If I answer it another way, I get accused of not taking it seriously enough. Let me ask you, what do you think of Bill Clinton\u2019s excuse for having the affair with Lewinsky?<\/a> Did you hear what he said?<\/p>\nCALLER: I did not.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Well, I\u2019ll tell you what he said. He said (Clinton impression), “I had bunch of anxiety issues. I had a lot of pressure, you know, big-time pressure being president of the United States, I had to deal with that. So that\u2019s why I had the affair with that woman with whom I didn\u2019t have sex with when she was 19. That\u2019s why I did it.” What do you think of that?<\/p>\n
CALLER: I think it\u2019s crap.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Amen. Of course it\u2019s crap. Stress relief? Ha.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Well, is this just the media stirring it up and scaring the people? Because, you know, out in California they\u2019re talking about letting people telework and —<\/p>\n
RUSH: Your question is actually very good, because if I were a politician, I would answer it one way. I\u2019m not a politician, so I won\u2019t answer it that way. I\u2019m tempted to answer it honestly as I think about it, but then that might be considered to be irresponsible by others because what I say is being heard by millions and millions of people. And so I have to take that into account.<\/p>\n
So I don\u2019t know. I mean, I do know. I\u2019m just trying to figure out how to answer your question. It\u2019s a serious question. You\u2019re asking me if it\u2019s something we should be worried about. Well, yeah, we should be worried about it, but then worried about what? Like how worried are you about it?<\/p>\n

CALLER: To be honest with you, I\u2019m really not because I feel like it\u2019s the media blowing it out of proportion.<\/p>\n
RUSH: All right.<\/p>\n
CALLER: And next week they\u2019ll be on to a new topic of probably something about Trump.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Okay, you\u2019re right. It may not be next week, but we\u2019re gonna get past this. This is gonna end at some point like everything does. This is gonna be over, and we\u2019re gonna on to something else, and your instincts are that whatever it is are gonna be things the media, the Democrats can use to target Trump is probably pretty smart thinking as well. But the specific answer to your question about the virus, if I were to sit here and tell you how I\u2019m dealing with it — even tempting people with that answer I could be skating on what would said to be thin ice here.<\/p>\n
BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n
RUSH: You know, this question, “What do you really think about coronavirus, Rush?” It\u2019s one of these questions, folks, where I may be too famous to answer it. And I could tell you how I look at it. I\u2019ll give you some ways I look at it. You know how many people are killed by the wheel every year? Fifty thousand. That\u2019s the number of people killed by automobile accidents. And that\u2019s the wheel.<\/p>\n
Do we ban the wheel? No. We\u2019ve come to accept it. We\u2019re gonna get in a car, we\u2019re gonna drive or be driven around at excessive speeds and there are gonna be other people doing it. We\u2019re just gonna take a risk that at the time we\u2019re on the roads everybody else is gonna be driving responsibly. Then we find out that even if that\u2019s happening, there are some accidents that take place.<\/p>\n
Death is an amazing thing, folks. It\u2019s something we never think is gonna happen to us. You ever thought about that? It does happen to all of us. But we never think of it. It\u2019s something that happens to other people. You go to the funeral, still not gonna happen to you. It\u2019s an amazing aspect of creation, if you ask me, \u2019cause we\u2019re all born with the incontrovertible evidence and knowledge that we are toast. We just don\u2019t know when. And we go through our lives every day thinking ain\u2019t gonna be us.<\/p>\n

We look for statistical evidence and comfort, we look for common sense comfort, some of us go to extremes in what we eat and how we live to try to avoid tempting fate. And still it happens. You could have a guy who\u2019s never eaten a carbohydrate, who has never had an ounce of adult beverage, gonna be walking by a construction project, and a crane could fall on his head. And he\u2019s mashed flat inside of a split second, never knew what happened to him. And he did everything that they told him to do in The Vegan Times to stay alive.<\/p>\n
We all think it\u2019s gonna happen to others, but it isn\u2019t gonna happen to us. Actually, I have a theory about this too, since you\u2019ve asked. I do believe — and I don\u2019t want to get too deep with this. But I think it\u2019s fascinating. As human beings, and I do believe we are created, I think it\u2019s fascinating that we all know we\u2019re gonna die and yet for most of our lives we never think it\u2019s gonna happen to us. It\u2019s always something that happens to other people.<\/p>\n
And if it weren\u2019t that way, then everybody\u2019d be walking around zombie paranoid. If we weren\u2019t able to pretend that we\u2019re never gonna die, that we\u2019re never gonna croak, that we\u2019re never gonna be toast, if we weren\u2019t able to do that, nobody would amount to anything. But there are some people who are unable to do it. There are some people who are obsessed. They\u2019re not able to look past the fact. They do think they\u2019re gonna die every day. You know who they are? They\u2019re liberals.<\/p>\n
They\u2019re constantly paranoid, and that\u2019s why climate change or take your pick of any issue — oil, fossil fuels, whatever it is –they\u2019re afraid is gonna kill them because they don\u2019t have the ability to turn off this conscious awareness that someday they, too, will be toast. And so then they demand everybody else live the way they think \u2019cause they\u2019re desperately daily trying to avoid it. And they want everybody else to have to avoid it, too, like save the planet, fossil fuels, whatever other cockamamie garbage veganism they want to get into.<\/p>\n
So coronavirus. Okay, 50,000 people are killed by the wheel. What\u2019s the coronavirus death total now, 3,000 some? It\u2019s not even close. Okay. So you look at it statistically. Am I at greater risk getting in my car every day leaving my home or office than the coronavirus? Yeah, you\u2019re at much greater risk. You\u2019re at much greater risk getting in your car than you are getting on an airplane.<\/p>\n
How many people does lightning strike every year get killed? Do you know that? You want to know how many lightning strikes? Six thousand people die every year from lightning strikes in America. Coronavirus death toll right now is 3,500.<\/p>\n
There are some other specifics. Coronavirus happens to attack the lungs. There are a lot of people, we\u2019re told, that have the disease and are showing no symptoms whatsoever \u2019cause they\u2019re healthy. If you already have problems in your lungs, if you\u2019ve had TB, if you\u2019ve had asthma, if you\u2019re young or elderly and you\u2019ve had problems, well, then coronavirus is gonna be a little bit more dangerous to you than somebody who hasn\u2019t experienced illness or problem with their lungs.<\/p>\n
We\u2019re all different. Everybody\u2019s not gonna get coronavirus. And everybody who gets it is not going to get sick the same way others get it. We\u2019re all different. And so me being a nonconformist and somebody that doesn\u2019t follow conventional wisdom, I ignore the hysteria and the panic. There\u2019s another reason I ignore the hysteria and the panic, \u2019cause I understand the media. I understand how the media wants clicks, the media wants ratings, the media wants crisis, the media wants chaos.<\/p>\n
The media needs an ongoing, daily ration of uncertainty and fear. They need it so that people who consume news will keep looking for reasons to no longer be afraid. Looking for the news that the coronavirus has peaked and now we\u2019re on the downhill side of the infections and what have you. People tuning in every day, reading, clicking, hoping to find evidence every day that we can now see the light at the end of the coronavirus tunnel.<\/p>\n
I just, good or bad, I don\u2019t play by the conventional wisdom or conformist rules when it comes to media or worldwide national panic. If you\u2019re gonna get it, you\u2019re gonna get it. If you\u2019re not gonna get it, you\u2019re not gonna get it. If you get it, you hope you don\u2019t become too sick from it. I mean, the flu is killing more people than this thing. You could look at it that way statistically.<\/p>\n
But, see, this is where I\u2019m getting in trouble \u2019cause now there\u2019s gonna be a bunch of liberals who are gonna take what I\u2019ve said out of context, “Limbaugh urging people to ignore coronavirus panic on the basis that he doesn\u2019t care whether they get sick or not.” That\u2019s the kind of thing that they will write and say. And I didn\u2019t say that. Somebody asked me how I\u2019m looking at it. And, folks, I don\u2019t go through life every day thinking I\u2019m gonna die that day, and I don\u2019t try to find evidence that I\u2019m gonna die today. And I resist efforts of people who want me to look at life that way.<\/p>\n

We only get one life, and I don\u2019t think it\u2019s to be squandered. We don\u2019t get a do-over. You do get a do-over every day, so if you screw up one day you\u2019ve got the next day to fix it and the day after that, but you don\u2019t get a do-over on your whole life. And there\u2019s only one of them for each of us. And we all have a degree of freedom and liberty, and you can live it however you want.<\/p>\n
And some people are comforted living in fear. They are comforted. You heard phrase “happily miserable” or “miserably happy.” These are people that need misery in order to be happy. Things are not normal if something isn\u2019t wrong. It takes all kinds. I\u2019m just not one of those. If you are, fine. If that\u2019s how you want to be, it\u2019s your business, not mine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
