RUSH: Jennifer in Fresno, you\u2019re next on the EIB Network. Hi.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hi, Rush. How are you?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Great, thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I was calling today I\u2019m sure you know that tomorrow we\u2019re going to have a large gay rights march here in Fresno. Apparently the gay —<\/p>\n

RUSH: I actually did not know that. That\u2019s not something I keep track of.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, they\u2019ve decided that because the Central Valley voted 70% in favor Proposition 8, that we\u2019re a valley full of bigots, and so they need to come here and change our minds. And so they\u2019re having a big march from Selma, California, which is —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, now, wait a minute. The way to deal with this is, ‘Gay people should not come and march. They\u2019re only going to offend you. They should just, you know, you know, open a lemonade stand, ask you to come by and maybe engage you in polite conversation. But marching, that\u2019s only going to offend you.\u2019 We\u2019re being told here that you don\u2019t really oppose people; you try to get along with them. The gay people are doing nothing but following the Republican script. Nobody is.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I think that it\u2019s going to backfire for a few reasons, and the first one is that, you\u2019re right. People in Fresno don\u2019t want to hear anything people from San Francisco and Los Angeles have to say. That\u2019s why we don\u2019t live there and we live here. And the second reason is that the gay activists and the environmental activists are kind of related in their goals, and right now the environmentalists are destroying agriculture in the Central Valley.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Let me tell you what the objective here is. You must be told this, and you may know it. You may not want to admit it; you might not want to believe it but it\u2019s true. The purpose of this march is to intimidate you. And they\u2019re going to keep it up until they wear you out.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Exactly. That\u2019s what I think.<\/p>\n

RUSH: They\u2019re going to keep it up until you say, ‘I don\u2019t care. Okay. All right. Go get married. Just leave me alone.\u2019<\/p>\n

CALLER: Exactly.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s the charge.<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s what civil unions was about.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yep.<\/p>\n

CALLER: We kind of got the impression that if they got that —<\/p>\n

RUSH: So —<\/p>\n

CALLER: — then they\u2019d leave us alone.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, so, what are you going to do, then?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, personally I\u2019m going to ignore it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: All right! <\/p>\n

CALLER: (laughing)<\/p>\n

RUSH: Exactly right. Everybody should. The media won\u2019t, but everybody else in town should. Don\u2019t let \u2019em intimidate you this way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
