Yes, you could just see the headlines and the stories later this afternoon, tonight, and tomorrow: ‘Rush Limbaugh, Last Man Standing, lone holdout trying to destroy the celebration of a joyous nation.\u2019 ‘As Obama happily paints a wall where homeless children live, Limbaugh asks, ‘Why aren\u2019t the indigent children painting the wall themselves? The man is obviously the president-elect. He\u2019s got better things to do.\u2019 Limbaugh then observed on television that there was nothing going on today,\u2019 yet the Drive-Bys were covering events as though everything was happening today. Yet nothing is happening today. It\u2019s just the Drive-Bys wanting to be in on the story, much like the Princess Di funeral when everybody wanted to be involved in that story. Ladies and gentlemen, we are the last ones standing here. We\u2019re not drinking the Kool-Aid. Oh, ‘Limbaugh then compared Obama to Jim Jones,\u2019 which I didn\u2019t do, of course, ‘and then Limbaugh speculated on whether he should rename Washington Obamatown.\u2019 <\/p>\n

By the way, I do have a serious question. If Obama\u2019s words, according to CNN, are going to be chiseled in marble, his immaculation address, how soon will it be that somebody proposes an Obama memorial in Washington, DC, before he leaves office, and then once they suggest that, what will the memorial be? What shape will it take? Well, we know that it will have to be the tallest memorial in town, taller than the Washington Monument, which will require some suspension of ordinances, or re-writing of district ordinances. Shouldn\u2019t be a problem. That\u2019s the shape that all of this attacking. <\/p>\n

I want to continue with this CNN story: ‘Civil Rights Vets: Fight Not Over Because Obama Reaches Top.\u2019 Let\u2019s see, Charlie Steele, the president, CEO, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, ‘President-elect Barack Obama is just a piece of the puzzle. This tells us that we are at a station, but it\u2019s not our destination.\u2019 White House is not our destination. ‘We\u2019ve got to get back on the train,\u2019 and keep heading on down the track. ‘Steele said he worries that those who espouse King\u2019s dream may grow lackadaisical because an African-American has taken the reins of the free world. But it is imperative, he said, that they ‘march now more than ever before.” Wendy, you looked shocked when I reported that. (interruption) I know who it is. Snerdley, I was going to get there. Charlie Steele, to refresh your memories, ladies and gentlemen, of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, this is not the first time he has said that Obama\u2019s election is meaningless to the civil rights struggle. He also said some months ago that Obama does not have slave blood and therefore he cannot be looked upon as any sign or any type of genuine civil rights achievement \u2019cause there\u2019s no slave blood. <\/p>\n

Now, Michelle Obama, said Charles Steele, she has slave blood, but she hasn\u2019t been elected. She\u2019s just the first lady. He said this on both occasions as a means of saying, ‘Hey, civil rights movement, that\u2019s not over with,\u2019 and he\u2019s saying that people need to march now even more than ever before. ‘Obama needs to be reminded of the concerns of the African-American community, warning civil rights supporters not to assume Obama owes them something.\u2019 Well, let\u2019s go to the audio sound bites, shall we? We\u2019ll start Sunday morning, I should say, PMSNBC live, the anchor Tamron Hall spoke with Azusa Christian Community in Boston, the Reverend Eugene Rivers about President-elect Obama and race, and Tamron Hall said, ‘A lot of people say Obama becoming the nation\u2019s 44th president say that racism is over, discrimination is over, that black men can get a taxi now, as Barack Obama once said.\u2019<\/p>\n

RIVERS: I couldn\u2019t get one last night. I couldn\u2019t get one — I was — I was trying to get something for my wife last night, and it was so funny, I\u2019m sitting there in that little — that little — little real yuppie area, and so I wanted to pick up some food, and I\u2019m standing there, and these two very — you know, four little young white girls come by, you know, and I\u2019m standing there like for a half hour just freezing, like three o\u2019clock in the morning, right? And that cab just rolled right by me, right? The little white girls were like ten feet ahead, and that cab driver took the four white girls to Arlington, Virginia.<\/p>\n

RUSH: This is the Reverend Eugene Rivers of Boston, the Azusa Christian Community, who said he couldn\u2019t get a cab in Washington despite the fact that Obama has been elected. But the cab did stop and pick up the four little white girls and take \u2019em out to Arlington, while he\u2019s standing out there freezing — (interruption) yes, Mr. Snerdley? Question from the program observer. Hm-hm. Hm-hm. Hm-hm. Hm-hm. Most of the cabdrivers in Washington are minorities. I know. Well, so what? The point is that Eugene Rivers, the Rev Eugene Rivers of the Azusa Christian Community says he was standing out there at three o\u2019clock in the morning, it was cold, and he couldn\u2019t get a cab \u2019cause he\u2019s black despite the fact that Obama\u2019s been elected. Who you gonna believe? Are you calling the reverend a liar? All right, well, he continued. He said he had more to say on this.<\/p>\n

RIVERS: The post-racial rhetoric was simply a politically obligatory applause line, Valerie Jarrett, Barack Obama, John Rogers, Henry Louis Gates, Venus and Serena — honey, you know we in a new world when Venus and Serena Williams can conquer Wimbledon, honey, but Richard Williams — you know, so we are not in a post-racial; we are in a much improved place. But to say we\u2019re post-racial is simply a — a — a heartwarming fiction.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, there he is continuing on and on here that there really hasn\u2019t been any movement, there really hasn\u2019t. I warned you people of this. I told people this countless times that this is not gonna cause the civil rights community to make any changes. In fact, Snerdley is shouting at me, interrupting my performance, saying nobody wants to hear this anymore. I thought nobody wanted to hear about socialism, Snerdley, and they can\u2019t get enough of it. But, anyway, it\u2019s just going to be fun.
