RUSH: Larry, Deer Park, New York. It\u2019s great to have you, sir. Hi.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hello, Rush. A few months ago I called and said you sounded disheartened. Well, I\u2019m disheartened now after listening to Vickie yesterday.<\/a> And I hear so many other one-issue people all over the place. A former mayor of New York, and a guy that used to have a show on before you used to say, if you agree with seven out of 12 issues you gotta vote for the guy, Republican or Democrat.\u201d Well, Donald Trump has fulfilled at least 10 out of 12 issues. And I just want to know — now, the reason I\u2019m so concerned about Vickie is because most of the time they sound like seminar callers or they\u2019re part of the Ann Coulter brigade, but Vickie sounded sincere.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, yeah, Vickie\u2019s not going anywhere. Don\u2019t worry about Vickie. She\u2019s not going anywhere. Look, I think she represents a significant number of people that voted for Trump. They\u2019re sick and tired of this. Larry, it\u2019s no secret, people are fed up with this. They\u2019re fed up with the lies. They\u2019re fed up with the inaction. They\u2019re fed up of the destruction that is occurring because of illegal immigration.<\/p>\n

\"\"Trump was elected to stop it. She was all excited when these raids were announced. To her, this is second only to the wall getting built. Then it gets called off because of Pelosi! It ripped her a new one. She\u2019s not gonna abandon Trump. She\u2019s not part of any seminar caller brigade. I\u2019m expert at assessing those people and ferreting them out. She was not.<\/p>\n

And I don\u2019t even think she\u2019s single issue. I think she was just paying attention to what was being said by the administration and then they backed off and didn\u2019t do it and she was irritated. She was waiting for me to tell her why. She didn\u2019t want to cave and fade away on Trump on this.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019m glad to hear that. I want them also to trust Trump\u2019s tactics with these liberal Democrats.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, you have to understand something. It took me awhile. A lot of people on our side who have had two years of history to learn from, still think the Democrats never make a mistake, still think the Democrats are brilliant and everything they do is a for a reason, for a long-term success reason. We\u2019ve still got a lot of people who think the Democrats never screw up, never make a mistake, never blow anything, the media is right there helping them along.<\/p>\n

And this is the kind of thing that would make them say, “See? I knew it was too good to be true. I knew it. Not even Trump is gonna do it.” Our side has people who have been let down and disappointed for so long. Promise after promise, either during campaigns or even after a candidate gets elected, the promises continue. It\u2019s a lot of conditioning that has taken place that takes a while to overcome.<\/p>\n

I tell people as often as I can, the Democrats are not infallible. Everything they do is not perfect. In fact, I think the Democrats are in so much trouble, even despite the 2018 midterms. I think the signs are all around us. They\u2019re blaring at us, the Democrats have big trouble, particularly in the context of presidential politics and winning in 2020. They\u2019re mired in a mess. They do not have a single candidate that can compete on a stage with Donald Trump in any way — on issues, on performance, on charisma, on magnetism, on owning the event, they don\u2019t have a single person.<\/p>\n

Not even Mayor Pete, who I think is in more trouble than anybody wants to realize because Mayor Pete was never gonna be the nominee in the first place. If I lived in South Bend, Indiana, be saying, “Mayor Pete, what are you doing running for president? You know you\u2019re not gonna be elected. And while you\u2019re running for president, you\u2019re not here. We got police problems out the wazoo while you\u2019re out running for president, for what? Two-hundred thousand speaking engagements down the road?”<\/p>\n

\"\"I understand the complaint you have about people who are single issue, but Vickie was not even a single issue person. I am as irritated by those people as you are. But this is not what we\u2019re talking about this, Larr, old buddy. As far as I\u2019m concerned, she had a legitimate reason to be concerned, \u2019cause this was it for a lot of people. This issue was why they voted for Trump. And they have total devotion and implicit trust in Trump.<\/p>\n

And they don\u2019t want it shattered. They don\u2019t want to not have that trust. They don\u2019t want to not believe that Trump is who he said he was. And some of them need external reinforcement, like from me, like Vickie needed it yesterday. I was happy to provide it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
