CALLER: Really?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yes. There\u2019s a lot of pressure on the first caller. You want to pass it to somebody else? I\u2019ll take somebody else and make you second if you don\u2019t think you\u2019re up to it.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I don\u2019t know that I\u2019m — I don\u2019t know. I don\u2019t know that I\u2019m high quality for the first caller since I\u2019m calling rather annoyed, but I\u2019m a very longtime listener to you, Rush.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, that makes you terribly qualified.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Good.<\/p>\n

RUSH: What are you annoyed about?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay. I\u2019ve been listening and I\u2019m getting tired of defending you, but for the wrong reasons.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Oh, no.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I told Snerdley, I think that\u2019s who I was talking to, I don\u2019t know, but I said what has gotten me upset, maybe it\u2019s this whole stupid, the newest stupid of the No Labels nonsense going on. And I realized, well, that\u2019s a bunch of hoo-ha anyway. We always have labels about anything whether you do it internally in your head or whatever, doesn\u2019t matter. But I\u2019m tired of you labeling yourself Republican, and I mean that as a compliment. Maybe it\u2019s because I\u2019m a Chicagoan and this kinda stuff, and I keep myself as saying I\u2019m an independent in any conversation, which I believe in your heart you are. And the point is —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Oh, I see where this is going.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Listen. No, no, no. Let me finish. You are a man of ideals.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Ideas.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Ideals.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, both.<\/p>\n

CALLER: What you believe in your gut, what you believe you want for the country. That\u2019s what makes you be Republican. But you wouldn\u2019t be Republican just to be Republican. The reason you\u2019re Republican, the reason you vote Republican, the reason you fight for them is because of the ideals that they\u2019re the best people right now —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, but wait. I\u2019m a conservative first.<\/p>\n

CALLER: What? Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Not a Republican.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Exactly, conservative. But so many times you allow yourself to get labeled, the conservative Republican. It\u2019s almost like it\u2019s the same word nowadays, and it annoys the heck out of me.<\/p>\n

RUSH: So wait a minute, now, I\u2019m still trying to remember where you have to defend me to people in all this.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay. Well, it\u2019s the whole thing. I mean, your persona which I don\u2019t mind because if people listen to you long enough, they get it, that you\u2019re goofing around half the time, you know, half the brain, blah, blah, blah —<\/p>\n

RUSH: All right, yeah, yeah, yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay. But, you know, just that a lot of times you come off, make comments that are too much pro-Republican with it seeming like it\u2019s Republican, as opposed to —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Wait a minute.<\/p>\n

CALLER: — at the heart of — (crosstalk)<\/p>\n

RUSH: Who are you having — (crosstalk)<\/p>\n

CALLER: — heart is virtuous.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Are you upset at what I say about independents? Is that what it is?<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, no, no, no. I don\u2019t care. I mean I think that\u2019s part of the whole yaw yaw —<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, it\u2019s not part of the whole yaw yaw, it\u2019s not part of the whole yaw yaw. It\u2019s not a bit. It\u2019s not calculated or structured, but you say you\u2019re getting tired of defending me just like the Obama voter told him that she\u2019s tired of having to defend him \u2019cause what he\u2019s doing isn\u2019t working. What I\u2019m doing is working.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Because a lot of times you come off, you say things and people can write you off as that wacky Republican conservative guy.<\/p>\n

RUSH: There\u2019s nothing I can do about that.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Huh?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Half these people, 95% of the people you\u2019re talking about saying things about me, I don\u2019t even know it. You say I allow things to be said about me.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, that\u2019s because your listening audience is the ones on the fighting lines.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, let\u2019s say some slimeball little reporter for a Chicago weekly writes something about me that makes you —<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, no, no, I don\u2019t mean that. I\u2019m talking about at the block party and at the cocktail party and, you know, hanging out —<\/p>\n

RUSH: How can I possibly defend myself against that when I\u2019m not there?<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, no. You can\u2019t. <\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay but you\u2019re —<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019m just saying so many times I wish you would more talk about the heart of Rush Limbaugh than just the simple conservative or the simple Republican. It comes from a deeper place than just conservative and just Republican, and I mean I literally. I have five kids and they\u2019ve all grown up listening to you, and they wouldn\u2019t admit that they\u2019re Rush Babies but I know none of them voted for Obama —<\/p>\n

RUSH: So basically what you\u2019re telling me, Dorothy, you want to hear my feminine side?<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, I do not. Oh, stop. Ugh. No, I don\u2019t want to hear your feminine side. That\u2019s a no. I\u2019m just saying I want —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Dorothy, I\u2019m sadly out of time, and I have to be honest with you: I\u2019m no closer to understanding what\u2019s wrong than I was when I answered the call.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (laughing) Okay.<\/p>\n
