CALLER: You have an excellent staff, by the way.<\/p>\n

RUSH: How do you know?<\/p>\n

CALLER: What? (pause) Because I talked to \u2019em a couple of times.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Oh? I\u2019m curious. How many of them have you talked to?<\/p>\n

CALLER: (pause) Three.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Three? <\/p>\n

CALLER: Uh-huh.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Cool. All right. I\u2019m sure they\u2019ll be happy to hear that.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (pause) Rush, as I\u2019ve listened to you talk today (pause), how can I help you?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Tim, is your radio on? If your radio\u2019s on you need to turn your radio off. We\u2019re on about a 45 second-delay, and if you\u2019re trying to follow the radio you\u2019re gonna be totally, totally confused. Turn the radio off.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (pause) I\u2019m doing that right now.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay. <\/p>\n

CALLER: (pause) It\u2019s off now.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, the radio\u2019s off. Now you should start again. You\u2019ve talked to the three members of the staff, and they\u2019re great people, right?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes, sir.<\/p>\n

RUSH: All right. Now, what did you say you wanted to help me with? <\/p>\n

CALLER: My question, Rush, is: ‘What can I do to help you as you\u2019re having to deal with these issues?\u2019<\/p>\n

RUSH: What issues?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Like the shooting in Arizona.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Oh, you mean when I\u2019m being attacked for that?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH: What can you do to help?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes. <\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah. I think you do it by continuing to listen and not being affected by it all. Don\u2019t believe it. That\u2019s the single best thing you can do and everybody in this audience is like that. Nobody buys it. That\u2019s the single best thing that you could do. I really appreciate your asking and I appreciate your thought. That\u2019s very moving, and that\u2019s… I don\u2019t know. Just help get out the truth. Don\u2019t be afraid to tell the truth — say the truth, tell the truth — to people that you come in contact with who do believe that stuff. ‘Cause they\u2019re attacking you, too, when they say this stuff. It\u2019s not just me. They\u2019re saying that you are all capable of doing what Jared Loughner did because you listen here. <\/p>\n

If I were you and if you aren\u2019t, I\u2019d take it personally. It\u2019s meant that way. It\u2019s not me. In fact, they know it isn\u2019t me pulling the trigger. They think it\u2019s one of you! They think it is I, El Rushbo (a harmless, lovable little fuzzball) mesmerizing you, hypnotizing you, motivating you to do what this guy did. It\u2019s really… These comments are aimed at you. I would take it personally and I would not stand for it. Don\u2019t think it\u2019s just an attack on your host. They\u2019re calling all of us accessories to murder with this, and now the latest template is, ‘Well, man, you guys are really going overboard defending yourselves here. You really, really, really are.\u2019 And Palin there, ‘She must really have guilty feelings about this to go and defend herself.\u2019 She was dragged into this.
