever been to a Super Bowl in person?<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, I haven\u2019t had that luxury, sir.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, if you think getting on an airplane is a hassle, when\u2019s the last time you went through security at an airport?<\/p>\n

CALLER: I have gone to the Patriots games.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, that\u2019s nothing compared to a Super Bowl.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I agree, sir.<\/p>\n

RUSH: It is one of the primo targets, and this one, you\u2019re gonna have a hundred thousand people in there. By the time Jerry Jones gets through printing tickets and cramming people in there you\u2019re gonna have over a hundred thousand people in there. At this stadium you might have as many as 5,000 to 7,000 people who will not be able to watch the game, they\u2019re gonna have to watch it on TVs in concourses, but they are gonna sell tickets to get that many people in there. The last Super Bowl that had close to a hundred thousand people was the Steelers and Rams in the \u201989 Super Bowl at the Rose Bowl out in California. Talk to anybody who lives in Manhattan about what happens when the president\u2019s gonna spend a couple days there like during the UN, it\u2019s a nightmare. The traffic that gets diverted, the places that you cannot go, the air traffic, for crying out loud. <\/p>\n

I went to George H. W. Bush\u2019s 80th birthday party. This was not even a sporting event. George H. W. Bush\u2019s 80th birthday party, it was at Reliant Stadium, the baseball stadium in Houston, and they had a lot of stuff going on in the areas off the field, and everybody went down to the field in the stands for the singing and dancing and the parties. I didn\u2019t want to stay for all that so I thought I\u2019d beat the traffic, and I took my car, went back to the airport, Houston Hobby, and I was not allowed to take off for two hours until Bush 43, the president, left. I couldn\u2019t take off as long as the president was on the ground at Reliant Stadium for his dad\u2019s birthday party. So I tried to get out of there early to beat all that, and it didn\u2019t work because they had air traffic shut down. Nothing was allowed to leave. So I\u2019m sitting there twiddling my thumbs. <\/p>\n

Everything changes when the president\u2019s on sight, especially at a thing like this, and it does not facilitate, it does not improve things, it does not make things smoother, and the security — (interruption) no, I could not have taxied to Dallas. (laughing) I\u2019m trying to be serious and everybody is making jokes here. But I\u2019ll tell you something else that happens, Bob, the security people get paranoid. You\u2019ve got the president of the United States surrounded by a hundred thousand people and who knows what\u2019s up in the sky. They got the airspace shut down. And every damn one of those security people is paranoid that something\u2019s gonna go wrong on their watch. There\u2019s a reason sitting presidents don\u2019t go to these things, and it\u2019s not because they\u2019re not fans. Most of them do the civilized thing and invite friends to the White House Theater, pop up some popcorn, have the Kennedys over.<\/p>\n

Look, folks, Obama is a politician. He\u2019s running for reelection: President, United States. He campaigns all the time. Every day is a campaign. He WILL campaign all the time. He polls and tests his messages. Why would we assume that going to the Super Bowl is not a campaign move? The exception to Obama would be that it\u2019s not a campaign move. Why would we assume this is Obama simply enjoying the Super Bowl? When\u2019s the last time Obama ever talked about football? I thought, frankly, he was a big fan of the Kenyan soccer team. I was not aware he had this big love-on for the Super Bowl. <\/p>\n

And something else, folks. <\/p>\n

Obama\u2019s still out there getting credit to this day for saying what he said in Tucson. What was it? How many days ago? Four days after Tucson. He\u2019s still reaping the harvest of those comments that he made four days after Tucson. He has said nothing since. He\u2019s gonna say it again at the State of the Union Show, in general terms: All Americans need to be civil. He never points at an offender — and yet members of his own party, members of his own media, are acting in wanton violation of that for which they hailed him: A call for civility, a call for all of us to get along for the nine-year-old girl. <\/p>\n

Whatever happened to that? <\/p>\n

Have these Democrats…? Health care a matter of life and death. Republicans on health care are Goebbels and propaganda. <\/p>\n

Whatever happened to the vision of the nine-year-old girl that Obama talked about? <\/p>\n
