That’s what the Obama press conference was yesterday, ladies and gentlemen. In fact, Operation Wet Diaper is what the entire Democrat Party is going through. It’s amazing to watch all this. You know, I’m not all that convinced that the deal is gonna hold up. It could fall apart over something as innocuous as the death tax. It could fall apart over that just as easily as it could fall apart over the extension of tax cuts for the rich, and if it falls apart, Obama will be happy. Make no mistake. He would love to be able to blame this falling apart on Republicans. He would love to be able to blame the fact that there is going to be a tax increase on the middle-class on Republicans. He would love to do so. Obama’s an ideologue. He doesn’t care about the middle-class. He doesn’t care about any class. He cares about himself.

Anyway, as I told you, we’ve got audio sound bites from the presser yesterday, and we will analyze it as only I can, Operation Wet Diaper. I mean the media is just beside itself over how pathetic his performance was yesterday. One guy from Talking Points Memo — I love it when all these elitist journalists get into their analysis business, and this one guy from Talking Points Memo, I’m gonna have to paraphrase it, said we saw something we’ve never seen before, an Obama we never knew existed, and that is the nonmessiah, the pragmatic — what was the word — well, a guy who will just go along to get something done. We’ve not seen that Obama before, a little bit disappointed. I’ll get to the actual wording of it as the program unfolds.

Now, this morning on Fox & Friends, David Axelrod, number one advisor to Obama in the White House, said that this deal had nothing to do with getting Obama reelected. He said, and I quote, ‘We just had an election. We shouldn’t be thinking about the next election.’ Now, this is the guy who’s leaving the White House at the end of the month to go back to Chicago to start working on — dadelut dadelut dadelut — Obama’s reelection. But this had nothing to do with the election. The New York Times says this deal started with Biden talking to McConnell. Biden went to McConnell, and I do think that there are some Republicans — you know, they know the cavalry is coming in January, the conservative freshmen, they know that a whole different attitude about this is arriving in January. So the current Republicans, ‘Let’s just get this done now. Let’s not ruffle a lot of feathers. Let’s just extend the Bush tax rates and extend unemployment benefits and get it all done before the new guys arrive, ’cause the new guys are gonna want much, much more.’ But if you get this done before the new guys arrive, then the new guys have it even tougher. But if the deal is not done, the new guys, the cavalry, they got a chance to play a much larger role. So Bite Me goes to McConnell, according to the New York Times, and that’s how the deal gets put together.

Now, Obama, for his part, keeps insisting that he’s just trying to help the American economy, just like when he gave most of the stimulus money to public sector unions; just like when he banned oil drilling for seven years, defying court orders in the process; just like when he tried to ram through cap and trade. He’s just trying to help the American economy, right? He’s not trying to help anybody but himself. He’s not trying to help the American economy. If he was trying to help the American economy he wouldn’t be doing anything that he’s doing. He would have learned that what he’s tried has failed and he’d be reversing it if he really cared about the American economy. He doesn’t even care about the far-left fringe. They always thought he did. They’re running around saying, ‘Gee, we thought he was The Messiah.” Hey, that’s your problem, not his. If you’re stupid enough to fall for, if you’re stupid enough to think that a mortal human being is actually messianic, it’s not his fault. It’s yours. He’s been laughing all the way to the bank. I can see him sitting there with Axelrod and Valerie Jarrett talking, (imitating Obama) ‘Hey, yeah, they think I’m God. I’m close, but they actually think I am one.’ If I had been in the meeting I would say, ‘Mr. President, God is very busy right now, and I wouldn’t belabor him with some of your irrelevant ideas.’

And, by the way, have you noticed — I love this — the media, the rest of the Democrats are suddenly asking where the revenue’s gonna come from to pay for tax extension for the rich. Like F. Chuck Todd yesterday worrying about how much is this gonna cost the Treasury, how much is this gonna cost the government? I love these guys all of a sudden worrying about where the money is gonna come from. Did they ask where the revenue was gonna come from with the stimulus bill? Did they ask where the revenue was gonna come from for the bailout of his UAW buddies at General Motors and Chrysler? Do they wonder who’s gonna pay for the subsidizing of the Chevy Volt? Did they wonder where the revenue was gonna come from for the bailout of his Wall Street buddies? And that’s another thing, words mean things to me. I live in Realville, Literalville. I watched Bob Beckel on Fox, last night, the night before, he’s upset because the guys who caused the problem are getting an extension of their tax rates, as in Wall Street, as in Wall Street caused the problem. </line>
</line>
Now, I don’t doubt that there are a bunch of lib Democrats on Wall Street who contributed to it, but this problem that they constantly refer to, that’s subprime mortgage, and only the ignorant and uninformed could be convinced that that was a pure and simple exclusive Wall Street deal. That was the government starting with Clinton telling Wall Street and the banks what they had to do or else they’d be investigated. Now, you and I know this. I’ve repeated this a number of times. But anything they can come up with, pure class envy, that and income redistribution, wealth redistribution, they just can’t get past it. Where’s the revenue gonna come from for unemployment benefits extensions? You know, this is gonna be the sixth extension in two years, in 2008. I don’t want to offend a whole segment of the audience, but I’ve talked to some women who say, ‘Rush, you gotta back off on this unemployment business, it’s Christmastime. There aren’t any jobs out there. We love our fellow Americans. It would be one thing if there were jobs and we stood for the elimination of these extensions. But there aren’t any jobs to be had because of Obama, the Democrats. The only way these people are gonna be able to live is if we extend their unemployment.’ But it’s six times in two years. It doesn’t matter to ’em. Six times, six extensions in two years, doesn’t matter to ’em. It’s Christmastime. This is exactly why the timing of this is what it is. It’s to get to a certain segment of the voting populace. </line>

BREAK TRANSCRIPT</line>
</line>
RUSH: I’m sitting here today and I’m not convinced this deal is going to hold. I’m not convinced. Let me put it this way, I won’t be surprised if it falls apart. It could fall apart over the death tax, surprisingly. They melted the White House phone lines. He knows full well that he had a meltdown yesterday. Let’s go to the audio sound bites. During the Q&A Wall Street Journal’s Jonathan Weisman said, ‘Some on the left have looked at this deal and they’ve questioned what your core values are.’ Now, he has never been asked this question by the State-Controlled Media. What happened in there yesterday, I watched it toward the end of the program during commercial breaks, I was reporting to you, and he was livid. And they were disrespectful in the sense that gone was Mr. Messiah. When Weisman says here, ‘Some on the left have looked at this deal and they’ve questioned what your core values are,’ what he’s really saying is, ‘I am wondering what your core values are.’ </line>

The simplest cop-out, cowardly way to ask a question is to dump it on the proverbial ‘some’ on the left or ‘others’ saying. What specifically are your core values? What specifically will you go to the mat on? People are asking. I wonder, Mr. President, if you can reassure them with some specific things in saying, ‘All right, this is where I don’t budge.’ The media was desperate to help him yesterday. They were desperate to find out, (imitating media) ‘Come on, man, we made you who you are. We’re the ones that lied about you and we’re the ones that built you up. You gotta have our back, man. We’re the ones that told everybody you were The Messiah, that you were different, that you were new, that we had never had anybody in politics like you, that you were postpartisan, postracial, and you are embarrassing us, and you are letting us down. You better answer our questions and tell us what it is you stand for, bud. Where are you gonna go to the mat?’ And here is Obama’s answer to that.

OBAMA: This is the public option debate all over again. So I pass a signature piece of legislation where we finally get health care for all Americans, something that Democrats have been fighting for for a hundred years, but because there was a provision in there that they didn’t get that would have affected maybe a couple of million people, even though we got health insurance for 30 million people and the potential for lower premiums for a hundred million people, that somehow that was a sign of weakness and compromise.

RUSH: This has been festering. This tells me that he has been festering, this has been effervescing inside him, that he’s unappreciated, that he did something nobody else has done, and they wanted it for a hundred years, and by golly he got it. He didn’t get everything he wanted, he got 99%, and they don’t appreciate me, and in a sense I gotta side with him on this. Health care, I mean he’s taken over one-sixth of the US private sector. This is significant. This has got to change if America’s gonna go back to being the country we all love and knew. Like I keep saying, ‘If I were on the left and I really believed this stuff, I would be as happy as I could be.’ Well, they’re constitutionally incapable of happiness. So let’s turn it around. If I’m conservative, which I am, and one of our guys gets elected president and gets as much done in two years for our side as this guy’s done for the left, we would be throwing parties, we would not be angry. I can understand where he’s ticked off, but Mr. President and all you people, you know this, you’re a lib, nothing’s ever good enough for you, no matter what you get, it’s never enough. You should know this. The left always wants more. And then he continued with this. He continued lecturing Democrats, calls ’em sanctimonious.

OBAMA: If that’s the standard by which we are measuring success or core principles then let’s face it, we will never get anything done. People will have the satisfaction of having a purist position and no victories for the American people and we will be able to feel good about ourselves and sanctimonious about how pure our intentions are and how tough we are, and in the meantime the American people are still seeing themselves not able to get health insurance because of a preexisting condition or not being able to pay their bills ’cause their unemployment insurance ran out. That can’t be the measure of how we think about our public service. That can’t be the measure of what it means to be a Democrat.

RUSH: So he’s essentially telling them, look, I gotta back off on some of this stuff if we’re to get anything done. And that infuriated ’em even more because the question was, ‘Where you gonna go to the mat, what are your core values?’ And he withered. He caved. And that made them even angrier. I know it’s hard to comprehend. But these people on the left, they are truly enraged. It is a lifestyle. They are never happy. I looked at the comments on the Daily Kos website, they are hilarious. But they’re real. And it went on for ten pages. I mean they are just fit to be tied because Obama is not what they thought he was, which, again, I maintain is their problem, not his. He’s made this promise that the rich would have their taxes increased when the Bush tax rates expired. He made that promise 10 or 12 times. Now he’s just kinda punted on it. So in that sense I do understand their rage, happened to us. ‘Read my lips, no new taxes,’ and then we got new taxes with Bush 41. But they’re truly enraged, more so each and every day, and more so with every answer he gives.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: The press conference yesterday. You know, there weren’t a whole lot of questions from the White House press ‘corpse’ highlighting the importance of compromise yesterday. Heh-heh-heh. No, folks! Those questions were dumping on Obama like he was a dog! And I have to tell you… Stop and think of this now. Think about it. Obama has gone from being treated like a messiah to being treated like a dog just two years into his term. He’s gone from the highest heights to unprecedented lows, in terms of the way he’s been treated by his idols: The State-Controlled White House Press Corps. Such a precipitous fall would have serious consequences even on an emotionally healthy and reasonable man. This guy, by virtue of his answers, is stewing. He is stewing in the privacy of his existence as a narcissist would.

Being unappreciated, not being heralded, not being treated as the historic figure that he thinks that he is and at one time was. Let’s continue here with the audio sound bites. You know, before we do this, I want to mention something to you. I’m in the process of maybe asking you guys a question again. I remember saying when the ranking Republican called me and told me he expected Obama to moderate, to move to the center because he’d have to do that to get reelected, that he’d hear the American people. I said, ‘Mr. Ranking Republican, I think you’re wrong. I think this guy is just going to double down. He is not gonna move to the center — and he, if he has to, will use executive actions to get what he wants done.’

People are saying, ‘Hey, Rush, it looks like he’s moving to the center here on this tax cut thing. It looks like he’s moving to the center on this,’ ’cause he could just say, ‘All right, screw it. We’re not doing it. These things are expiring and we’re gonna let these tax rates go back to what they were with Clinton.’ Now, I’ve been thinking about that and trying to figure out how he’s looking at this strategically. I think the way he’s looking at this strategically is get this stuff out of the way now, people will forget about it, and in 2012 he’ll get his tax increase. In fact, Barney Frank, who needs two drains in his mouth now, was just on Andrea Mitchell (NBC News, Washington)’s show, and he said (impression), ‘Two years from now, there clear’wy will not be a we’cession and we’ll be able to w’aise taxes on the w’ich to a more fair w’evel.’

See, I think Obama believes that, too. I think Obama is confident that the nutjobs of his base will rally behind him two years from now when it matters. It doesn’t matter now. I remember a story Bill Belichick told going into a Super Bowl. The Patriots were playing the Packers or the Rams, I forget which, and they won in an upset. I think it was the Rams. A couple days before the game he got out videotape of a horse race to show to the entire team. He stopped the race one-fourth of the way through and said, ‘Okay, who’s gonna win?’ And the players all started making bets on who was gonna win, based on what they saw. He stopped it at the halfway point and said, ‘Okay, who’s gonna win?’ The players made bets.

He stopped it three-fourths of the way through. ‘Okay, who do you think is gonna win now?’ and the players all made bets. Finally he said, ‘Don’t you understand, it doesn’t matter. It only matters at the end. All this stuff — the first turn, halfway through, three-quarters — it doesn’t matter. You can’t tell who’s gonna win ’til it’s actually over.’ It was his way of telling his guys, ‘You gotta play all four quarters in this game. It doesn’t matter what’s happening at halftime.’ Obama is looking at this in much the same way. It doesn’t matter right now what the base is doing ’cause they can’t take it out on him at the polls. It really doesn’t matter — in an electoral sense. Sure, it ticks him off messiah-wise, ego-wise, but it really doesn’t matter. Two years from now it’ll matter.

That’s when they either will or won’t vote for him — and two years from now, he’ll come out and he’ll refight this tax issue. That’s why this ticks me off, because it ought not come up again. We should be going for cuts. This is a two-year extension. Two years plays right into the electoral theory and plans of the Democrats. Now to his base, most of this is real, and the deal brings ’em back under his wing before the election. He already said he’s gonna fight this in two years, and if the Republicans aren’t careful (and they aren’t, let’s face it) this could backfire on ’em. He said that he’s gonna try to appeal to Democrats and independents by bashing the rich in two years. He said he’s gonna do it. Now, many on our side confidently say that the public doesn’t buy this class envy stuff anymore, that they don’t buy class warfare, that it doesn’t work.

I’m not so sure. But even so, why test it? Why test it? We won a massive election victory. Deal with this now. The cavalry is coming. I guarantee you, these people arriving in the House in January, you’re gonna love it. They are going to be hell-bent on implementing what they were sent to Washington to do. Now, we’ll be watching. Some of them will probably be courted by the powers that be socially in Washington, and we know that it happens to the best of them. They get caught up in that town and the way things work there. We know that liberals run it. So we’ll see. There’s a lot yet to happen in front of us. Now, back to the audio sound bites. Obama is still answering the question that Jonathan Weisman of the Wall Street Journal asked: What are your core values, man? What are you gonna go to the mat over?

OBAMA: This is a big, diverse country! Not everybody agrees with us! I know that shocks —

RUSH: Oh, stop the tape and cue it back up. I told you about this one yesterday. He is talking to the press. This is near the end of the presser. He’s frustrated and angry with the press corps and with the questions. He’s answering this question from Weisman at the Wall Street Journal, and he is speaking not to the people of this country. He’s speaking to the press ‘corpse.’ He’s talking to the White House press people in that room, calling them ‘us,’ for example. Here we go.

OBAMA: This is a big, diverse country! Not everybody agrees with us! I know that shocks people. Now, the New York Times editorial page does not permeate across all of America. Neither does the Wall Street Journal editorial page. This is why FDR, when he started Social Security, it only affected widows and orphans. You did not qualify, and yet now it is something that really helps a lot of people. When Medicare was started, it was a small program. It grew. Under the criteria that you just set out, each of those were betrayals of some abstract ideal.

RUSH: He is livid at these guys, but he was talking like a heretic. ‘The New York Times editorial page doesn’t permeate across all of America.’ You know, we run around and we complain about the mainstream media. We complain about the bias, the lack of objectivity and so forth — and so do they, except he’s upset. He’s trying to remind these guys: Look, the Times is our Bible, but it doesn’t permeate all across America, damn it. Not everybody agrees with us. I know that shocks you. ‘Now, the New York Times editorial page doesn’t permeate…’ This is really opening up. This is a clear view into his mind-set, and that of the full-fledged liberal mind-set. They’re ticked off. They’re winning and they’re ticked off. ‘Hey, not everybody agrees with us.’ That makes him mad.

By the way, he committed another gaffe. ‘This is why FDR, when he started Social Security, it only affected widows and orphans.’ That’s not right. He couldn’t be more wrong. It was ‘Old Age Assistance.’ Social Security was called ‘Old Age Assistance.’ It was specifically about seasoned citizens. It wasn’t about ‘widows and orphans,’ and this is not the first time he’s got this wrong. He’s gotten this wrong many, many times — like 57 states. He campaigned in ‘all 57 states.’ He’s looking at the press, ‘You guys didn’t qualify for Social Security when it started.’ The hell they didn’t. Everybody qualified when they reached a certain age. But it wasn’t for widows and orphans?

‘You guys didn’t qualify. Medicare didn’t start out for you.’ By design! The only way these things get passed into law is if they’re said to cost very little just to help a small group of people, but look at what happens to all these programs? They finally expand and blow up to the point that nobody can pay for ’em. Nobody knows how many people are being treated redundantly, benefiting redundantly from all of this. This chip on his shoulder moment, that’s it. When he’s backed into a corner, the Bamster plays the race card. He’s still answering the question from Jonathan Weisman of the Wall Street Journal: What do you stand for? What are you gonna go to the mat over? What are your core values?

OBAMA: This country was founded on compromise! I couldn’t go through the front door at this country’s founding and, eh, you know, if we were really thinking about ideal positions, we wouldn’t have a union.

RUSH: Ohhh, the chip on the shoulder becomes visible. The chip on the shoulder is large. ‘This country was founded on compromise’? This is the first paean to compromise that I’ve heard from the Democrats regarding this deal. The press didn’t ask about it. We’ve been told, ‘Bipartisanship and compromise. That’s what the American people want,’ but there hasn’t been any celebration of it with this deal until now. ‘This country was founded on compromise. I couldn’t go through the front door at this country’s founding,’ and, believe me, he still holds that against this country, and that’s one of the reasons he’s got this country in his crosshairs. Make no mistake about it.

Saul Alinsky taught that community organizers, the agitators, should not have core principles. They should just try to get done what they’re told to get done, and Obama was a community organizer. You have to be flexible. You have to be able to roll with the flow. That’s what Alinsky said. Alinsky said you have to be willing to give up everything and anything to accomplish your larger goals — and Obama is ticked off here at the media not knowing that about Alinsky. He thinks everybody on the left knows the bible. He thinks everybody on the left ought to understand what he’s doing here. He can’t believe that they don’t. It sounded like he was starting to channel his inner Reverend Wright there towards the end of this press conference. The anger. Finally, still answering the same question, he tells the liberals he tried to keep his promises. Listen to this.

OBAMA: Take a tally! Look at what I promised during the campaign! There’s not a single thing I have said that I would do that I have not either done or tried to do — and if I haven’t gotten it done yet, I’m still trying to do it. And so the — the — the — uhh, to my Democratic friends, what I’d suggest is, ‘Let’s make sure that we understand this is a long game; this is not a short game,’ and to my Republican friends, I would suggest, uhhh, ‘I think this is a good agreement,’ ’cause I know that they’re swallowing some things that they don’t like as well and I’m lookin’ forward to seeing them, uh, on the field of competition, uh, over the next two years.

RUSH: Yeah, well, again: ‘Look at what I promised during the campaign.’ He promised these tax rates would expire. He promised it ten times, maybe more. And then he says, ‘There’s not a single thing that I’ve said I would do that I have not either done or tried to do.’ So they get a dose of ‘creating or saving’ jobs. He gets credit now for doing it or ‘trying’ to do it, and he’s trying to increase these tax rates. He’s trying. He just can’t get it done and wants credit for it. So he tried. He tried to keep his promises. He’s a liberal. His intentions should be all that matter. That’s what he’s trying to tell us: Hey, I’m trying here! But even the country was founded on compromise. Hell, I couldn’t walk in the front door when this country was founded.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: You know, all you liberals that are mad at Obama, I understand it, but Obama did not write the health care law. Reid and Pelosi wrote the health care law. Well, their staffs did. That health care law has been in a drawer. It’s been in Henry Waxman’s drawer; it was in Pelosi’s door; it’s been in Harry Reid’s desk drawer. They’ve had this thing written up for years. You think they’re gonna put together 2,000 pages on the day after Obama gets elected, or immaculated? That thing’s been sitting around collecting dust. It was written years ago by the staff, but if you’re gonna get mad at Obama you gotta get mad at the people who wrote it because they’re the ones that ultimately caused all the delays with it. These guys, ‘We don’t need to read this thing, we never read the bills.’ Well, that caused a delay. You people mad at Obama, I understand it, but be mad at the whole Democrat Party. For crying out loud, look what you gave the guy. You gave him the White House. You gave him a supermajority in the House. You gave Obama — I’m talking about you Democrat voters — 60 votes in the Senate. You gave him everything he needed to get everything he wanted (snapping fingers) like that.

There was nothing the Republicans could do to stop anything. That’s why most of the Republican Party was just depressed as they could be. There wasn’t one thing they could do legislatively to stop anything Obama was going to do, and yet look where we are in two years. Now, he’s got a lot done. But there’s a lot that didn’t get done, and the left is livid. You gotta hand it to ’em. I mean, look what the unions did for this guy. Not just unions, let’s look at the left. The unions, the media, African-Americans, Hispanics, illegals, homosexuals, educated elites, the government employees, they invested billions of dollars into getting The Messiah elected. They got him total control over this government, total control. I mean total. Republicans couldn’t do one thing with votes to stop him. He was supposed to do everything they wanted. This was their great moment, just like they’ve been trying to pass health care for a hundred years or 50. They had been waiting. They had been masturbating at night to this whole notion. They had been having orgasms. I’m describing it that way, folks, because I want to be literal. I want you to know what the election of this guy meant to the left.

Put yourself in their shoes. Imagine that Ronaldus Magnus 2 surfaces. Imagine there is somebody. And this guy wins in a landslide, gets 60, 61 seats in the Senate, 150-seat majority in the House, imagine what you’d be expecting. You would be expecting the RINO Republicans to get rolled or to come around. You would expect all kinds of things to happen. And if it didn’t, you’d be saying, ‘What’s the point?’ You’d be suspicious, you’d be wondering what’s the point of getting everybody elected, what’s the point of spending all this money, what’s the point if it’s not gonna happen? That’s where they are. That’s why they are livid. And despite all of this, he barely got Obamacare through, barely got it. He didn’t get everything he wants yet. We’re still having another presidential election in two years. After all, there will be another election. There was a question about that. There was some question about whether there would be elections again. But there will be one in two years, after all.

They don’t have card check. They don’t have amnesty for illegals. They don’t have gay marriage. They don’t have Gitmo closed. They don’t have tax increases on the rich. There is no more majority in the House. They barely have one in the Senate. They should be mad because he had it all. They gave it all to him. You could say that they paved the road in rubies and diamonds for this guy. They paved the roads in gold. He was taken to the White House without his feet getting dirty by touching the ground. He has not taken advantage of all that he’s been given, and now it’s gone.

I have here in my formally nicotine-stained fingers a statement by AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka on the tax cut deal. ‘Two years ago, working Americans had high hopes that we would ultimately emerge from the deep, punishing financial debacle with a sharp focus on a fundamentally stronger, fairer and more balanced economy. Today, that vision has dimmed. The tax cut deal rewards Republican obstructionism by giving the wealthy the tax breaks they demanded. It throws away precious resources needed for investments in jobs and our economy on upper income tax cuts that will do very little to propel economic growth — setting up excuses for the deficit hypocrites to argue for even more cuts to programs serving working families. It lards the tax cuts for the top 2 percent with an indefensible cut in the estate tax — giving yet another bonus to the super-rich. Taken together, this package locks in the growing income inequality that has plagued our country for at least another two years — and quite possibly much longer.’

Of course, Dick, there is no cut in the estate tax. It’s right now zero and it’s going up to 35%. But that’s a minor little detail. ‘It is unconscionable that the price of support for struggling middle class families and workers who have been unable to find jobs for months and months and months is yet more giveaways for our country’s wealthiest families. Millions of jobless workers have lived in fear for months while Senate Republicans had the gall to use their hardships as political leverage for the benefit of the rich. … How do we use our power to escape caving in to Wall Street and moneyed interests? And how do we create the millions of jobs we need now and move toward a future of broadly shared prosperity?’ He doesn’t say it, but what he means is how do we do this since we can’t count on Obama? They do feel betrayed, and in this statement Trumka just admitted income tax is all about income redistribution. It’s not about raising revenue. It’s about income redistribution. Everybody’s talking about the hissy fit that Obama threw in his press conference. He did, but the press corps threw one too. It was a bunch of children; it was Romper Room; it was kindergarten at the White House press conference yesterday, pure and simple.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Scott, Tyler, Texas, thank you for calling, sir. You’re next on the EIB Network.

CALLER: Hey, Rush. Texas-sized, gun-toting, nine mile-per-gallon Hummer driving dittos.

RUSH: I love you, man. I love the nine mile-a-gallon Hummer.

CALLER: Probably about that number. Common sense and 20 years of your training tells me that this tax deal is a setup. Now, don’t get me wrong, I think he hates every bit of it. But, knowing three things that Obama’s needed to get elected and to get his socialist agenda done, is number one, discredit capitalism; two, increase the hatred for the rich; and three, continue to blame Bush and the Republicans for everything. Now, this last election and the latest polls on the Bush tax cuts show him losing the battle. I mean we’re blaming him now. We’re blaming the Democrats. And he’s lost that momentum. He’s gotta get it back somehow. So I see him, and your training has always taught me to look — they always gotta have an upside. And the upside for him is to only extend the cuts for two years, extend unemployment to three years. Now you’ve got fewer people dropping off the end of unemployment, more people getting on it, and I can see right in the middle of the election cycle next time around unemployment rising to 12, 13%. The uncertainty about the tax cuts are still there. Nobody’s gonna hire anybody. And he can come up during the elections and say, ‘See, you all threw a fit, made me do it. Bush’s tax cuts didn’t work then –‘

RUSH: Well, now, there is something to this theory. We took a little while to get there, but there is something to this. Stop and look at it this way. The last thing Obama wants is for this to work if it does get implemented. Now, it’s not a tax cut. It’s an implementation of the current tax rates. He’s calling it a stimulus, but it’s not. Nothing’s going to change. So he’s counting on, with more unemployment benefit compensation, more high unemployment. He’s counting on that. He’s counting on it being made to look like this doesn’t work. The worst thing that could happen to him is if it does, ’cause it discredits everything he’s trying to do. If it is perceived as a tax cut, and in one way we could say that because they have been talking about letting these cuts expire, which would be a tax increase, so if we were facing a tax increase and they don’t go up, call it a tax cut. Actually nothing will change, because of that how stimulative will it be, two years? Another point, is that enough for businesses to make long-term plans regarding tax policy? Many people say that it isn’t.

So these two extensions of the tax rates and the unemployment benefits guarantee the Democrats can run for the next two years on class warfare. They guarantee that at least, that the rich got an unfair thing here, and we really shouldn’t have been helping them at all, got meager assistance for the unemployed, that’s why I’m proposing a retirement plan for the unemployed, called inertial security. So the unemployment benefits will end in time for Obama to use that as well as his class warfare campaign. This is his inner Reverend Wright calculating things.

RUSH: Operation Wet Diaper.
