RUSH: We start in West Frankfort, Illinois. Lanny, great to have you with us. You\u2019re up first.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hey, Rush. Mega dittos.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you, sir.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah, I basically called to say once again that you are right. I was one of these conservatives that got on the Obama bandwagon there for a while, for a few months, and basically came to the realization that the guy — you know I guess at first I thought, well, you know, we need some new blood in there, somebody that\u2019s not been around forever, that maybe can, almost like a pastor at a pulpit, can motivate people, make some change. And I started thinking, what are you thinking about here? This guy is a liberal. He\u2019s going to spend all the money he can get his hands on. He\u2019s a radical.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You knew that at the outset, yet there was something about The Messiah that made you overlook your conservatism. What was it? And overlook his avowed liberalism.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, like I said, I can\u2019t put my finger on any one thing. I guess I just — I mean, let\u2019s be honest, the guy can make a presentation, he can speak like you said.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER: But behind all the speaking and all the speeches, what\u2019s left? And I overlooked that for a while I guess, and I guess I would have to say to all my conservative friends or even moderate or liberal friends listening, you\u2019ve gotta get to the substance of this. Look, and Rush, here\u2019s another thing, too. This whole issue of the economy looking bad and it being a deficit for McCain, I think we\u2019re looking at that backwards. I think that actually would be a bonus for McCain. If Obama was in office and we all had hundred-dollar bills falling out of our pockets and the butterflies and unicorns were buzzing around and bluebirds were on our shoulders, you could say, ‘Okay, maybe give this guy a chance.\u2019 But the economy is bad right now, what\u2019s going to happen if he does get in office? He\u2019s going to spend even more money that we can\u2019t afford to spend. So actually I think that should be a benefit for McCain, not a liability.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, yeah. I agree with that, but of course you gotta know what to do with the data. Gotta know what to do with the issue. I think the economy, energy, these are slam-dunk winning issues for McCain because his opponent is a socialist who wants to central plan everything. His opponent is a guy who\u2019s basically saying we aren\u2019t the solution to the problem, we\u2019re the burden, and the government\u2019s burdened with us, and the government\u2019s going to have to work very hard and get bigger and appropriate even more money to take care of us because we are boobs and we can\u2019t take care of ourselves. And we don\u2019t have the money to do that. In the midst of even this economic decline, Obama is still out there promising to raise taxes and spend even more. It\u2019s amazing to watch how this is shaking out. Energy as well. Slam dunk. Obama last night says, (paraphrasing) ‘We can scare the Russians. I\u2019ll tell you how to deal with the Russians, we start conserving energy.\u2019 Yeah, we all start using our tire gauges to keep our tires inflated and Vladimir Putin and the KGB are going to be quaking in their boots. <\/p>\n

This is ass backwards. If you want to scare Putin and the KGB, we start producing additional energy. Conservation is not going to grow anybody anything. I\u2019ll tell you what. In addition to that, I have to make this point again about the debate last night, and this is the moderator. Not one question on abortion, and that\u2019s bad because Obama supports infanticide, killing babies who are intended to be aborted but who survive the abortion. Obama votes to kill \u2019em, let the doctors kill \u2019em. Immigration didn\u2019t come up. Gun control did not come up. You talk about somebody vulnerable on an issue that has been an issue on which votes turn, that\u2019s Barack Obama and guns. Didn\u2019t come up. A whole lot of things like this, foreign contributions, fundraising, they are shielding Obama from virtually everything. Bill Ayers didn\u2019t come up, ACORN didn\u2019t come up. At some point Obama\u2019s going to be forced to answer these questions because whether McCain likes it or not, we are not going to let the issues die.
