RUSH: This is Valerie in New Orleans. Nice to have you on the EIB Network. Hello.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hi, Rush. It\u2019s a pleasure to speak with you.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: My boyfriend thinks I\u2019m crazy for waiting two hours to talk to a man I never met. Is Valerie one of the names that you like a lot?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Your boyfriend is jealous.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (giggling) I know. Well, in any case, I\u2019m calling because this whole concept of equalizing everything. I started thinking the other night about what about people who are happier than other people? Is there a pleasure tax coming our way? A way of people who have, you know, better lives with their families, their loved ones, intimacy?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, you know, what do you think a tax on achievement is? A tax on achievement is an attack on a better life. It\u2019s a tax on a better life. It is a tax on happiness, pleasure and the pursuit of it. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Mmm-hmm.<\/p>\n

RUSH: We are going to be taxed in our happiness.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Because some of us pursue pleasure and happiness better than others.<\/p>\n

RUSH: In David Letterman\u2019s case the tax rate\u2019s going to be sky-high.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (laughing) Yeah, what a rude man. I just thought I\u2019d float this idea. It\u2019s a bit Orwellian.<\/p>\n

RUSH: It\u2019s not Orwellian. It\u2019s very perceptive. It\u2019s very shrewd on your part — and yes Valerie is one of my all-time top ten female names.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Really! Are you kidding me?<\/p>\n

RUSH: No.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Because I know one of them is Rachel, right?<\/p>\n

RUSH: One of them, yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019ve been keeping track about what you say about those names.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, Rachel.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Rachel and Valerie? All right, Rush —<\/p>\n

RUSH: And one of my favorite all-time tunes is by the Monkees, Valerie.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (giggling) Hey, why did your show today revert briefly to an earlier segment?<\/p>\n

RUSH: What do you mean? What do you mean ‘revert briefly to an earlier segment\u2019? What happened?<\/p>\n

CALLER: About 30 minutes ago on your show, it replayed a part that was from about an hour earlier.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Is that right?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, we didn\u2019t do that.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I just was curious. I thought they\u2019d yanked you. I thought they\u2019d just taken you away, Rush.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No! If they\u2019d taken me away they wouldn\u2019t have played anything.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, that is what happened, and it was very odd, and I know because I\u2019ve been listening on the phone. I\u2019ve been waiting for two hours, now.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, but here\u2019s the thing: Was it a really, really good portion of the show they replayed?<\/p>\n

CALLER: You replayed — well, you didn\u2019t but what was replayed was a part where the man was speaking about the Olympics, the one with the accent, and the votes and you could hear the noise in the room? That was all replayed.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Oh. No. Wait a second. I have played that sound bite twice.<\/p>\n

CALLER: That was on purpose?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER: But all your comments were the same.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, because there\u2019s some people… See, I\u2019m a highly trained broadcast specialist and I know that there are some people listening in the third hour that might not have heard the first, and the first hour today could not be contained.<\/p>\n

CALLER: But all the things you said were the same, Rush! It was the exact same stuff. It was weird.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No. It wasn\u2019t the exact same stuff.<\/p>\n

CALLER: All right. I\u2019ll let that go then. Just tell me real quick: You like New Orleans?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah. I\u2019ve always loved New Orleans.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Really?<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, I just made it up.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (laughing) There\u2019s not much in the way of golfing here and our football team ain\u2019t all that.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, they\u2019re not bad golfing there, and football team\u2019s kick butt team this year.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Are you going to go see Pittsburgh this weekend?<\/p>\n

RUSH: I am.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Are they playing?<\/p>\n

RUSH: I\u2019m going to Pittsburgh flying to Pittsburgh tomorrow afternoon. They\u2019re playing the San Diego Chargers.<\/p>\n

CALLER: The Chargers. All right. Well, I know there\u2019s other people anxiously waiting to talk to you. It\u2019s such a pleasure, and I\u2019ve been listening to you for about a year and I\u2019ve learned an awful lot from you. I\u2019ve learned how to look at the information that is floating around, information and disinformation, and you really provide a great service.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, thank you very much.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Go get \u2019em, Rush!<\/p>\n

RUSH: I shall.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (giggles) All right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thanks very much, Valerie. All right. We gotta look into this. She is insistent that a segment was replayed. Now, we\u2019ve gotta find out if somebody\u2019s monkeying with our satellite feed out there or if somebody in our New Orleans affiliate is playing games. We have to look into this.
