Elwood, great to have you on the program. Hello.<\/p>\n<p>CALLER: Hello, sir. Good to be with you. I\u2019m glad Scott called. It seems like you\u2019re being inundated with negativity today and my call\u2019s the same. I wanted to offer something a little positive to you if I could.<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: Fire away, sir.<\/p>\n<p>CALLER: That would be me, sir. My daughter\u2019s 15 years old. About six years ago she began asking political questions. I made a pact with myself when she was born that I\u2019d tell her nothing but the truth and let her make her own decisions. I drive a lot in my work, so I\u2019m scanning the radio dial trying to find it, and son of a gun, it wasn\u2019t there. You and I are the same age, and, like you, I had a Remco Caravelle. My father was in broadcasting his whole life and he gave it to me.<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: No kidding. You had a Remco Caravelle, too?<\/p>\n<p>CALLER: Oh, yeah. The little blue thing? Yeah. I didn\u2019t go into broadcasting, went into engineering. You know, if you beef up with the output circuitry on those you can get a lot farther than 500 feet.<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: Well, see, I would have loved to have done that. I didn\u2019t know how to do that.<\/p>\n<p>CALLER: But because of that I remembered an archaic form of radio transmission called amplitude modulation and found you about six years ago. I\u2019ve been very positive and happy ever since, and I just wanted to call and thank you for what you do and let you know that I\u2019m raising probably what is to liberals the most dangerous life form on the planet. That is a Rush teenager.<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: Thank you very much.<\/p>\n<p>CALLER: And you have Antonio\u2019s phone number just pass it on. Maybe they can get a date.<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: (chuckling) Thanks for the call out there, Elwood. I appreciate it. Remco Caravelle! My parents gave me one. We\u2019ve got one back there in the storeroom. I ought to bring it out and show on the Dittocam. Not time enough to do it today, Ryan, but this thing, you could broadcast on any AM frequency. That\u2019s what amplitude modulation is, by the way. Voltage modulation is what amplitude is, versus FM. You modulate with the signal carrier with frequency, as opposed to voltage, AM and FM. That\u2019s what he was talking about. This thing, you could broadcast around, you know, 150 feet inside your home on any frequency you selected. And it was crude and so forth, but I\u2019d put my record player next to the thing, had a remote microphone, and I\u2019d hold the microphone down to the turntable speaker whenever it was time to play the music. I couldn\u2019t say anything. But played deejay, pretended to call baseball games and my mom and dad would sit down there and actually listen to do so even though it was horrible sound on the radio, but it was still fun to do. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RUSH: This is Elwood in Jackson, Mississippi.
