CALLER: Hey, Rush. Gotta apologize. I\u2019m a little out of breath; I\u2019m working my butt off here. But I\u2019ve got a question and then I have a request if you have time.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Sure.<\/p>\n
CALLER: My question is: What would you consider your greatest accomplishment?<\/p>\n
RUSH: Ooh. Oh-ho. My greatest accomplishment. Oh, man. I don\u2019t think like that. You know what? You need to get… I would love to answer this, but I need to think about this. Do you have anything in mind? Do you have any multiple-choice options in mind that you are thinking of here that you\u2019re hoping I say is a greatest accomplishment or is your question just open-ended?<\/p>\n
CALLER: I have no idea what it would be. I have no idea. That\u2019s why I asked the question.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, see, when you start talking about accomplishments, working in one radio show for 30 years is unheard of. It\u2019s an accomplishment. Is it the greatest one? I don\u2019t know. You know, surviving eight years in New York is a major achievement. Is it my biggest one? I don\u2019t know. Turning radio prime time from six to 9 a.m. to noon to 3 p.m. Is that a major achievement? Yes.<\/p>\n
Is it the biggest one? I don\u2019t know. Is making a radio show as — if not more –informative and persuasive than TV? That\u2019s big. (interruption) Well, but, see, saving AM radio? That\u2019s for others to determine whether or not that\u2019s true. That… (interruption) What was that? (interruption) Yeah, yeah, I\u2019ve already done… (interruption) Yeah. Those have weighed in. I\u2019ve saved AM radio.<\/p>\n
But that\u2019s… That\u2019s… (mutters) I don\u2019t know. (interruption) Well, could… (interruption) You\u2019re looking… (interruption) See, I\u2019m getting various help here in the IFB. “Whoa. You\u2019ve revolutionized conservative media.” I don\u2019t… You know, when I start thinking about my greatest achievement or accomplishment, that\u2019s the problem. Do I decide to judge this in terms of the business I\u2019m in, which is radio, not politics? Politics is not my business.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t want to make too big a deal out of that, \u2019cause I do not want disappoint a lot of people. But I am in radio. I have specific requirements that have to be met here — and, if they\u2019re not, this show\u2019s not on the air, and you don\u2019t know who I am, whatever my politics are. (sigh) So… The guy\u2019s serious. I can\u2019t just fluff off the answer here. I\u2019ve gotta give it some serious consideration, which I will do.<\/p>\n
BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n
RUSH: Mr. Snerdley told me that our last caller, there\u2019s another part of his question. In addition to the greatest accomplishment, he wants to know what I think I could have done better. Now, that, that I can answer any day of the week, and that\u2019s pretty much everything. You would not believe — well, you probably would.<\/p>\n
I go home every day, and I do a postmortem on this show in my mind. I don\u2019t talk about it with anybody. I just relive it. I think of all the things I could have done differently or better. The great thing is I\u2019ve got tomorrow, the next day, to fix \u2019em, to do it better, so forth. So it never really depresses me or gets me down other than the realization that I could have done it better.<\/p>\n
I think I could have used the time I\u2019ve had a lot better in some instances. I think I\u2019ve squandered a lot of time. But that\u2019s subjective. I look at somebody like William F. Buckley, who I don\u2019t think he squandered a minute of his life. He was — and there are a lot of people like him — just constantly active, out doing things.<\/p>\n

I happen to love being at home. A lot of people hate being at home, but I absolutely love it. I\u2019ve never understood people that spend a lot of time designing or building or whatever they do with their home and the minute it gets done they leave and they\u2019re never there. I\u2019ve never understood that. I love my home. I love being there. Why it exists for me is to be there and to get the most out of it as I can. There\u2019s nowhere I can go, without taking a whole bunch of stuff with me, where I can be as comfortable and productive and happy as I am at home.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ll tell you something else, as far as achievements and so forth. I\u2019m watching this coronavirus thing, and even the media that you would think would be on whatever we would call “our side,” they\u2019ve lost it too. To them, this is nothing more than a story, and they can\u2019t wait. I mean, everybody is waiting for the next worst headline, the next worst scenario, the next worst possibility. They can\u2019t wait for it and they can\u2019t wait to report it, and they can\u2019t wait to talk about it. And that\u2019s not me.<\/p>\n
I resent this. I could never be a journalist. And these people, they\u2019re a pack now. And I don\u2019t care what network you\u2019re talking about or website — there might be some exceptions to websites. Can\u2019t read \u2019em all, don\u2019t know. But you can\u2019t turn on TV without seeing the same thing on any network. It doesn\u2019t matter what network it is during the news coverage portion. Not so much the opinion programs and prime time. But the news coverage portion.<\/p>\n
I mean, it\u2019s now conventional wisdom that the country\u2019s gonna shut down. It\u2019s conventional wisdom that 150 million people are gonna get infected. It\u2019s conventional wisdom that this is deadly, it\u2019s the worst thing that\u2019s ever happened, oh, my God. It\u2019s horrible. It\u2019s worse. And nobody\u2019s ever had it as bad or worse. And everybody gets caught up in it. As I watch the media, I don\u2019t see one doubting Thomas. I don\u2019t know how you do that.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t know how you become a member of the pack. Why would anybody want to become a member of the pack that is no different from anybody else? But that\u2019s what happens with this stuff.
