From the Washington Post: ‘The nation\u2019s largest federal workers union is taking to the airwaves to defend rank-and-file federal workers against growing anti-government sentiments. The American Federation of Government Employees plans to spend about $200,000 to air a 60-second radio ad in more than 30 markets, including Washington and several Southern cities, a spokeswoman said. The ad features AFGE President John Gage and workers from the Bureau of Prisons, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Social Security Administration, who tell listeners to ‘trust\u2019 them as they carry out their work. … And a VA registered nurse says: ‘I care for veterans like family.\u2019 <\/p>\n

‘You can trust us. We work for you,\u2019 Gage says at the end. ‘We want people to know what those irresponsible ploys really mean,\u2019 Gage said in a statement announcing the ad buy. ‘They mean reductions in Social Security for our seniors. They mean reduced services for our veterans. And, they mean fewer guards at our federal prisons. The men and women of the federal service are not nameless, faceless bureaucrats. They\u2019re what hold our nation together.” Uhhh. Okay. So that\u2019s a radio ad coming. We have, by the way, ladies and gentlemen, been made aware of a White House joint effort. <\/p>\n

RUSH: We thought we\u2019d do our own commercial, thinking we wouldn\u2019t be part of the buy by the American Federation of Government Employees. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Hello, Rush.<\/p>\n

RUSH: How you doing, Don?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hey, I\u2019m doing all right. How you doing?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Very well, sir, you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: The only comment I had on this particular instance was that the one guaranteed result that I see out of federal employees that the manufactured product is more and more federal employees based upon their interpretation of their guidelines and statutes — oh, wait a minute. Now they\u2019re interpreting statutes. Oops.<\/p>\n

RUSH: So you think that the biggest manufactured product of federal employees is more federal employees?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, basically I agree with you in one aspect, that I don\u2019t see any other actual product.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, yeah. The Chevy Volt. I goofed up on this, too, yesterday.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I agree with you on that, too, but the main thing that I see and let\u2019s see, I\u2019m 50 years old, retired, union labor worker, blah, blah, blah, blah.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Wow. How\u2019s the pension working out?<\/p>\n

CALLER: All I ever saw out of government was, ‘Oh, oh, no, no, you can\u2019t do that, you qualify — oh, you own a real car? Oh, no, you can\u2019t get that.\u2019<\/p>\n

RUSH: I understand, but I can\u2019t relate to it. I\u2019ve never gone to the government for a car, or anything else. Driver\u2019s license, passport, yeah, yeah, yeah, but nothing else. It can\u2019t be fun. It can\u2019t be fun to have to go to the government to get what you need, to go to the government to get what you want, it can\u2019t be fun. But people have been conditioned to do it because there\u2019s nowhere else that they can go. <\/p>\n

RUSH: So I checked the e-mail during the break, and people are thinking I missed it. He said he\u2019s union and 50 and retired. I didn\u2019t miss it. I just wanted to focus on something else that he said. I wasn\u2019t shocked by it. Why is anybody surprised by that? To me that\u2019s nothing out of the ordinary. Fifty, union, retired.
