RUSH: I want to remind you of something that I have said for I don\u2019t know how long. I made a big deal of this point when I addressed CPAC all those years ago in my first national address to the nation, televised by all the cable networks, starting at 5 p.m. on a Saturday. I was taking the occasion — knowing that there was a nationwide audience, I thought it\u2019d be wise — to define conservatism in a way that could be understood by everybody. And in a way that a lot of people don\u2019t understand because of the smearing that conservatives have taken throughout the Drive-By Media.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>It is this: We love everybody.<\/p>\n

We conservatives love everybody.<\/p>\n

We wish the best for everybody.<\/p>\n

We understand the great opportunity we all have as Americans.<\/p>\n

We wish for all to achieve the American dream.<\/p>\n

We wish all who want to, to apply themselves to whatever pursuit of happiness or excellence they desire. It\u2019s a rare opportunity to be born in America and to have these blessed opportunities. And all that we ask — all that people expect, all that we expect — is that you love America, that you recognize how fortunate you are to be in America and that you not run around thinking it\u2019s some great punishment to be an American.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not some grievance, not some disadvantage. You\u2019re not a victim because you\u2019re born in America. We want everybody to love America. We want everybody to do well. We want everybody to take advantage of the great potential that they all have. We bend over backwards in this country to help anybody who wants to get their dream. Just don\u2019t diss us and the country in the process.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: This really is simple, in a sense. It\u2019s the essence of Trumpism. And it\u2019s not hard to understand. I guess one of the problems is that it\u2019s not a conservative message anymore, and it\u2019s certainly not a Republican message anymore, but it damn well is. It\u2019s what I\u2019ve always thought. It\u2019s what I\u2019ve always felt.<\/p>\n

I remember the first time, after this program began, the first time that a serious attack in the media by somebody, some Democrat — I don\u2019t remember who — racism, everybody involved with the show got scared. \u201cOh, my God. That could kill you. That could wipe us out. This is horrible.\u201d They knew it wasn\u2019t true, but nobody knew how to deal with it. And one of the people in the office came to me, \u201cYou love everybody, don\u2019t you?\u201d<\/p>\n

And I said, “Yeah,” it jogged the thought, “Yeah, I do. I love everybody. I love everybody in the country.” I want the best for everybody, and especially now that I have experienced the kind of success I\u2019ve had, I certainly am not exclusive about it. My attitude is if I can, a lot of people other people can, because of where we live, because of the freedom that we all have to be who we are to do the things that we love.<\/p>\n

Everybody\u2019s different. There are different levels of ambition. There are different levels of desire. There are different levels of self-confidence. There are different psychological circumstances. The point is, in this country there\u2019s never been a system of government which permits, allows, open ups opportunity for everybody who lives in that system. There\u2019s never been anything like the United States of America.<\/p>\n

And this is not nationalism, and it\u2019s not braggadocio. It\u2019s simple realization of the blessed nature those of us born in this country have, the opportunity that we have, the lifestyle that we are born into, the opportunity to improve, however we define that. For 90% of the world\u2019s population, these are just dreams that never have a chance to be realized, because they don\u2019t live in places where that kind of potential is recognized. It\u2019s suppressed.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

That kind of potential, that kind of success is considered a threat to tyrants, dictators, and so forth. But here in this country it\u2019s always been the deal. And we, as conservatives, love everybody. We want a great nation. We want a strong nation. We want a nation that can\u2019t be defeated. We want a nation that remains great and vibrant and strong so as to be an assist to everybody in the world.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a responsibility with carrying this much freedom and ensuring it and guaranteeing it and fighting for it. There\u2019s a responsibility that comes with that. And the desire for everybody to experience it is part of the country being great. It is what \u201cMake America Great Again\u201d means. It\u2019s called realizing that we are all Americans and that we all have blessed opportunities that most in the world do not have, have never had, and will not have until they come here.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why we have to be very vigilant over who does come here and how they get here. We don\u2019t want to open ourselves up to being undermined from within. As good people, we are susceptible to that. As optimists, we tend to see the good before we see the bad. But when we see the bad, we have to recognize it and react to it and deal with it for the sake of the country.<\/p>\n

We want everybody to achieve the American dream. And we expect that everybody will have this kind of attitude. We don\u2019t want to have sit around here and accommodate a bunch of people that think being born here is akin to slavery for the rest of your life, that you are a grievanced victim or some such thing. It\u2019s offensive. It\u2019s offensive to us and all who have come before us who have fought, given their lives to maintain this blessed place.<\/p>\n

And in return, we bend over backwards to help people pursue their dreams because it\u2019s part of America being great and staying great. That derives from a great population, great people. No matter what their economic circumstance, no matter their ethnicity or their religion, great people make a great country. And that\u2019s all Trump is talking about. That\u2019s it. If I had to define Trumpism and Make America Great Again in five minutes, that would be it.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

But if you start disrespecting us, if you start trying to tear it all down, if you start lying about it, if you start trying to undermine, disrupt, and rip this place to shreds, then we\u2019re not just gonna sit by and smile and say, “Well, you have the freedom to do that.” You may, but we have the freedom to stop you, and we\u2019re gonna do what we can to stop you. And that\u2019s the battle that we are in here.<\/p>\n

Now, why don\u2019t other Republicans talk this way? Why don\u2019t other conservatives talk this way? Why is the conservative intelligentsia these days is devoted to Never Trumpism? The conservative intelligentsia, the Never Trumpers, ought to realize exactly what Make America Great is and, as conservatives, what we think of ourselves and our country.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s so much shortsightedness here over manners and personality differences and speaking tendencies and so forth that it misses the entire point. Way too many people, I think, take for granted that this country\u2019s always gonna be here and it\u2019s gonna be able to withstand whatever potshots are taken at it. And a lot of us don\u2019t think that. A lot of us are not lazy enough to think, “Hey, we don\u2019t have to stop this. Hey, we don\u2019t have to worry about this. These people are gonna bomb out.”<\/p>\n

People have been saying this for as long as I\u2019ve been alive. I\u2019ve been trying for 50 years, 30 or whatever it is, to warn people that we were headed to right here at this point. And now we\u2019re here. We don\u2019t have to warn people, \u201cHey, you better shape up or guess what it\u2019s gonna be like in 20 to 30 years?\u201d Because the 20 to 30 years has happened and we\u2019re in the middle of it now. And there\u2019s a simple retort to it. They want to run around and talk about how we\u2019re racists and bigots. No. We love everybody, including them.<\/p>\n

We want the best country we can have. We have a model, we have a model that\u2019s been in existence over 200 years that without parallel and without question is the best country human beings have ever devised. There\u2019s not one that\u2019s even close. We\u2019ve got the model. They don\u2019t have to theorize. They don\u2019t have to toll people if you do this and do that and do that then this is gonna happen because it\u2019s already happened. We\u2019re living it. And we\u2019re living it while there is an increasing attitude of destruction all around us that has now taken over one of our major political parties.<\/p>\n

So it isn\u2019t hard to say you love the country, and it\u2019s not a cliche to say so. It shouldn\u2019t be embarrassing to say so. And it shouldn\u2019t be in any way problematic to explain why and what you want. And, by the way, it\u2019s not defensive to talk this way.<\/p>\n

I just think there\u2019s been such a distraction from what conservatism is at its base and what we believe as conservatives that these simple, basic elements of it that I\u2019ve just described have long been abandoned and just assumed that everybody understands that. And they don\u2019t anymore because of the successful rebranding of conservatism by our enemies over the course of many decades. It\u2019s time to reclaim it and that\u2019s what Donald Trump is doing.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

CNN ran this focus group. I\u2019ve got the audio coming up.<\/a> They went and found eight Republican women in Dallas. They begged \u2019em, they cajoled \u2019em, they tried to get \u2019em to rip Trump to shreds over these tweets, and they would not. And the CNN people could not believe it! The interviewer conducting the focus group couldn\u2019t believe it and then the group on the panel after the interview ran, they couldn\u2019t believe.<\/p>\n

They couldn\u2019t believe what they had heard. They couldn\u2019t believe they couldn\u2019t find one woman in their focus group to rip Trump over this \u2019cause they have no idea what Trump means in this project to keep America great, Make America Great Again, ward off all of these internal attempts to destroy this the country. People that believe what I\u2019ve just espoused, they are too sophisticated to abandon it simply because they don\u2019t like a tweet now and then.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
