How are you, Kate?

CALLER: Well, I’m doing very well, Rush. How are you?

RUSH: Very well. Thank you.

CALLER: It’s so good to talk to you. Hey, listen, I listened to Fox News last week and I heard about Newt Gingrich endorsing that woman, I can’t even remember her name, there’s no use remember her name, I call her ‘that woman,’ who is not Republican in any way, shape, or form. She’s pro-abortion, she’s pro-higher taxes, why is Newt Gingrich endorsing this woman, and how do we get the message across to the Republican Party that we are sick and tired of this? Can I tell you something real quick?

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: I’m a Catholic, I think you know that, okay. When Catholics come to me and they say we want married priests and we want women priests and we want homosexual marriage, I say go and be an Episcopalian, okay? If you want all that go be an Episcopalian. If you want higher taxes, if you want pro-choice, if you want these things, go be a Democrat, don’t call yourself a Republican. Don’t do that. It’s so annoying. It’s so irritating.

RUSH: Yeah, yeah, I hear you. This business with the Republican Party, we have, as you well know because you’re a regular habitual listener —

CALLER: Yes, I’m addicted.

RUSH: — we’ve been addressing it. I can tell you exactly what’s going on with the Republican Party. It’s the social issues. The elite country club Republicans don’t like pro-lifers in this party. It’s all about that, make no mistake. There are other minor little things, too. They never have, even during the era of Reagan, the people running the Republican Party today were embarrassed of him ’cause he didn’t have the great pedigree and they thought, well, the Democrats think he’s an amiable dunce, oh, my God, but they loved the results they got, and they loved going to the conventions because everybody was winning. But the Republican Party, the people that are trying to run it now are not and never have been conservative. Now, I don’t know about Newt and this woman, but look, even the Wall Street Journal has caught onto what’s going on here in this New York 23.

Republicans are telling themselves that a political wave is building that could carry ’em to big election gains next year. Well, judging by their performance so far in the special election in New York they deserve to wander in the minority for another generation or two. Democrats want to portray this race as a familiar moderate conservative GOP split but the real issue is why the Republican, Ms. Scozzafava, is a Republican at all. She has voted for so many tax increases that the Democrat is attacking her as a tax raiser. She supported the Obama stimulus, she favors card check to make union organizing easier, or at least she did ’til a recent flip-flop. She’s run more than once on the line of the working family’s party. The GOP will wander in the desert for two generations if they keep nominating candidates like this.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I spent a lot of time in the last hour on The Politico story talking about how Obama has succeeded in marginalizing me and Fox News, the Chamber of Commerce, the insurance industry, we’re marginalized, Obama just roaring through. He is in trouble. His party is in trouble. His agenda is in trouble. Half the American people don’t like his policies. Half the country disagrees with his policies. He’s floundering in Afghanistan. He refuses to act like commander-in-chief. More and more people are starting to see that he’s not at all what they thought they elected. And there is a general disquiet that is settling across the country, there is a general despondency that’s setting out and spreading across the country as people begin to realize that they’re not going to get a roaring economy any time soon. The Obama administration itself is out there saying so, that 10% unemployment is the new norm. The American people are being told, ‘You’re gonna do with less and you’re going to like it because we have been stealing from the rest of the world and it’s about time we pay our dues.’ That’s what the American people are starting to figure out.

In the midst of all this, the brainiacs at the Republican Party selected a candidate in a special election in the 23rd District in New York State, and they picked a woman whose name is Dede Scozzafava, who essentially should be a Democrat. Even the Wall Street Journal weighs in: ‘Democrats want to portray this race as a familiar moderate-conservative GOP split, but the real issue is why Ms. Scozzafava is a Republican at all. She has voted for so many tax increases that the Democrat is attacking her as a tax raiser. She supported the Obama stimulus, and she favors ‘card check’ to make union organizing easier, or at least she did until a recent flip-flop.She has run more than once on the line of the Working Families Party, which is aligned with ACORN. Her voting record in Albany puts her to the left of nearly half of the Democrats in the assembly. She also favors gay marriage, which is to the left of Mr. Obama,’ and she’s a Republican, and this is who the Republican Party is asking people to donate to and who they are supporting. The GOP will continue to wander in the wilderness if it continues to put up candidates like this. It’s mystifying.

Now, the guy that everybody is watching in this race is a guy by the name of Doug Hoffman because he’s on the Conservative Party ticket. It’s now being reported that Dede Scozzafava is now polling in third place in this district race, ‘which may explain –‘ this is Erick Erickson at RedState.com ‘– may explain why Scozzafava, through her husband who also happens to be the head of the AFL-CIO.’ It really is a legitimate question. Why is this woman a Republican? Scozzafava ‘called the cops to chase away reporters daring to ask inconvenient questions,’ a couple days ago. But Chris Cillizza says, ‘Can Hoffman win? ‘I think the answer is absolutely yes. As Scozzafava implodes her voters are going to go elsewhere. With Hoffman in second place and voters most likely backing Scozzafava because of the ‘R’ next to her name, the voters will go to the real Republican in the race — Hoffman. Hoffman is the strongest challenger to the Democrat and gives the only real contrast to the Democrat. Hoffman can win.’ Everybody is asking, ‘Can he win this?’ Yes, of course he can. It’s mystifying because the Republican Party has a chance here, not just with this race, but in Washington as well, to contrast itself with the sheer radicalism the Obama agenda. And instead, they’re nominating candidates that are close to it.

RUSH: Kate in Fairfield, California. ‘The’ Kate, speaking of KFBK, one of my favorite callers from my days back there.
