RUSH: Since most of you saw this last night, we\u2019ll review those later. I want to get to your reactions — and the reaction from the Obama people today is just to die for. Here\u2019s Barbara in Los Angeles. You\u2019re next. I\u2019m glad you called.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Rush, I am so excited to talk to you. It was so funny. This morning Axelrod comes out with Sarah\u2019s speech was ‘devoid of substance.\u2019 There is not one thing that comes out of Barack\u2019s ‘Windbag\u2019 Obama\u2019s mouth that has any substance, and the entire Obama campaign is ‘devoid of substance.\u2019<\/p>\n

RUSH: By design. They have to be devoid of substance because he is.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, the other thing that I thought was very interesting last night was all of these Democratic nut balls come out, and said her speech was written by somebody else. Barack Obama can\u2019t order a Happy Meal without having Axelrod or somebody else on his staff writing something for him.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That is exactly right. Axelrod is the speechwriter. Axelrod is the primary speechwriter in the Obama campaign. Look, this is all because last night was so effective, the night before was so effective. These people are back on their heels. They\u2019re on defense. They have not been here the whole campaign. They have been running around with their own aura of coronation. ‘It\u2019s just a matter of time. We are the chosen ones! We are the ones we\u2019ve been waiting for.\u2019 Sarah Palin is the one we have been waiting for, and that\u2019s real. Now, you bring up Axelrod. I have two things I want to share with you on that regard. Here\u2019s a story about the Axelrod business. He\u2019s one of the campaign managers for Obama, and the story says, ‘Barack Obama\u2019s camp is unloading on Sarah Palin after Palin described herself as a pit bull and then tore into Obama in a tough convention speech. <\/p>\n

‘Axelrod speaking to reporters aboard Obama\u2019s campaign plane…\u2019 I just loved it, by the way, when she nailed him on his own phony presidential seal. Ah! The Styrofoam columns that have been shipped back to the back lot? (laughing) Ye-e-es, mama. Anyway, here\u2019s Axelrod. ‘There wasn\u2019t one thing Sarah Palin said about Obama or what he\u2019s proposing that\u2019s true.\u2019 Wrong, Axelrod. Nobody lied about your candidate last night. Nobody lied. ‘Axelrod defended Obama against one of Palin\u2019s most biting lines when she ridiculed a favorite part of Obama\u2019s resume saying, ‘I guess small town mayor is sort of like a community organizer except you have actual responsibilities.” I knew that was going to get \u2019em, and it did. <\/p>\n

Axelrod said, ‘They can demean service in the community, but I think most people appreciate it.\u2019 Most people don\u2019t know what the hell it is! Most people don\u2019t know what the hell a community organizer is, and Obama the hell hasn\u2019t… Most people think of a community organizer as an agitator, like Al Sharpton or the Reverend Jackson, leading protests. All I know is that the people that were depending on Obama\u2019s community organizing efforts are probably still in the same condition they were in when Obama was there! They\u2019re probably still in the community having not elevated themselves whatsoever. Like the schools! The schools in Chicago? The kids are boycotting schools in Chicago because they\u2019re rotten. The very community organizing schoooooools that Obama was supposedly in charge of! That was the subject of our Morning Update today! <\/p>\n

He said he\u2019s proud of those three years that he spent as a young person working in those communities. What did he do there? What are we supposed to just bend down and salivate. ‘Oooooh, okay, Mr. Messiah. You worked in the community.\u2019 That was her point last night. She has actually worked in a community and made it better. Obama can\u2019t tell us what he did. ‘Then Axelrod accused Palin of trying to, ‘ignore his work as a constitutional lawyer, as a professor at the University of Chicago, his eight years in the legislature, his years in the United States Senate.\u2019 Obama himself rarely mentions his time spent in academia or Harvard Law,\u2019 and why is that? In their own video that they put together to introduce Obama, they left all kind of things out of his life. <\/p>\n

They left out Harvard. They left out his career as a constitutional lawyer. They didn\u2019t talk about what he taught as a law school professor. There were all kinds of holes. I wonder why that is. I wonder why they left all that information out of Barack Obama\u2019s life history. Victor Davis Hanson today, by the way, has a great piece posted at Townhall.com, and said the reason that people of this country are so often angry and upset is that everybody running for political office is a lawyer, and we\u2019re tired of lawyers. John Edwards is a lawyer. John Kerry is a lawyer. You name \u2019em. Reagan was not a lawyer. But Bill Clinton was a lawyer. Obama\u2019s a lawyer, Biden\u2019s a lawyer, and what kind of language you get with lawyers? You get legalese. You get doublespeak. You get political correctness. <\/p>\n

Sarah Palin\u2019s not a lawyer, and we got real last night. I think Victor Davis Hanson has a grade-point. Let\u2019s move on to David Plouffe. David Plouffe is another campaign associate of The Messiah. I\u2019ll tell you, Sarah Palin is not only comfortable in her own skin, she is obviously comfortable underneath Obama\u2019s skin, \u2019cause she got under his skin last night. She got under Biden\u2019s skin. They\u2019re all in a state of panic. Obama\u2019s campaign is defending ‘community organizers.\u2019 They have been trapped again into defending something that can\u2019t be explained. Here\u2019s the fundraising letter that Plouffe sent out. ‘Dear friend: I wasn\u2019t planning on sending you something tonight, but if you saw what I saw from the Republican convention, you know that it demands a response.\u2019 <\/p>\n

No, Mr. Plouffe, it doesn\u2019t ‘demand a response.\u2019 (laughs) Your problem is, you didn\u2019t vet the guy at the top of your ticket. The Democrat Party needs a legitimate candidate! You can talk all you want about McCain not ‘vetting\u2019 Palin. The Democrats did not vet Obama. ‘I saw John McCain\u2019s attack ad, negative, cynical politicians and all that squad of people. They lied about Obama and Biden, and they attacked you for being part of this campaign.\u2019 What lies? What…lies? How about specifying the lies? What lies did she tell? What lies did Rudy Giuliani tell? By the way, Mr. Plouffe, Sarah Palin\u2019s not ‘an attack squad.\u2019 She said she\u2019s a pit bull with lipstick. ‘But worse of all,\u2019 continues this fundraising letter, ‘and this deserves to be noted. They insulted the very idea that ordinary people have a role to play in our political process.\u2019 <\/p>\n

What? Insulted the idea that ordinary people have a role to play in our political process? She is the epitome of ordinary! Her narrative is that she is an ordinary American. Did you miss that? They didn\u2019t miss any of this. They\u2019re trying to miscast it. They got it. They got it. They understand that she is what they can never be. They understand that Sarah Palin is what no Democrat woman can ever pull off. No Democrat male politician can ever pull off what she pulled off last night. Our people were more excited in that convention hall when she came out last night than on any night during the Democrat convention, including Obama\u2019s. And nobody\u2019s going to say that, but I will. The energy in that place was uncontainable. It was palpable. With Obama, there wasn\u2019t a theme. There wasn\u2019t anything to get excited about except him, and he was nothing new at the time he went out. <\/p>\n

Do you guys at the Obama camp…? You missed the fact that she is an ordinary American who has done extraordinary things? She relates to more of your precious Democrat voters than any of your politicians could ever hope to, and that\u2019s what they know and that\u2019s what frightens them. She trumpeted ‘the very idea that ordinary people have a role to play in our political process,\u2019 not elites. She\u2019s not an elite. She\u2019s not a lawyer. She\u2019s not from the Ivy League. I love see these people tripped up like this. And then the fundraising letter continues: ‘You know that despite what John McCain and his attack squad say, everyday people have the power to build something extraordinary when we come together.\u2019 Yeah, like what? Make a donation? That\u2019s basically what you ask for, because I think the donations to McCain-Palin are going to be through the roof.<\/p>\n

And then here we go to the piece resistance: ‘Both Rudy Giuliani and Sarah Palin specifically mocked Obama\u2019s experience as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago more than 20 years ago, where he worked with people that had lost jobs and had been left behind when the local steel plants closed.\u2019 He worked with people who lost jobs? Really? What was his work with people who lost jobs? What were his results with people who lost jobs? You are an idiot, Mr. Plouffe, for bringing this up. ‘Community organizer\u2019 is now a national joke. We have been treating it as a national joke on this program ever since it became one of your stellar talking points. Last night ‘community organizer\u2019 was made a national joke! <\/p>\n

Keep bringing it up. Keep trying to defend it. Keep trying to explain it. Keep saying, ‘Twenty years ago, working with people fired from a steel plant, Obama\u2019s qualified.\u2019 What did he do for them? Where are they now? ‘Community organizing is how ordinary people respond to out of touch politicians and their failed policies.\u2019 (laughing) Okay, so we got a great new definition of what community organizing is about: ‘Ordinary people respond to out of touch politicians and their failed policies.\u2019 Well, then who is the community organizer interfacing with? If the out of work people talked to the community organizer, who does he then go to to fix the problem? In Obama\u2019s case I\u2019ll guarantee you it\u2019s another lawyer or it was Bill Ayers or Jeremiah Wright or maybe some state or national congressman. I mean, you talk about out of touch? Ordinary people run for city councils and become mayors! Ordinary people do not become community organizers! That\u2019s why it\u2019s so rare! <\/p>\n

How many of you in your town, if you wanted to become a community organizer, where would you go to apply? To whom would you give your resume? What would be your qualifications if you sought to be a community organizer? You gotta be a community organizer? Don\u2019t give me social programs. Don\u2019t give me Meals on Wheels. Those are handled by other people. Don\u2019t give me all this other stuff, homeless shelters. It\u2019s not community organizer. What the hell is it? How many of you people in your town know where to go to apply for that job? How many of you in your town know a community organizer? And how many of you have known a community organizer who went on to something big and great? Not that they haven\u2019t, but how many of you know of one? Well, yeah, okay. Al Sharpton organized the community with Tawana Brawley. I mean, what are we talking about here? We\u2019re talking about an Obama campaign that has been rocked…back…on…its…heels. They are in deep trouble. They have a lot to fear today. They know it and they are feeling the fear.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: A lot of people sending me e-mail. ‘Rush, she\u2019s the new Reagan.\u2019 No, there is no new Reagan. She\u2019s Sarah Palin. She got a little populism in her, folks. We\u2019re not looking at Miss Perfection here. We\u2019re looking at somebody that\u2019s real and refreshing and genuine, honest, and is one of us. And let\u2019s not make it more than it is yet. There\u2019s a long way to go here, and the enthusiasm that they have built last night and the previous night, hope they can maintain it tonight, come out of this convention with everybody as energized tonight and tomorrow as they are at this point. Now, here is Sarah Palin\u2019s comment on the community organizer resume of Obama.<\/p>\n

PALIN: I was mayor of my hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities. I might add that in small towns, we don\u2019t quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they\u2019re listening and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren\u2019t listening.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Awesome, awesome.<\/p>\n

PALIN: No. We tend to prefer candidates who don\u2019t talk about us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I feel like I\u2019m listening to Republicans react to the Democrat convention in 1984. The Democratic convention of 2008 is almost identical to that San Francisco convention in terms of the sheer radicalness of the nominee, of the attendees, the delegates and so forth. Now, here\u2019s Gibbs. This is Robert Gibbs, an Obama advisor, last night on Larry King Alive.<\/p>\n

GIBBS: Let me tell you a little bit about what Barack Obama did when he moved to Chicago. He went into neighborhoods that had been decimated by steel plants that had been closed and helped those guys get job training and get jobs and get back up on their feet. That\u2019s what Barack Obama\u2019s done with his life, and I think that\u2019s an experience that we\u2019ll put up against the governor of Alaska, the senator from Arizona, or, quite frankly, anybody else in this race.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You want to do a contest on the creation of jobs, Sarah Palin, how many jobs she\u2019s created and how many jobs Obama created or McCain? Let me tell you what Obama did. Let\u2019s just pull back the veil, shall we? We all know what Obama did as a community organizer in Chicago. He worked for ACORN. You know what ACORN is. It\u2019s an ultra-radical left-wing fraudulent voter registration operation that is caught routinely, frequently cheating, registering illegals, registering people multiple times. They\u2019ve been a victim of lawsuits. That\u2019s who Obama worked for. That\u2019s Chicago thug politics, as described by Bill Clinton. And that\u2019s what he was doing in the community. He was learning from the bottom up, gutter Democrat Party politics. They talk about him as a community organizer as a way to mask that. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
