RUSH: We\u2019ll go to Pittsburgh, home of the Steelers. Christie, nice to have you on the EIB Network. Hello.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, hi, Rush. It\u2019s so good to talk to you.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you. I know.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hey, I have a — well, not a question for you. The media is always going to give Barack Obama a pass. That\u2019s a given.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yes.<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s done. I\u2019ve just don\u2019t think that John McCain should. I mean they question his ability to lead and we hear nothing. I mean this is huge for McCain, this should be a commercial.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Were you listening yesterday, Christie? We played the sound bite of McCain\u2019s response to this.<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, it is just not enough.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You sound really, really torn here.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I am.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Frustrated. I can tell you exactly why you\u2019re torn. You\u2019re torn because you love America, you support conservative values, the things that made this country great, and you don\u2019t hear any elected official defending himself —<\/p>\n

CALLER: Nothing.<\/p>\n

RUSH: — or us when they are attacked.<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, very alone out there, nothing, we hear nothing.<\/p>\n

RUSH: McCain\u2019s response yesterday, he sounded a little hurt. It was very low-key, and he said if that\u2019s the kind of campaign they want to run, they can run that kind of campaign, but no attack on me ever put a drop of gasoline in your tank. He actually stole a Clinton technique, you know, in his debate with Bob Dole.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No attack ever fed a hungry child. You know, McCain is trying to stay above the fray of politics as usual. <\/p>\n

CALLER: And he should. I understand that, but it just seems like when George W. Bush ran, I got bumper stickers, shirts, I wanted him to be president. But now I feel like the only reason to vote for McCain is because I don\u2019t want Barack Obama. That worries me, because can a candidate win like that? I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yes. Yes. I think that this election — I agree with you — is going to be a referendum on Obama, up or down.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: People are going to vote for or against Obama. There will be some Republicans who are loyal, but not nearly as many as the Republican Party believes, who will vote McCain simply because he\u2019s the party nominee. That\u2019s why the McCain camp\u2019s moving to the center, try to pick off Democrats and independents and all the others that we\u2019ve been through. You know, we were talking about qualifications, too, and I want to get off of this topic without saying this. You know, we\u2019re narrowing this whole concept of qualifications based on military service. Obama sends his surrogates out there to attack McCain, ‘Prisoner of war doesn\u2019t mean you\u2019re qualified to be president. Just because you\u2019ve been captured and shot down and ride the jet and so forth, doesn\u2019t mean anything to me.\u2019 And Obama is saying he\u2019s qualified because he\u2019s got character and so forth. You know what I look at, qualifications. You know somebody has \u2019em or they don\u2019t.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: In this case, Obama does not have qualifications. He is not qualified in the way I define qualifications. First and foremost he\u2019s wrong on everything. I don\u2019t care how smart he is, I don\u2019t care how lovable he is, I don\u2019t care about the heavenly light and the messianic countenance, he\u2019s wrong! He\u2019s dangerously wrong about things.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I agree.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That, to me, is not qualified.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I know. It worries me, though.<\/p>\n

RUSH: McCain, on the other hand, is right about a little. But in terms of qualifications&hellip; it\u2019s another way of saying it\u2019s another choice that does not have an active, positive movement behind it. You\u2019re voting against somebody or you\u2019re reluctantly voting for somebody.<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s right. And that worries me. But I\u2019m sticking with him.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, where you going to go?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Nowhere. There\u2019s nowhere else to go. I\u2019m done.<\/p>\n

RUSH: We can\u2019t afford Obama, in any number of way, we can\u2019t afford him financially.<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, he\u2019s saving the world on your dime. My dime.<\/p>\n

RUSH: He\u2019s not saving the world.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, he thinks he\u2019s saving the world, and the people behind him.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No he doesn\u2019t. He may believe that —<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: These people are about power. That\u2019s all this is about. They\u2019re as deceptive as anybody else in politics. This is about power, pure and simple, and how to get it. And the liberals know that the only way they can get it is to somehow erase from everybody\u2019s memory who they are, what they are. So that\u2019s why Obama is tacking to the center now. He\u2019s done a flip-flop here on faith-based programs. He now supports Bush\u2019s faith-based —<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, he does not.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yes, he does. Oh, yes. I\u2019ll lead off the next hour with it. He\u2019s done a couple 180s on things that\u2019s going to really tick off his left-wing kook fringe base.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I don\u2019t know what he\u2019s looking for because I don\u2019t think he can grab the middle. I think he better stick with his left wing.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s what they think. But, see, the left wing, what are they going to do? They going to vote for McCain?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right. Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, no, it\u2019s not so simple. It\u2019s much easier for the left wing to accept McCain than it is for us to accept Obama.<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: And that\u2019s a sad mouthful. Christie, I gotta go. Great to talk to you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Thank you as well.<\/p>\n
