CALLER: I just wanted to posit a new idea about Obama, as to why he\u2019s not sweeping us all off our feet, even though he was causing women to faint earlier this year — <\/p>\n

RUSH: Tell me.<\/p>\n

CALLER: — at the rallies.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Tell me, tell me, say it, say it.<\/p>\n

CALLER: He\u2019s not likable. It\u2019s really simple. The man is odious. He talks like a girl. You ran a clip yesterday of Gloria Steinem, excuse me, Jane Fonda.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Jane Fonda, yes.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Those two women are fairly interchangeable, and making the case for women\u2019s radio, the need for women\u2019s radio. Well, that could have been Obama opining on his version of foreign policy. It\u2019s pure psychobabble. <\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, now wait a minute. Normally I would discount any assertion that Obama is unlikable. But when it comes to women assessing political characters, personalities, you gotta give it some weight. You gotta give this some credibility. It would have never occurred to me that Obama is unlikable. But you don\u2019t doubt women on stuff like this.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s exactly how it happened yesterday here on the EIB Network. One other thing, too, that I failed to notice during the call yesterday, when she said that he\u2019s not likable, ‘he talks like a girl.\u2019 You know, if you listen to Obama, he is sort of a metrosexual type. I wouldn\u2019t use the word pansy, but he clearly is not the kind of guy that a real conservative woman is going to find to be a real man, a real guy. He\u2019s a touchy-feely kind of guy, and I think that\u2019s relevant, too. Now, in listening to that call again, after that call, I endorsed that woman\u2019s attitude, saying, don\u2019t doubt women like this. I got plenty of e-mail from people saying, ‘Rush, that\u2019s crazy. You\u2019re never going to get anywhere by saying Obama isn\u2019t likable.\u2019 From the Chicago Sun-Times today, Carol Marin: ”Women Voters Aren\u2019t Warming to ‘Cool\u2019 Obama.\u2019 — A few hours after leaving the ‘Women for Obama\u2019 luncheon, I ran into Sarah, not her real name. I\u2019ve known her for a few years. A single mom, she free-lances, working as many jobs as she can to support two growing boys. She dreams of a permanent gig with benefits, but it\u2019s still just a dream. A 37-year-old Democrat, she is also a college grad and a news junkie who has watched this campaign like a hawk. She surprised me with her anger Tuesday, saying she\u2019s voting for McCain. To Sarah, Barack Obama is like the organic chicken at lunch. Sleek, elegant, beautifully prepared. Too cool.\u2019 My instincts again correct. <\/p>\n

Dick Morris, Real Clear Politics: ”Obama\u2019s Women Problem\u2019 — The problem is that older women don\u2019t like Obama as much as younger women do. While 70 percent of women under 40 have a favorable opinion of the Democratic candidate, only 58 percent of women in their 40s feel the same way, and only 52 percent of those over 50 see him favorably. Usually, the gender gap runs at least 10 points in each age group and, more usually, averages a 15-point differential. The lower gap in this race does not indicate any special popularity for McCain or negatives on Obama among men. Men are voting the way they usually do. It\u2019s women who are making the big difference and keeping this race tied.\u2019 Dick Morris. My instincts yesterday totally correct in trusting the instincts of the caller. Women, as they get older, have a problem with this guy. Los Angeles Times, Peter Nicholas and Mark Z. Barabak: ‘Obama Meets with Key Women,\u2019 is the headline. The thrust of this story is that he addresses sexism that existed in the Democrat Party. The women are still angry at the sexist treatment Hillary got, and, as such, Obama has to go and mollify them. So there is trouble with paradise, and our caller, Janet from Maine yesterday put her finger on it. <\/p>\n

RUSH: Here\u2019s Sarah in Lancaster, California. Nice to have you, Sarah. Welcome to the program.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes, hi, Rush! Oh, I\u2019m thrilled to talk to you after, I don\u2019t know, 19 years. First, can I correct a faux pas that I made the first time I talked to you?<\/p>\n

RUSH: You made a faux pas 19 years ago and you want to remind people?<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, about two years ago regarding my husband of 15 years. He is the one who introduced me to your show; and when I talked to you two years ago, I forgot to say hi to him.<\/p>\n

RUSH: And you\u2019ve been paying the price ever since.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Huge faux pas. It\u2019s just terrible. Poor man. Anyway, can I say hi to him? Yes?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yes, you may go right ahead.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay, his name is Andrew. Hi, honey, love you, thank you for introducing me to Rush. Anyhow, so, I had to correct that. My point about Obama and why older women, say 40-plus, are losing our case for him: We know a smooth talker when we hear one. We may not want to admit that we\u2019re being fed a line or empty words, but we know it when we hear it. We\u2019re experienced enough. We\u2019re smart. We have so much going on in our lives, we get to a point that we want to hear substance.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, now, wait, wait, just a second here, Sarah.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Hang on. You\u2019re conservative, right?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes, I am. Weeeell, I\u2019m conservative —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, wait. Therefore, Obama would never appeal to you, correct?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Actually, the first time I saw him at the Democrat convention years ago, the first thing I said to my husband was, ‘That man\u2019s going to run for president,\u2019 because he is shiny and new. He gives a good line; he\u2019s attractive. And, you know, people who do not — mostly women who do not — pay attention to the words coming out of his mouth —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, but you see —<\/p>\n

CALLER: — and how it makes him —<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s what this news is all about. Women are paying attention, and the older, more-informed and more-mature women are not buying the act. They\u2019re not buying into it at all. And the reason — according to Dick Morris\u2019 polling data, anyway, the reason why everything is so close here — is because women have not swallowed this thing whole and signed up, they\u2019re on the Kumbaya Express for hope and change in the future. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
