RUSH: We\u2019re gonna start in Hillsdale, Michigan, with Sonny and great to have you here, you\u2019re up first on the EIB Network today. Hi.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, thank you so much. I\u2019m a junior at Hillsdale College.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Wow. Wow.<\/p>\n

CALLER: And we appreciate all of your support.<\/p>\n

RUSH: An actual educated college student.<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s correct. Well, thank you so much. I just wanted to comment on your piece on Fred Upton yesterday.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019m actually from St. Joe, Michigan, where Fred\u2019s from, and I\u2019ve been a constituent for, you know, all my 21 years. He actually helped me get adopted, so I know him pretty well, but, you know, I just want to say, \u2019cause Fred is no Democrat. He has been against cap and trade from the beginning. He proposed lots of spending cuts, too. His first task is repeal Obamacare, and he votes with the GOP more times than most members of our congressional delegation, and he actually has a ‘Stop Pelosi\u2019 bumper sticker on his car, too. But he\u2019s worked hard to get others elected, other Republicans elected, especially this past election cycle, and, you know, as basically the Cal Ripken of Congress, you know, he missed I think one vote last year and hasn\u2019t missed a vote yet. There\u2019s so many different votes to look at over his 20 years in Congress, but you can find, you know, a number of things, I guess. But he\u2019s never been about attacking another Republican because even in the primary, especially when there are a lot of people attacking his votes and his solid voting record, he never has tried to characterize another Republican in a bad light. He followed Reagan\u2019s Eleventh Commandment, I think. And it\u2019s sad that there are so many people that are attacking what he\u2019s done and how he\u2019s helped.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Wait, just a second. There are so many people attacking what he\u2019s done?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right. Hm-hm.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, from the way you\u2019ve described it there\u2019s no reason to attack him, yet there are a lot of people who are. Why are they?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right. It seems like it\u2019s because they aren\u2019t looking at the bigger picture, and also —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Do you agree with the incandescent lightbulb ban? I\u2019m telling you, I don\u2019t care about cap and trade, but accepting the premise that our lightbulbs are destroying the climate bothers me —<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay.<\/p>\n

RUSH: — because it\u2019s a foundation to go off the reservation a whole lot of other ways.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hm-hm, well, you know, it seems like there are other Republicans that are vying for that spot that are trying to bash his record but at the end of the day, you know, Fred\u2019s really committed — you know, I\u2019ve seen him so many different times, he\u2019s really committed to both repealing Obamacare especially, and then also looking out for everyone\u2019s interests in terms of helping to promote less government —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Look, you have a personal connection to Congressman Upton, and I\u2019m not in any way, shape, manner, or form gonna get in the way of that, and your personal attachment to him is wonderful. I\u2019m very happy that you like him, but when you start talking about banning lightbulbs and the premise behind banning certain lightbulbs and partnering with a Democrat to do this and looking out for everybody\u2019s interests, that\u2019s not promoting less government. It\u2019s the exact opposite of promoting less government. The government ought to have not a damn thing to say about the lightbulb I buy. It\u2019s none of their business, especially when this is based on a total, freaking hoax. And if we\u2019re not gonna have a committee chairman smart enough to understand that, I\u2019m sorry, it just bothers me. A lot of things are bothering me today, but that\u2019s not less government. They have no business whether I buy a Big Mac, nobody\u2019s business how many calories are in it, nobody\u2019s business whether there\u2019s food justice or what the hell, what kind of toys are in a Big Mac Happy Meal. These people are an order of fries short of a Happy Meal, as far as I\u2019m concerned, and they got no business telling me what kind of lightbulb I can and can\u2019t have and when I can turn the damn thing on and off, but they sure want that power.<\/p>\n

CALLER: If you look at the facts and what Fred\u2019s committed to doing as chairman, you can see that he is a hundred percent on board with advancing the Pledge to America that the Republicans have crafted to get our country back on track, frankly, and I just don\u2019t see —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, I hate to interrupt you here because I\u2019m way over time now, but I\u2019m glad you called. I appreciate it. I don\u2019t mean to get mad at you. It\u2019s just one of those days.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: I got a bunch of e-mails: ‘Why were you so mean to the college student?\u2019 I wasn\u2019t mean to the college student. Look, folks, we all have bad days. I\u2019m on a razor thin trigger here today. We all have these things that bug us beneath the surface. Some days we\u2019re able to forget them, just shove them aside, they don\u2019t get to the conscious level, but for some reason these protests over in the UK, these longhaired, maggot-infested, dope-smoking, worthless students caterwauling about tuition increases (crying) has just taken me beyond the boiling point here of everybody in the world wanting something for nothing. Well, not everybody, but so many wanting something for nothing and expecting something for nothing. The concept of paying for what you have seems to escape all kinds of people. We all have pet peeves. This is more than a pet peeve of mine, and today it\u2019s just hit me. So I\u2019m already irritated and agitated. I feel like I\u2019ve been worked over by a community organizer. And then I have to hear about how the guy who wants to ban lightbulbs is not a big government guy, and I\u2019m saying, ‘Sorry, that doesn\u2019t compute to me.\u2019 <\/p>\n

Now, one of the first things the Democrat Congress did when they were sworn in and took the oath in 2007 was this lightbulb ban. So I think symbolically one of the first things we ought to do is repeal it, repeal this lightbulb ban. This is not the business of government, especially with all this predicated on a hoax, an utter hoax, man-made global warming. It insults my intelligence that so many people can be made to believe that lightbulbs could destroy or irreparably harm something as complex and out of our control as the climate! I don\u2019t care if there are billions of lightbulbs all at the same time. I don\u2019t care, it\u2019s not a factor, for crying out loud. We got a missile we can\u2019t even figure out what it was, we can\u2019t figure out where it came from, and they\u2019re telling us not to worry about it even though they don\u2019t have the slightest clue what it is. The bottom line is they do know what it is and they don\u2019t think we can handle being told what it is. They know what it is. <\/p>\n

For crying out loud, we got satellites all over the world to pinpoint this kind of thing. And now we\u2019ve got the stupid TSA, Big Sis, all these radiation and crotch grabs, people wearing latex gloves for cavity searches now for people getting on airplanes under the guise of preventing terrorism and so forth. I mean no matter where you look these incompetent SOBs are trying to take over every aspect of our lives. And the pilots, you know, it\u2019s very seldom I side with unions, but the pilots here are saying, ‘We object to this. You\u2019re not gonna subject us to this kind of radiation, this kind of search every time we\u2019re gonna pilot around the country.\u2019 And the flight attendants, they\u2019re upset because in some cases I have heard that the flight attendants are being made to raise their skirts in front of people while these searches are taking place. Now, back in the old days that woulda been okay, but today you don\u2019t want to see that.
