RUSH: This is hilarious, on MSNBC, on a show hosted by F. Chuck Todd and Savannah Guthrie, they dragged out from the wax museum Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky. Now, the name Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky might not mean anything to you. If it doesn\u2019t, here\u2019s a brief bio: Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky used to be a TV anchor in Philadelphia. She then ran for Congress as a Democrat. During the first Clinton budget she was the lone holdout on the Democrat side to put the Democrats over the top and pass the Clinton budget. <\/p>\n

They delayed the vote one hour beyond when it was scheduled to be stopped. She was personally lobbied by the Clinton administration, and Clinton himself. She caved inside of an hour. She switched her vote, voted ‘yes\u2019 on a budget, and it passed. She then got creamed in her next election. She was voted out of office in almost a landslide — in Philadelphia! A Democrat place if there ever was one. So they dragged Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky back out on MSNBC today and do you know what the point was for her being there? She was actually saying she was there to have a message for Democrat members of the House who are really worried about their future if they vote ‘yes\u2019 on the health care bill. She said, ‘Listen to me and my story. I am living proof that there is life after Congress. In fact, my life became more prosperous than ever when I left Congress.\u2019 <\/p>\n

So she\u2019s up there on Mess NBC today with a message Democrats: ‘Hey, life\u2019s only going to get better! Life doesn\u2019t end when you leave Congress. Why, for me it got a hell of a lot better: I\u2019m richer, I\u2019m happier, my son\u2019s marrying Hillary Clinton\u2019s daughter.\u2019 That\u2019s Mark Margolies-Mezvinsky. That\u2019s true. Chelsea Clinton is engaged. They\u2019re getting married sometime in July. Nobody knows where or when, specifically, but, yeah. I mean, that… (laughing) I don\u2019t know what that deal was back in 1993, \u201994, but her son is now marrying Chelsea Clinton. She\u2019s on television, ‘Oh, there\u2019s life after Congress!\u2019 In other words: ‘Go ahead, commit suicide. There is an afterlife — and in my case it\u2019s even better than it was in Congress. There\u2019s certainly more to life than Congress.\u2019 I\u2019m just telling you: If they\u2019re dragging her out to go on TV to say this to Democrats in the House, it\u2019s just further evidence they\u2019re not that close on the vote. They just aren\u2019t. They\u2019re nowhere near it. <\/p>\n

I\u2019ve often said that Obama is not grounded in reality, that Obama tells himself lies about himself, about his circumstances, about his situation; that he\u2019s very, very odd in this way. From the UK Telegraph (I have the story right here in my formerly nicotine-stained fingers): Obama has issued a threat: Any Democrat who does not vote for his health care bill will not receive a campaign visit by Obama. That\u2019s a threat. He\u2019s actually threatening them. ‘Barack Obama has said he will not campaign for any Democratic congressmen who fails to support health care reform. [He] will refuse to make fund-raising visits during November elections to any district whose representative has not backed the bill.\u2019 He will not help you if you vote against the bill. Well, the reality is this is music to their ears. Obama coming in, especially in November if this thing passes, is as big a death knell as voting for it. <\/p>\n

I mean, this is a double whammy. They need to bring Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky back and say, ‘There is life after Congress, and there is life after the president doesn\u2019t come in to campaign for you.\u2019 (laughing) Can you say Virginia? Can you say New Jersey? Can you say Massachusetts? Everywhere he goes! Take any team Obama picks to win. They lose. That\u2019s how I knew that the US hockey team had no prayer in the Olympics. They had no prayer, \u2019cause Obama picked \u2019em. Whoever he picks to win it all in the Final Four, the March Madness, they\u2019re doomed. He\u2019s worse than the jinx of being on the cover of Sports Illustrated! He better not welcome Tiger Woods back. He\u2019d better not say, ‘Tiger, we hope you pull it out. Tiger, we hope that you win in Augusta,\u2019 because if he does that, they\u2019ll have to put all the pancake waitresses and pole darkness on red alert. <\/p>\n

So Obama threatening not to campaign for these guys is music to their ears. Most people don\u2019t want him there. In fact, Obama went to St. Louis last week and a whole lot of local Democrats didn\u2019t show up. They didn\u2019t want to be there. Why do you think Evan Bayh quit the Senate? It\u2019s not because of ‘too much partisanship\u2019 and all that. It\u2019s because, ladies and gentlemen, if he wants to run for office — national office, president, whatever — he\u2019s gotta distance himself from the Obama agenda and he\u2019s been voting for it down the line. This guy is so unpopular that being anywhere near his agenda is a death knell. So big threats, big threats from President Obama to members of his own party. Proving, once again, this is all about him. It isn\u2019t about health care.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Here\u2019s Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky, and this is this morning with Mess NBC and Savannah Guthrie along with F. Chuck Todd. And Chuck said, ‘There are about 37 ‘no\u2019 votes that the White House is trying to switch. Some of these House Democrats, they voted ‘no,\u2019 now they\u2019re tried to be convinced to a ‘yes.\u2019 What advice do you, Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky, have for them? You didn\u2019t survive. What about the politics of this? What advice can you give them?\u2019<\/p>\n

MARGOLIES-MEZVINSKY: People don\u2019t call into your office if they like what you are doing. They call into your office when they say don\u2019t go for it, so don\u2019t listen to that. You\u2019re a change agent, listen to the Pericleses of the world who say go down there to lead and not to be led. Now, having said that, it\u2019s coming from me, I wasn\u2019t a good politician. I did a drive-by. I think that we\u2019ve gotta stop telling people what they want to hear, we\u2019ve gotta tell them what they need to hear. We are sucking our children and our grandchildren with a debt, and the deficit, that they cannot handle. <\/p>\n

TODD: Right. <\/p>\n

MARGOLIES-MEZVINSKY: But once again, I didn\u2019t last very long. <\/p>\n

GUTHRIE: Well, you\u2019ve proven there is life after Congress…<\/p>\n

TODD: That\u2019s right.<\/p>\n

MARGOLIES-MEZVINSKY: Well, there is.<\/p>\n

GUTHRIE: …and we really appreciate getting your perspective. <\/p>\n
