RUSH: I have some hilarious pieces. I\u2019ve got my own State of Obama stack in the monologue segment of the next hour. I\u2019m going to show you and illustrate for you the various pieces of advice Obama is getting on what he should do. For example, somebody at the Politico staff: ‘Democrats Differ on Advice for Speech. They asked Democrats on Capitol Hill and in statehouses around the country what they want to hear from Obama Wednesday. Here is what they said. Number one: Show your anger. Number two: talk about jobs. Number three: make a decision on health care. Number four: bash Wall Street. And number five: keep blaming Republicans.\u2019 Now, that is the recipe of a bunch of anti-liberty ideologies, ladies and gentlemen, blame Republicans, show your anger. My God, you people have done the best job of showing your anger of any political party I have ever witnessed. Talk about jobs? Well, he\u2019s had job summits, he\u2019s had the stimulus package; what more do you want? Bash Wall Street. He doesn\u2019t need advice to do that. He\u2019s doing it. And keep blaming Republicans? It\u2019s part of Obama\u2019s natural existence, blame Bush. These people are getting exactly what they want and they\u2019re still not happy.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, well, well! Evan Thomas is pretending to be surprised that Obama is a liar. Remember Obama was ‘godlike\u2019? He\u2019s godlike! In fact, let\u2019s play number 18 first. This is November 5th of 2008 on the Charlie Rose Show, and this is Evan Thomas having an exchange with the managing editor Jon Meacham about the election and President-elect Obama.<\/p>\n

MEACHAM: He\u2019s very elusive, Obama, which is fascinating for a man who\u2019s written two memoirs. At Grant Park he walks out with the family, and then they go away. <\/p>\n

ROSE: Mmm. Mmm-hmm.<\/p>\n

MEACHAM: Biden\u2019s back, you know, locked in the bar or something. <\/p>\n

ROSE: (haughty chuckle)<\/p>\n

MEACHAM: You know, they don\u2019t let him out. And have you ever seen a victory speech where there was no one else on stage? <\/p>\n

ROSE: Mmm.<\/p>\n

MEACHAM: No adoring wife, no cute kid. He is the messenger.<\/p>\n

THOMAS: There is a slightly creepy cult of personality about all this. I mean, he\u2019s such an admirable —<\/p>\n

ROSE: Slightly. Creepy. Cult of personality.<\/p>\n

THOMAS: Yes.<\/p>\n

ROSE: What\u2019s ‘slightly creepy\u2019 about it?<\/p>\n

THOMAS: It — it — it just makes me a little uneasy that he\u2019s so singular. He\u2019s clearly managing his own spectacle. He\u2019s a deeply manipulative guy.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s Evan Thomas, and he also called him ‘godlike\u2019 at one point. So Sunday morning local Washington TV on the program Inside Washington, Evan Thomas had this to say a little over a year later about Obama.<\/p>\n

THOMAS: The chance Obama missed… He really had a chance. A lot of people (are) saying, ‘Okay, you\u2019re going to change government.\u2019 He was not fundamentally honest. What caught him up I think was his dishonesty. He didn\u2019t level with the American people. Even those who are not politically engaged smelled dishonesty and a rat, and their reaction to it is to go two parties and, you know, vote for Brown.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Oh, ‘he wasn\u2019t fundamentally honest\u2019? How come all of us conservatives could see that from day one even in the middle of the campaign and these people do not see it until it\u2019s a year too late? <\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Now, advice for Obama and the State of Obama speech tonight: Here\u2019s former labor secretary Robert B. Reichhhh-uh! He was on MSNBC this afternoon, and he\u2019s advising the exact opposite of what you just heard me suggest. The infobabe Chris Jansing spoke with Secretary Reich and said, ‘You suggest the president should propose a WPA-style jobs program. But the American people suggested they don\u2019t want maybe the government taking control of everything. There are concerns about the growing deficit. So how much can the government really do? How far can the step into the fray?\u2019<\/p>\n

REICH: Government in terms of the economy ask and can do quite a lot, Chris, I mean the Federal Reserve Board in its policies over the last year has done more than the Fed has done in living memory. Look, we are in a society. I mean, we can\u2019t turn against government; that\u2019s like turning against society. People may not like ‘bureaucrats,\u2019 as they call them, people may not like complicated red tape. But in the last resort we\u2019re all in this together and so the president\u2019s gotta make a very strong argument for why, in a time of stress, we do need to come together and government is what we have and what we need.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I so hope he listeners to foreman Labor Secretary Reichhhh. I really do. More government. That\u2019s what we need, more government. And let\u2019s just continue on this theme. This is a montage of media people, Chris Matthews; Bob Shrum; F. Chuck Todd; Michael Crowley from the New Republic; and again, Labor Secretary Robert B. Reichhhh-uh.<\/p>\n

MATTHEWS: Does President Obama go left (sic) like Bill Clinton did after losing the House back in 1994?<\/p>\n

SHRUM: If we elect him to be a third term of Bill Clinton.<\/p>\n

TODD: They\u2019re not going to do what they believe Bill Clinton did, which is do a complete 180.<\/p>\n

CROWLEY: We\u2019re seeing the first term of the Clinton presidency being replayed.<\/p>\n

REICH: I worked for Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama is no Bill Clinton.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Ooh! Oooh! There\u2019s conflicting advice there. Some say we are going to get Clinton and some say that we aren\u2019t. And here\u2019s the Ragin\u2019 Cajun, James Carville.<\/p>\n

CARVILLE: You have to put things in context, George. The president has to explain what he took over and what happened. The war in Afghanistan has to be explained, that there was a failure to capture Bin Laden when they had a chance to. President Reagan, if you go back to 1980 in his original State of the Union address, blasted Jimmy Carter (garbled) said before you can ever know what you\u2019re going to do in the future you have to understand the past. Explain what it is that he inherited and to put into context what his program is.<\/line><\/line>RUSH: He can\u2019t. He can\u2019t put into context what his program is because people really wouldn\u2019t accept it — and he\u2019s been bashing Bush! Like a spoiled little kid he\u2019s been bashing Bush, and here is a montage. Obama is announcing a staff shakeup. He\u2019s putting David Plouffe back in there and a bunch of liberals say, ‘It\u2019s a brilliant move! Oh, this is a brilliant, brilliant move.\u2019 Here\u2019s a montage of people.<\/line><\/p>\n

JOHN BERMAN: The President is reassembling the vaunted political team that helped him win the White House and he\u2019s ordered a review of the Democratic Party\u2019s entire political operation. <\/p>\n

DAVID KERLEY: (b-roll) They wanted the best player on the field, and after a lousy week, this is good news for Democrats. <\/p>\n

STEVE MCMAHON: He\u2019s bringing the commander of the ship back for a repeat performance in 2010. <\/p>\n

TAMRON HALL: The White House shakes up the political team.<\/p>\n

LESTER HOLT: (b-roll) President Obama is calling on the team that helped put him in the White House. <\/p>\n

MIKE VIQUEIRA: (b-roll) Mr. Obama is now turning to a proven winner. <\/p>\n

KATE SNOW: He\u2019s shaking things up. Bringing back the team that helped him win the White House. <\/p>\n

RACHEL MARTIN: They\u2019ve recruited a familiar face to get them back on track. <\/p>\n

E.J. DIONNE: The Democrats should have seen this coming and didn\u2019t. That\u2019s why I think they bring back David Plouffe.<\/p>\n

JOHN HARWOOD: It will take all of David Plouffe\u2019s skill to mitigate Democratic losses and keep the Democrats in control of the House and the Senate.<\/p>\n

RUSH: David Plouffe is coming back and they\u2019re excited. They\u2019re excited. But let\u2019s go back, March 28th, 2006. We have a montage of media people reacting to the news that Andy Card was leaving his post at the White House as chief of staff.<\/p>\n

JON SCOTT: Is this a shakeup or is this just rearranging the deck chairs?<\/p>\n

ED HENRY: Like rearranging the deck chairs, not really a major shakeup.<\/p>\n

NORAH O\u2019DONNELL: Simply rearranging the deck chairs.<\/p>\n

STEVE DOOCY: The president of the United States needed to rearrange the chairs.<\/p>\n

JIM VANDEHEI: You\u2019re basically just moving the chairs in different directions.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Is it not uncanny? All of them, every one of them! We have many more than that, we just don\u2019t play them all in the interests of time. They get these faxes and they get these phrases. With Bush it was ‘rearranging the chairs\u2019 on the Titanic. With Obama, ‘It\u2019s a brilliant shakeup! It\u2019s a brilliant thing! It\u2019s right on time,\u2019 blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. By the way, can anybody tell me if those great thinkers at Obama\u2019s jobs forum in December have reported back? Remember that jobs summit at the White House with the work groups and he had a suck-up session there with Thomas Friedman, the foreign policy correspondent for the New York Times? I thought, ‘What does this guy know about job creation?\u2019 Anyway, have they reported back yet? Did they ever report back or are they still in their work groups coming up with plans? Because we haven\u2019t heard any new ideas from Obama about creating jobs, and we sure aren\u2019t going to hear any new ideas tonight. We\u2019re not going to hear anything that would genuinely create jobs. It isn\u2019t going to happen. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Thanks, Rush. Been with you since day one and it just keeps getting better.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you, sir.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hey, with the significant change in direction that Obama\u2019s taking right now, will his demeanor tonight change as much as say like Algore\u2019s did during the election when the polls told him that he needed to find his alpha male and he started using his big boy voice during all the speeches?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Oh, yeah, Naomi Wolf started dressing him.<\/p>\n

CALLER: It was such an obvious put on, fake, you know, will Obama\u2019s change be that obvious tonight in demeanor as well?<\/p>\n

RUSH: It will be interesting to see. I think that they\u2019re probably still stuck on the fact that Obama is magic, and I think they\u2019ll go back to writing words for him to read off the teleprompter. Let me ask you a question. In asking you, I\u2019m going to ask everybody. Can somebody name for me what you remember from George Bush\u2019s last State of the Union speech? Can you tell me anything you remember?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Not really much. You know, I think, you know, the message of —<\/p>\n

RUSH: They\u2019re not memorable. What you remember is the laundry list of giveaways, laundry list of new programs to stop cancer, to heal the environment, a laundry list of new programs, spending freezes, you know —<\/p>\n

CALLER: Where they flashed a camera up to somebody that\u2019s sitting with somebody that\u2019s touching and they have a little back story thing.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah. These are not memorable speeches except to the sycophants who cover them —<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah.<\/p>\n

RUSH: — in the State-Controlled Media. Did you see the story, by the way, goes out to this grade school and —<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah.<\/p>\n

RUSH: — has a teleprompter to talk to the press that\u2019s there? A teleprompter. He had a meeting with his Middle Class Task Force, 20 people, and he had a teleprompter for that, twenty people. So whatever he\u2019s going to say is what the teleprompter tells him to say and whoever is writing what\u2019s on the teleprompter. And my guess is they\u2019ll try to get back to the soaring rhetoric of the campaign. That\u2019s what they did when they sent Obama out to Ohio, Elyria, Ohio, last week.
