CALLER: Thanks a lot, Rush.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yes.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I just had one thing to say. I\u2019ve been watching Obama kind of pour honey in so many people\u2019s ears for the last couple years, and during his victory speech last night, I noticed that he said some things that he didn\u2019t say a lot on his campaign trail, I noticed that he said you know, a lot of these issues that he said he was going to resolve and heal everybody\u2019s problems, all of a sudden I hear him saying these problems aren\u2019t going to be fixed within a year, probably not even within four years. So I feel like he\u2019s already covering himself up, covering his —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, actually, you\u2019re right. We have two sound bites to illustrate this, by the way. And you\u2019re very, very shrewd and very observant out there, Trevor, because the Obama campaign actually began lowering expectations before yesterday, before the election because they\u2019re getting a little alarmed here at the euphoria that has overcome his supporters. If you watched his speech last night at Grant Park you saw their faces. I mean this whole big crowd business, you know, I can\u2019t put my finger on this other than to say I know it\u2019s marketing, and I know it\u2019s packaging, and, by the way, I do think Obama is going to replicate one thing that Clinton did. I think Obama\u2019s campaign will never end. His governance as president will be as a constant campaign. Clinton never stopped campaigning. The war room mode never shut down, and I think it\u2019s gonna be the same thing with Obama. This big crowd business and this desire to have these huge crowds, the pictures last night of these hordes, I was looking at Obama\u2019s hordes, in fact I saw \u2019em outside the White House. <\/p>\n

I\u2019ve got a picture of these hordes outside the White House carrying a Soviet flag. There\u2019s a picture of the Soviet flag, and I was hoping, I was hoping these hordes would storm the White House grounds. I know it\u2019s not possible with all the security they got there, but I was hoping these Obama hordes would somehow storm the White House fence. That would have been so cool. But, of course, it didn\u2019t happen out there. (interruption) I saw all that, Snerdley, they had ‘Convict Bush Now,\u2019 they had the Soviet flag out there and the media was loving all this because, ‘Bush probably can\u2019t sleep.\u2019 This was one o\u2019clock in the morning or some such thing, ‘Oh, wow, this is exciting, the first family is not going to be able to sleep here tonight with all these people out there. ‘Convict Bush Now,\u2019 and the Soviet flag out there.\u2019 But these big crowds here, folks, there\u2019s something about this beyond marketing and packaging. Let\u2019s go to these two sound bites. The reverb last night, the reverb last night was more reverb than I have ever heard. Here are the two sound bites, already campaigning for a second term, Barack Obama last night, Grant Park, Chicago.<\/p>\n

OBAMA: The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even in one term. But America, I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you, we as a people will get there.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, I remember that bite. Where are we going? He didn\u2019t tell the crowd where we were going, and the crowd didn\u2019t care where they\u2019re going. The crowd thinks they\u2019re going to euphoria. They think they\u2019re going to utopia. (doing Obama impression) ‘The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year, one term.\u2019 Now, some people think he\u2019s trying to lower expectations. He\u2019s making the case for a second term, but he\u2019s also telling people, ‘I can\u2019t tell you what we\u2019re going to do yet.\u2019 ‘I\u2019ve never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we\u2019ll get there.\u2019 Get where? I mean you\u2019re right, Snerdley, this is almost sounding like a line lifted from Dr. King\u2019s speech on April 3rd, 1968: ‘We as a people will get to the Promised Land. I may not get there with you, but we as a people, we will get to the Promised Land.\u2019 April 3rd, 1968, before his death. The Promised Land we\u2019ll get there, climb will be steep, we may not get there in one year or even in one term, but we\u2019re going to get there. Where? Where the hell, where we going to get to? Crowd didn\u2019t care. Here\u2019s the next bite, The Messiah lowers the bar.<\/p>\n

OBAMA: There will be setbacks and false starts.<\/p>\n

RUSH: What\u2019s that mean?<\/p>\n

OBAMA: There are many who won\u2019t agree with every decision or policy I make as president.<\/p>\n

RUSH: How can that be?<\/p>\n

OBAMA: We know the government can\u2019t solve every problem.<\/p>\n

RUSH: What?<\/p>\n

OBAMA: But I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Really?<\/p>\n

OBAMA: I will listen to you, especially when we disagree.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Fairness Doctrine?<\/p>\n

OBAMA: Above all, I will ask you to join in the work of remaking this nation —<\/p>\n

RUSH: What?<\/p>\n

OBAMA: — the only way it\u2019s been done in America for 221 years — <\/p>\n

RUSH: We?<\/p>\n

OBAMA: — block by block — <\/p>\n

RUSH: We?<\/p>\n

OBAMA: — brick by brick — <\/p>\n

RUSH: We?<\/p>\n

OBAMA: — calloused hand by calloused hand.<\/p>\n

RUSH: What\u2019s this, bro, you asking us to join in the work of remaking the nation? That bite where he\u2019s going on and on and on about sacrifice, gonna take hard work, the crowd, that\u2019s when I finally saw some consciousness on their face, they said, ‘What?\u2019 I mean, the cheering stopped, a little puzzlement, looks of perplexed on these faces, ‘Whoa, whoa, what is this sacrifice? We, we gonna sacrifice?\u2019 So now this is pretty profound, setbacks and false starts. He\u2019s echoing Biden. ‘There are many who won\u2019t agree with every decision –‘ what about the unity? Now, folks, wait a minute. I can just hear you, I have empathy. I can just hear somebody, ‘Why you nitpicking Obama? Rush, we know these things are just platitudes.\u2019 The reason I\u2019m nitpicking Obama is because his campaign was comprised of the exact opposite of this, and people bought the exact opposite. He didn\u2019t talk about setbacks and starts. He talked about miracles. He talked about lowering the sea level. He talked about a new day. He talked about world peace. He talked about alternative fuels and no oil in ten years. He talked about hope. <\/p>\n

Where was this setback garbage in the campaign? Setbacks? We didn\u2019t hear anything about sacrifice. The only time we heard about sacrifice was when the rich were going to be — oops, sorry — was when the rich were going to be doing it. But now he told his own millions out there that they\u2019re going to be sacrificing, too. That\u2019s why I\u2019m nitpicking this \u2019cause I want people to understand what they have done. Like I said yesterday, I love enlightening stupid people. There is nothing to me — well, I can\u2019t say nothing, there are things I like more than this — but, folks, you talk about euphoria, I get euphoric when I turn the light on inside some stupid person\u2019s brain. Well, does that sound cruel, Mr. Snerdley? What\u2019s wrong with the word ‘stupid\u2019? It has a definition. There are some stupid people. There are also some ignorant people. (interruption) You prefer ‘ignorant\u2019? Now you\u2019re starting to sound like people, ‘Don\u2019t offend them, Rush, don\u2019t offend them.\u2019 All right, I\u2019ll say ignorant people. (interruption) I\u2019m not talking about our side. I\u2019m talking about the people that voted for Obama. (interruption) No, I\u2019m not talking to the people on our side that voted for Obama. I doubt they\u2019re still listening. I hope that they have been humiliated in the first hour and are gone in meditation and contemplation. I\u2019m confident they\u2019ll be back. <\/p>\n

Folks, don\u2019t you like teaching people things? When people have just fallen for a bunch of nothing and you are able to point out what they have fallen for, don\u2019t you love it when you see in their face, uh-oh? We are trying to help them, Snerdley. I am trying to be helpful. You are misunderstanding my tone here. I get gleeful when I teach somebody something. That\u2019s why I\u2019m nitpicking this; that\u2019s why I\u2019m parsing this. ‘I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face.\u2019 What challenges? I didn\u2019t think there were any. Once we had hope and change taken care of and once he was elected, that was it. ‘I will listen to you, especially when we disagree.\u2019 Oh! Now, I happen to disagree. Are you going to listen to me or are you going to implement the Fairness Doctrine? ‘And above all, I will ask you to join in the work of remaking this nation.\u2019 Now, that, remaking the nation? That\u2019s not fixing something. Remaking it? What the hell is that? And I maintain to you that the vast majority of people that voted for Obama aren\u2019t even thinking about this the way I\u2019m thinking about it. They\u2019re not even contemplating it. There was no substance to the people electing him, most of them who did. He was a symbol, represented all kinds of stuff. That\u2019s why I\u2019m nitpicking this. ‘Rush, are you trying to make people bad? Are you trying to make them feel bad for the decision they made?\u2019 Yes! Of course I am.<\/p>\n
