RUSH: I have a story here from Breitbart. The headline: \u201cDonald Trump Astonished by Positive Tax Cut Report in ‘Very Fake\u2019 New York Times.<\/a>\u201d We had this story yesterday. The New York Times actually ran a story<\/a> that essentially said: Face it. You probably got a tax cut. This after two years of demagoguery and lying to people that they weren\u2019t gonna get a tax cut, that their taxes were going up, that 10,000 people a year additional would die in this country because of these tax cuts.<\/p>\n

\"\"And so Breitbart\u2019s story here is all about Trump\u2019s reaction to it. And it is curious. I think the reason that the Times had to run the story is because now, with refund checks coming in and people getting bigger refunds than they were told \u2013 it really is stunning, the number of people who thought they weren\u2019t gonna get refunds, their refunds are gonna be smaller, they were lied to from beginning to end on this tax cut story. And it had multi-reasons for it.<\/p>\n

One, the left doesn\u2019t want any tax cuts at all. There\u2019s a story in the LA Times today saying the problem with tax cuts is they\u2019re not high enough. Bernie Sanders out there in his town hall with Fox News last night — we\u2019ll have some sound bites of that coming up — needs more taxes to provide his free Medicare for all. Wait \u2019til you hear how Bernie Sanders explains it\u2019s gonna be free. He acknowledges it isn\u2019t gonna be free, but it\u2019s gonna be free at the point you use it! Wait \u2019til you hear this!<\/p>\n

But the point is the left doesn\u2019t want tax cuts ever. They don\u2019t want government getting smaller. They don\u2019t want you becoming more self-reliant. They don\u2019t want you having more control over your financial life and future. They are for growing government, more taxes. And they hate Trump.<\/p>\n

So anything Trump does that is going to improve the lives of average Americans, the deplorables, the people who make the country work, anything that\u2019s gonna give them more control over their lives, more financial security, more back-pocket money, they have to destroy this.<\/p>\n

They have to make sure that whatever people think is gonna happen good is not gonna happen, and the media was aligned in a never-ending effort to destroy what everybody thought was gonna happen with tax cuts. The government was gonna collapse, people were gonna die, new outbreaks of illnesses were gonna happen all because of Trump\u2019s tax cuts, and the piece de resistance was that even with a tax cut you were gonna be paying more.<\/p>\n

And it was one of those things that while they are doing it, didn\u2019t spend a lot of time on it, said nobody\u2019s gonna believe this. Tax cuts are tax cuts. You end up keeping more of what you earn. But, lo and behold, a shocking percentage of people in this country bought hook, line, and sinker that Trump\u2019s tax cut was gonna cost them money and add additional pain to their lives.<\/p>\n

But then the truth begins to happen with tax refunds and people getting more than they thought, and so it came time late in the cycle for the New York Times to run their story: “Face it: You (Probably) Got a Tax Cut.”<\/a> Face it. You probably got a tax cut? That headline alone tells you what they knew they had created.<\/p>\n

Now, speaking of the lies that the media has fed us for more than a year about Trump\u2019s tax cut — and, boy, they were doubling down on this right before the midterms. If you recall the news from early through end of October in 2018 was just savage on the Trump tax cuts.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>So Madeline Osburn at The Federalist has compiled a list of nine of the most popular lies told by all elements of the Drive-By Media about the Trump tax cuts. \u201cNine Apocalyptic Lies Fed To Americans About The Republican Tax Bill.<\/a> \u2026 What falsities did these liberal opponents tell the American people would happen pending the passing of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act?\u201d Here are just a few.<\/p>\n

Number 1. 10,000 people will be killed every year. This is from Larry Summers, economist, former Treasury secretary, former president of Harvard, \u201cwrote in a Washington Post op-ed that \u2018the conclusion would follow that the tax bill would result in 10,000 extra deaths per year.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

This is one of these things, who in the world is gonna believe this? I\u2019m sorry, it\u2019s one of those instances where I should have said everybody that consumes mainstream media is gonna believe it. But I just got so inured to the fact that — you know, everything, Republicans are gonna kill you, Republicans are gonna kill your neighbor, Republicans are gonna poison your water, Republicans don\u2019t care about clean air, Republicans want to pollute. I mean, it\u2019s absurd!<\/p>\n

But remember, every news story, every news story the angle is going to be either how it\u2019s bad for the right or what the right\u2019s reaction to it is if it\u2019s bad for the left. 10,000 people will be killed every year. Bruce Bartlett — you ready for this? This guy used to be a Reaganite. Former Treasury official. He went south long before Trump came along. Bruce Bartlett said the tax bill is \u201cakin to rape.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said it \u201cwould not create a single job, that Republicans want the poor to pay more taxes to force them to work more, and that the bill is \u2018really akin to rape.\u2019\u201d Well, Bruce Bartlett is one of the favorite type of sources Drive-Bys can find, a former Republican, former conservative ragging on his own side.<\/p>\n

Number 3. \u201cNancy Pelosi, who was minority leader at the time the bill was passed, said the tax reform bill was \u2018the worst bill in the history of the United States Congress.\u2019 When a reporter asked her later about her hyperbolic descriptions, she replied, \u2018No, it is the end of the world. The debate over health care is life and death. This is Armageddon.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The Trump tax cut is Armageddon, the worst legislation ever considered by Congress. Remember, now, these comments end up on AP, in Yahoo News, in your Facebook feed, they end up all over the world.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u201cWhen graduate students were told their tuition waivers for working as teaching assistants and researchers would become taxable, they calculated that their taxes would increase by 61 percent.\u201d Therefore they said grad students will have to quit doctorate programs. Trump\u2019s tax cut was going to wipe out graduate schools.<\/p>\n

Kurt Eichenwald: “America died tonight. Economic suicide adopted to feed the insatiable greed of donors, who have been refusing to dole out $ to GOP until they got their tax cuts. Voters fooled by propaganda and tribal hatred. Millenials: move away if you can. USA is over. We killed it.\u201d America is dead. Millennials were advised to leave America.<\/p>\n

\u201cWashington Post columnist Catherine Rampell described the ways Republicans are using higher taxes to \u2018plan to punish the poor and middle class.\u2019 She said, \u2018I used to think the Republican Party\u2019s obsession with top-heavy tax cuts was about pleasing wealthy donors and maybe also fulfilling some misguided Randian fantasy. If the poor and middle class happened to be collateral damage, so be it.\u2019 But it\u2019s starting to look like shafting the little guy has become a feature, not a bug, of the GOP\u2019s budget-busting tax plan.\u201d<\/p>\n

Washington Post columnist Catherine Rampell described the ways Republicans are using higher taxes to plan to punish the poor and the middle class. She said, “I used to think the Republican Party\u2019s obsession with-top-heavy tax cuts was about pleasing wealthy donors. And maybe, also fulfilling some misguided Randian fantasy. If the poor and middle class happen to be collateral damage, so be it. But it\u2019s starting to look like shafting the little guy has become a feature, not a bug, of the GOP\u2019s budget busting tax plan.” Headline: “Republicans Want to Kick the Poor, Middle Class In the Face.\u201d<\/p>\n

Number 7. \u201cRick Newman at Yahoo Finance wrote about a looming \u2018tax surprise\u2019 in 2018, without ever explaining why giving the government a smaller interest-free loan with every paycheck might be better than a fat refund.\u201d Which I\u2019ll explain here in a moment. “People Are Getting Bigger Paychecks. Here\u2019s Why That\u2019s Bad.\u201d Was the headline. “People Are Getting Bigger Paychecks. Here\u2019s Why That\u2019s Bad.\u201d It\u2019s all about the withholding that was changed.<\/p>\n

So some people, if they didn\u2019t make any changes at all to their own W-4s had less withheld, their paychecks were bigger, that was bad. You know why that was bad? That was bad because your refund is gonna be smaller! You know how many people in this country have been trained to believe a big refund is them screwing the government?<\/p>\n

I first encountered this when I worked for the Kansas City Royals. There was a guy there who thought he was a financial wizard, and every year he structured his taxes so he got some gigantic refund, and whenever it came in he ran around waving a check, \u201cLook at me.\u201d And everybody was asking, \u201cWell, who\u2019s your accountant? I need to get a hold of your account.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"It turns out this guy was overpaying his taxes every year like you can\u2019t believe just to get the big refund to be able to brag about how he was screwing the government. He was giving the government his money interest free all year.<\/p>\n

Now, some people like a big refund because it\u2019s the only time in their lives they\u2019re gonna have a thousand or 2,000 or maybe $3,000 in one chunk. But the fact of the matter is that if you get a big refund, you are having too much withheld from your paycheck. You are paying the government too much every pay period and they\u2019re keeping your money without any interest and then giving it back to you in the form of a refund.<\/p>\n

And it\u2019s the government behind this scam that makes you think you\u2019re screwing them. They\u2019re happy for you to think that you\u2019re screwing the government \u2019cause everybody — when it comes to taxes, everybody hears about how rich person A, rich person B doesn\u2019t pay anything. So if he doesn\u2019t, it must be possible. And the closest you can get to that is a gigantic refund.<\/p>\n

So the government sponsors this idea that a gigantic refund is the little guy screwing the government. Yep, you outsmarted us again, little guy. They smirk and laugh. I mean, folks, in a matter of dollars and cents, the perfect refund would be zero.<\/p>\n

But for most people that, “No, no, Rush, I want the refund. I want that big chunk. I want to buy the fridge, pay down the debt, whatever I want to do with it. If that refund comes to me in 52 installments or 26, whatever the pay period is I\u2019ll just spend it as I have it and I won\u2019t accrue it, I\u2019ll never have this big stash.”<\/p>\n

Well, that may be true, just a little discipline called saving. It\u2019s tough to do. But this lie, most people are getting bigger paychecks, here\u2019s why that\u2019s bad, you\u2019re being lied to by this guy claiming that it\u2019s really better to let the government have your money all year and give it back to you in the spring. The fact that your paychecks are bigger is bad, bad news. It\u2019s more government trickery. Just obscene. New Yorkers allege all Americans will suffer.<\/p>\n

And then there was Paul Krugman, New York Times: An endless global recession. This guy has been shown to be so ignorant and so wrong and so discredited on matters of economics, he should have been fired from the New York Times, and they should have been embarrassed to have had him on the payroll for as long as he\u2019s been. He\u2019s never right about this stuff.<\/p>\n

Like Paul Ehrlich and The Population Bomb. These guys on the left have never been right about their apocalyptic predictions of anything. Life continues to get better in any which way you measure it. These people continue to preach the apocalypse, they continue to be gospel givers and so forth. It\u2019s obscene.<\/p>\n

Ninety percent of Americans, on Tax Day… Yesterday. Ironic here. Ninety percent of Americans paid less taxes than they did a year ago. And they think they didn\u2019t get a tax cut.
