RUSH: Oh, do you know what I heard right before the program started? This is another great illustration of a point that I\u2019ve been making for I don\u2019t know how long. A quarterback in the National Football League — and I didn\u2019t see it. It was not videotaped so I don\u2019t know who it was. But a current quarterback in the NFL actually said, “Look, I don\u2019t want to get political, but I would like to get back to work.”<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Now, when the hell did going to work become political? Right now — right here, right now — and who has made this possible? Joe Biden<\/a> and the Democrat Party, all these mask-wearing freaks demanding that you use the symbol of fear, demanding that everybody wear the symbol of fear. I know why some people believe in masks, and it\u2019s because of the success that we\u2019ve had at grocery stores.<\/p>\n

You know, from the beginning of this, people have been able to go to the grocery store, and there has not been the widespread infections of coronavirus in grocery stores. People had to go there, and they had to go to pharmacies, and there hasn\u2019t been a lot of infection spread. So those people in the grocery stores were all wearing masks and gloves and so the theory is that wearing the mask, wearing the gloves helped stop the spread. So if it worked in grocery stores, why not elsewhere?<\/p>\n

But that\u2019s not the point, because that\u2019s not the motivation behind the Democrats and their demand for masks. Their demand for masks is political. Everything is political. They hope to capitalize on the image they\u2019re creating that we\u2019re all about to die — that we\u2019re all very, very near being wiped out — and only those who wear masks are gonna be safe and only Democrats advocating the wearing of masks care about people.<\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t wear a mask, then you don\u2019t care.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s kind of like the old red AIDS ribbon. You put the AIDS ribbon on, and what does it say? Nothing! It says, “I\u2019m better than you; I care. You don\u2019t care because you\u2019re not wearing this ribbon. This red ribbon makes me a better person than you!” Well, that\u2019s how they\u2019re using the mask now, and it\u2019s gotten to the point where an NFL quarterback says, “I don\u2019t want to get political, but I\u2019d kind of like to go back to work.”<\/p>\n

Speaking of this — let me find this very quickly — the North Carolina governor has changed his thinking on the mask, and it is noteworthy. Be patient with me as I go through the Stacks here, because… (shuffling papers) This is typical. You know, I think I\u2019ll get to it in the third hour, so I put it near the bottom, and that means I\u2019ve gotta go through most of the Stack to find it.<\/p>\n

I may even be looking in the wrong stack, but I\u2019m gonna find before I move on and forget it. (shuffling papers) But it\u2019s classic about how they\u2019re changing their motivation behind the mask, what the purpose of the mask is and what it says about you if you don\u2019t… Well, I can\u2019t find it. That\u2019s also very, very typical. But it\u2019s essentially the mask isn\u2019t about safety now. The governor of North Carolina has made it clear: The mask isn\u2019t about safety.<\/a><\/p>\n

It\u2019s about showing that you care. It\u2019s about showing that you have compassion. It\u2019s about showing that you don\u2019t want to infect other people. It\u2019s about showing that you are a good person. And, remember, this is such a classic, classic way liberals achieve their supposed superiority over people. I\u2019ve always said, liberalism is the most gutless choice you can make because it never requires you to solve anything.<\/p>\n

All you have to do is notice suffering here, misfortune over there, and point it out. And that makes you a good person. That makes you a compassionate person. And you\u2019ll run around, you\u2019ll get awards from people for caring. And that is exactly how — the mask and some of the other things — the left is now attempting to maintain their moral superiority when they have none, and it\u2019s also a way…<\/p>\n

This NFL quarterback, “Look, I don\u2019t want to get political, but I kind of like…” This guy\u2019s afraid to say who wants to go to work! He\u2019s afraid of what\u2019s gonna happen, and what is he afraid of? He\u2019s afraid of Twitter. He\u2019s afraid of social media. He\u2019s afraid of what\u2019s gonna be said about him on social media.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Here, I found a Roy Cooper tweet, Governor Roy Cooper of North Carolina. Unmasking. Remember, the mask, that\u2019s supposed to make us safe. Keep everybody safe. Keep you from infecting anybody and to keep you from getting infected. Well, let\u2019s see. Yesterday governor Cooper tweeted the following: “A face covering signifies strength and compassion for others. Wearing a mask shows that you actually care about other people\u2019s health.”<\/p>\n

I mean, this is right out of the AIDS red ribbon handbook. So now we\u2019re not wearing masks to stay healthy. We wear them as a symbol of “strength and compassion.” The problem with that is when the standard-bearer and the titular head of your party is Joe Biden, there is no way that Plugs is a symbol of strength or anything else looking like the idiot he is wearing that mask.<\/p>\n

This is virtue signaling.<\/p>\n
