RUSH: Sheriff Dipstick is not happy still. Yesterday on WashingtonPost.com\u2019s \u201944\u2019 blog, the correspondent Sari Horwitz interviewed Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dipstick. She said, ‘Are people giving you a hard time for speaking out like you\u2019ve been doing?\u2019<\/p>\n

DUPNIK: Oh, you bet. Our computer system almost came to a halt because Rush Limbaugh says, ‘Send him an e-mail. Here\u2019s the address. Tell him how you feel.\u2019 We\u2019re also getting a — a lot of the — the heatseekers, about as vile as you can imagine. One person was, uh, saying he was gonna be glad when he could come and scrape the cow dung off of me before they put me in the ground. You know, just vile things, in — in addition to threats.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Let me ask those of you in this audience: Have I ever given you Sheriff Dipstick\u2019s e-mail address? Have I once suggested that you send Sheriff Dipstick an e-mail? I don\u2019t know Sheriff Dipstick\u2019s e-mail address. If Sheriff Dipstick knew what he was talking about, he would know that I do not do this. (interruption) That\u2019s true, that\u2019s true. My standard for Sheriff Dipstick is too high. He doesn\u2019t use evidence. He just speculates. But just to get it on the record: Sheriff, I did not say to anybody to send you an e-mail and to tell you how they feel. Somebody else did that. Then the sheriff continued. You\u2019ll hear the host in here, Sari Horwitz, as well.<\/p>\n

DUPNIK: It\u2019s just wrong for people to be elected to Congress and then have as their agenda, ‘We don\u2019t care what we have to do to get reelected, to get back in power. We\u2019re gonna do it,\u2019 no matter what the consequences are for America. Just like this little game the right was playing a few weeks ago with the tax for the rich. You know the game I\u2019m talking about.<\/p>\n

HORWITZ: Mmm-hmm.<\/p>\n

DUPNIK: And it was, ‘Who\u2019s gonna blink? Are you willing, Mr. President, to — to tear the economy apart, or are you gonna give what we want to the rich people?\u2019 Isn\u2019t that what it was all about?<\/p>\n

HORWITZ: Mmm-hmm.<\/p>\n

DUPNIK: Am I wrong? Well, I think people are sick of that.<\/p>\n

RUSH: So now Sheriff Dipstick\u2019s attacking the Bush tax cuts (laughing) in the lame duck session of Congress. Sheriff Dipstick, do you know who spearheaded extending the Bush tax cuts? It was President Obama, Sheriff. Lord! My friends, we are surrounded by genuine, institutional ignorance. (interruption) Well, I… (laughing) Snerdley… (laughing) Snerdley just asked me if Sheriff Dipstick ever arrests people. Meaning: Does he ever do his job? He\u2019s out there at the Washington Post blog now and somehow bringing the Bush tax cuts into the motivation-for-violence argument — and, you know, ‘Who\u2019s gonna blink? Are you willing, Mr. President, to tear the economy apart? Are you gonna give us what we want for the rich people?\u2019 He spearheaded it! Sheriff, it was Obama\u2019s idea to extend the Bush tax cuts, or Bush tax rates. <\/p>\n

You know, the sheriff is talking about issues clearly above his pay grade, I think we could all agree.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I was listening to Sheriff Dupnik\u2019s comments the last few minutes, and I really honestly think, Rush, that he\u2019s riding the gravy train and every time we bring him up, I think he is just enabled to continue to do it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s fine with me. It\u2019s not as though we have anything to fear unless you actually live there. I mean I wouldn\u2019t want to drive through Pima County with a Rush is Right bumper sticker on the car.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I would, Rush, I would in a heartbeat.<\/p>\n

RUSH: (laughing) If we\u2019re promoting anything, it\u2019s institutional ignorance. I don\u2019t see any harm in this.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you very much. There\u2019s no question that Sheriff Dupnik does like the limelight. I see this in people. Trust me on this, folks, I\u2019m being serious. The quest for fame is a destructive thing. I have seen it totally ruin people. Wannabe famous, wanna get noticed, get up and see if their name is in the paper every day. It is a poison. It is a genuine poison, and it can lead to people making fools of themselves when they don\u2019t even know it, and sometimes they don\u2019t care if they make fools of themselves if that\u2019s what it takes to get noticed.
