<\/p>\nRUSH: Now, as to the actual events, one was the biggest softball event, and it was predicted, it was expected. That was Stephanopoulos and the way he soft-gloved Biden the whole time Biden was on. With Trump on NBC, Savannah Guthrie was under a lot of pressure.<\/p>\n

She was under a lot of pressure from NBC and from others in the Drive-By Media to destroy Trump because people in the media were livid that NBC did this in the first place. They were livid that they scheduled Trump for a town hall opposite Biden when Trump had canceled the debate. Trump canceled the second debate because he didn\u2019t trust the debate commission. And, by the way, how did that turn out?<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s Steve Scully, who was, you know, the C-SPAN director of political content, whatever his title is. He goes out there, he just lies about his account on Twitter being hacked when he supposedly sent a question to Scaramucci. Gee, how do I handle this Trump guy? He said, I didn\u2019t send that tweet. My account was hacked.<\/p>\n
Well, it turns out it wasn\u2019t and he lied about it. Now he\u2019s been suspended. And Trump called that one; so he didn\u2019t want any part of the debates because the debate commission is a fraud. It is not in any way, shape, manner, or form about fairness.<\/p>\n
So Savannah Guthrie had a job. Her job was to do whatever she could to destroy Trump, to belittle him, to disrespect him, to not give him a chance to answer in any way, shape, manner, or form. To ask the most ridiculous questions. And she came through.<\/p>\n
(imitating Guthrie) “Mr. President, will you denounce white supremacy?”<\/p>\n
“I have! How many times do you want me -”<\/p>\n
“Yes, but it seems so difficult for you, it seems so hard for you Mr. President, to denounce -”<\/p>\n
“I\u2019ve been denouncing white supremacy since the 1990s, Savannah. I denounced David Duke, I\u2019ve denounced -”<\/p>\n
“Yes, but it seems so hard for you to do.”<\/p>\n

Anyway, it ended up with a debate between Savannah Guthrie and Trump. Trump was much more prepared for this one than he was the first debate with Biden. I think here the moderator of the town hall — this is Savannah Guthrie — asked Trump 43 questions, interrupted left and right, and dominated the first 24 minutes. They had some voters on that also asked Trump questions, and it was amazing. Those were pretty qualified voters. They were pretty qualified, pretty informed.<\/p>\n
I had no problem with the voters that NBC chose. But the New York Times even reported before the debate that she was under enormous pressure to make the night a nightmare for Trump because they were livid at NBC for giving him the forum in the first place. So they were gonna have to make Trump pay. And I don\u2019t think she succeeded. I don\u2019t think she made it a nightmare for Trump. I think that he shined. I think he came through with flying colors, given what he was up against.<\/p>\n
You know, you watch these things, you keep hoping, “Don\u2019t lose your cool, Mr. President. Don\u2019t take the bait, Mr. President. Don\u2019t lose your composure. Sit there, maintain your posture, whatever your posture is at the outset of the show on that stool you\u2019re sitting on, maintain that.” And he did. The voters who asked questions of Trump — they were good questions. They were well asked. Everybody on that NBC town hall looked great. The questions from Savannah Guthrie were embarrassing. They were just duds. She was a dud. It was obvious she was there for one reason, and that was to prove herself to her peers in the media.<\/p>\n
But the actual town hall part of it was really good. The debate part, which there should not have been, but of course there was always going to be, the debate part with Savannah Guthrie, that was kind of nerve-wracking, and it\u2019s frustrating, and it\u2019s irritating.<\/p>\n
“Mr. President, will you denounce QAnon?” He doesn\u2019t know — you know, here\u2019s the thing about Donald Trump that they know and they\u2019re able to use this using their vernacular and their terminology, they\u2019re able to entrap him. One thing Donald Trump will not do is criticize excessively — I mean, he won\u2019t go overboard on it — anybody that likes him. I remember watching an interview he did with Charlie Kirk, Turning Point USA. And it was at the White House, and it was about a year ago. It was around Christmastime a year ago.<\/p>\n
And Charlie was asking the president about the youth vote. And he was telling the president, “Yeah, you got some problems with the youth vote. We\u2019ve gotta go out — and how would you say to the youth of America this and that.” And Trump refused to accept the premise. “No, no, no, no. We\u2019re doing great with the youth. No, no, no, no, no. We\u2019re doing great with the youth.” He didn\u2019t want to hear anything negative because he knew that somewhere in the American youth population he\u2019s got support. And that\u2019s what he wanted to focus on.<\/p>\n
And they know this about him, and so they come up with these wacko groups here — this is the root of the Charlottesville business. The root of the Charlottesville lie that Trump said there are great people among the white supremacists and great people among whatever it is that they try to tar and feather him with, it\u2019s rooted in the fact that Trump just has a — I don\u2019t know if you call it loyalty or whatever. He just has problem being critical of groups that he\u2019s not even heard of who he thinks support him.<\/p>\n

He doesn\u2019t want to make \u2019em mad, doesn\u2019t want to tick them off, doesn\u2019t want to disrespect them. I frankly don\u2019t think he knows what QAnon is. I don\u2019t know how many people do know what QAnon is. The left\u2019s version of what QAnon is is absurd. Well, their version of QAnon is that it\u2019s a conspiracy theory about child pedophilia rings being run out of pizza shop in Washington. That\u2019s what they think QAnon is.<\/p>\n
So they think if they can get Trump to say that he don\u2019t have a problem with QAnon they can get him to say that he supports child pedophilia rings out of a pizza shop in Washington. It\u2019s just childish. It\u2019s beneath everybody\u2019s dignity here. But this is what Savannah Guthrie\u2019s job was last night, to tar and feather and destroy Trump as best she could.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Savannah Guthrie was also very, very weak… I\u2019m sure this was a moment that she thought she was gonna destroy Trump. You know, these people all think that if they can somehow unearth some data about Trump\u2019s finances, then they can eliminate him right then, that night. They are convinced that Trump is lying about his money, lying about his estate, lying about how he\u2019s earned it.<\/p>\n
And because of this, her most embarrassing moment of the night was when she started questioning Trump about his debt. Now, every year, Trump and other candidates\u2019 outstanding financial liabilities or debts, they get reported in financial foreclosures that are publicly available for review. It\u2019s part of politics. They can\u2019t hide it. They don\u2019t hide it.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not something that she found that nobody else knows.<\/p>\n
Every bank, every lender is explicitly listed in Trump\u2019s disclosures — and this is the thing: None of them are Russian! They just can\u2019t get beyond that. They have been convinced since before… You know, they wanted Trump\u2019s tax returns and they wanted Trump\u2019s financial records, \u2019cause they were convinced that those records and tax returns proved that Trump had ties with Putin.<\/p>\n
That it was the Russians that were propping Trump up — and what his financial disclosure forms indicate is that most of Trump\u2019s debt is handled by Deutsche Bank. So two days before this debate last night, the New York Times ran a story debunking the idea that Trump\u2019s debt is a mystery. But she apparently missed the story. Trump has, I think, $400 million in debt.<\/p>\n

And to a female journalist working on the Today show who might make — I don\u2019t know what they make, four or five million a year, “$400 million! Wow, that — that is irresponsible! That\u2019s unbelievable. That\u2019s got to be a crime somewhere.” They don\u2019t have any idea; $400 million in debt is not much when you own billions and billions and billions of dollars\u2019 worth of real estate, as Trump kept trying to point out.<\/p>\n
Trump kept saying, “They\u2019re called ‘mortgages,\u2019 Savannah.” They\u2019re mortgages. It\u2019s real estate. You might have one on your house, or your condo, or wherever you live. This kind of debt in Trump\u2019s league is not evidence of crime. It\u2019s not evidence of malfeasance. The New York Times did the story two days prior debunking this whole line of thought.<\/p>\n
And as Trump said, what the numbers show is that Trump is indeed underleveraged, not overleveraged. He\u2019s underleveraged. The amount of debt that he\u2019s carrying based on his asset side of the ledger is underleveraged. That was a bomb for them. In terms of how many people understand that you don\u2019t know, because it\u2019s high finance.<\/p>\n
And there aren\u2019t very many people in Donald Trump\u2019s league. There aren\u2019t very many people that own billions and billions and billions and billions and billions of dollars in real estate. But $400 million in mortgage debt among billions and billions and billions and billions and billions of dollars in real estate holdings is not a big a deal.<\/p>\n
So that was a bomb-out. You know what was weak? She doesn\u2019t know this stuff, and she\u2019s a journalist. She\u2019s got one of the most important gigs in American journalism, the Today show — and to be ignorant about how these kind of things work, and to have the ignorance rooted in hatred for the guy you\u2019re talking to is even worse.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hi, Rush. Yada dittos. I want to tell you I watched the Trump debate with Savannah Guthrie, which Snerdley actually told me it wasn\u2019t a debate, it was a town hall, but in my mind it was more of a debate with Savannah Guthrie —<\/p>\n
RUSH: I know what you mean. The first 24 minutes of it were a debate. Absolutely.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Absolutely. And then after that was done, I switched over and watched the last of the town hall, the sleepy time town hall I should say, with Joe. I caught the last couple questions, and I couldn\u2019t believe it. It was like going from watching WWE and having grandpa walk in the room and turn it to PGA. It was terrible. But anyways, getting back to Trump, I thought Trump really nailed it. I think he held his own against Savannah. I was really, really worried when I heard it was Savannah Guthrie that was gonna be hosting this. I thought, oh, boy, we\u2019re in for it now, but I gotta say, Trump was —<\/p>\n
RUSH: Now, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Why were you worried about Savannah Guthrie?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Well, I mean, my wife used to watch her on the morning show and quit watching because of her. My wife couldn\u2019t stand the NBC morning show anymore, mainly because of her. I mean, she has been so severely left and crazy, it\u2019s just there\u2019s no —<\/p>\n
RUSH: Well, I mean that\u2019s true. She used to be White House correspondent for NBC News. This is the route.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Yeah.<\/p>\n
RUSH: They lie to so many women when they hire \u2019em at NBC. They hire \u2019em, say, we\u2019re gonna give you this, we\u2019re gonna give you that, and you could someday be on the Today Show. And they end up baking cakes on MSNBC\u2019s breakfast show. And they never get in the closer to the Today Show.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Right. But, yeah, that\u2019s what it comes down to for me is, you know, I really thought he held his own and really gave her one-two punches right back and put a stop to her. I wish the debate, the actual debate would have gone like that with Joe, you know, a couple of weeks ago. But this was —<\/p>\n
RUSH: What do you think was going on with that? What do you think Trump was trying to do in that debate? Did you like his performance that night?<\/p>\n
CALLER: I liked his performance. My problem with it was is that, you know, I was already — I\u2019ve been decided since 2016 — ah, I shouldn\u2019t say that. I was decided probably since 2018 that he was gonna get reelected. Just as far as getting my vote again, 2018 easily. You know, I was originally a Ted Cruz supporter, and I gotta say I was really happy with the way Trump was doing what he was saying and making everything, you know, be what it should be.<\/p>\n
