RUSH: No, no, no, you just give \u2019em time, Snerdley, give \u2019em time. They\u2019re still trying to figure out their approach. I\u2019ve already figured out what it\u2019s going to be. They\u2019re already focusing on Breyer\u2019s dissent, in the gun ban today, the Heller case. What a great decision from the Supreme Court today. I like it, yes, but there\u2019s some things about this whole system that are beginning to bother me a little bit. We\u2019ll get into that in great detail as the program unfolds before your very eyes. Meanwhile, the Drive-Bys are just trying to figure this out now. And the AP reporting this, ‘Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, but probably leaves most firearm laws intact.\u2019 They have no idea about that. They\u2019re hoping and speculating. Greetings, my friends, and welcome. It\u2019s Rush Limbaugh, the Excellence in Broadcasting Network and the fastest three hours in media. <\/p>\n

Not a good day for liberals today. Not a good day for liberals. Have you seen all the Obama campaign cutbacks, the staff cutbacks in the Obama campaign? Look at the newspapers that are cutting back. The Palm Beach Post is cutting back 300 jobs. The Baltimore Sun is eliminating 100 jobs. The Obama campaign staff is cutting back. Forty percent of the Palm Beach Post newsroom got the axe. Forty percent, Snerdley. They\u2019re whining and moaning about low advertising and they\u2019ve gotta remain a profitable business and so forth. I\u2019m saying, ‘Well, if you guys at newspapers are going to be so focused on maintaining a profitable business, then why are you upset with the oil companies becoming profitable businesses?\u2019 Anyway, that\u2019s happened. <\/p>\n

There\u2019s a Gallup poll out there that has the messiah tied with Senator McCain. There\u2019s also a Newsweek poll out there that has the messiah up by 15 or so. But guess what I also have? Same Newsweek poll, 1984, 24 years ago, the day after the convention ended in San Francisco, the Mondull convention, and the same Newsweek poll had Mondull up 18 points over Ronald Reagan, who went on to win in a 49-state landslide. Polls right now are absolutely meaningless. I don\u2019t care whose they are. The Bush doctrine, I don\u2019t know. Not sure about this, but it might be working in North Korea, because that little potbellied dictator is going to have his country taken off the terrorist list if he follows through and blows up some cooling tower at a nuclear facility he\u2019s got. We\u2019re supposedly going to have that televised, we\u2019re going to be able to see \u2019em do that, ChiComs involved us and the Brits. The economy is not in a recession. In fact, the economy grew in the second quarter, the latest report it\u2019s up 1%. A recession is defined as two consecutive quarters of negative growth. We\u2019re not even close. We haven\u2019t even had one quarter of that. No recession. And home sales went up in the last reporting period as well. <\/p>\n

Supreme Court today affirmed the Second Amendment unambiguously using the term ‘individual right.\u2019 It is an individual right. What\u2019s stunning about this decision, you can take all of it — and I read it. Scalia is a brilliant man. He was the lone opinion for the majority. Nobody else joined in. The first half of his opinion deconstructs the entire Second Amendment in the most logical, unassailable manner I have ever seen, using footnotes way back to the founding. And of course he\u2019s a big original-intent justice, strict constructionist, as they call them. But it\u2019s devastating. And then of course Steve Breyer and John Paul Stevens have their dissents, and they\u2019re lame. The Second Amendment, as Scalia makes clear — I would urge you, we\u2019re going to link to it at RushLimbaugh.com<\/a>, and it\u2019s written so that you can understand it. I would urge you, when you have a chance, to read this opinion all the way up threw the dissents. You don\u2019t have to read the dissents — well, the Drive-Bys are going to tell you what the dissents are. They\u2019re focusing on Breyer\u2019s dissent right now, that\u2019s their first line of defense against this. But you will understand why strict constructionism and looking to the original intent of the Founders is so crucial to maintaining the integrity of the United States Constitution. <\/p>\n

Everybody has thought, all these legal scholars all these years have thought that the Second Amendment was rather ambiguous because it seems to be a non sequitur, a well regulated militia being necessary, blah, blah, blah, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. He goes through this brilliantly. It is as smart as I\u2019ve heard anybody do it, and it\u2019s just a joy to read this thing. The most striking, the most eye opening — well, it didn\u2019t open my eyes, it just kind of froze them. The most amazing thing about this ruling, the most amazing thing, ladies and gentlemen, the idea that four justices of the United States Supreme Court disagreed with the concept that the Second Amendment is an individual right ought to be a wake-up call for everybody as to where we\u2019re headed if liberals get control, mass control of all three branches of our government. There\u2019s no question the Second Amendment is an individual right. The First Amendment\u2019s an individual right. Scalia goes through all of this in declaring it an individual right. But four justices of the United States Supreme Court disagreed with that. <\/p>\n

It gets even worse. Breyer is sitting there wanting to apply a case-by-case application of the Second Amendment based on what he thinks or the courts would think is necessary, given modern times. I mean this is striking. This is simple. But I\u2019ll tell you one of the things that bothers me about this, not the ruling itself. But every June, the country gets out of bed (panting) and they start panting, and the country says, ‘What will the court tell us we can do today, and what will the court tell us we can\u2019t do?\u2019 The Supreme Court, by virtue of its own usurpation of powers, by virtue of liberal justices being on this court for years and years and years has taken over the role of arbiter of political decisions in this country, not judicial. I mean, yeah, they do some judicial cases, obviously. But it does frighten me that so many people slavishly look at the United States Supreme Court as the final word on issues that are political, not judicial and not legal. So we sit around like little serfs waiting for the crumbs to be thrown our way as we hang outside the big mansion hoping to be fed a little freedom or hoping not to have some taken away from us. And then depending on the decision, we get mad or we get happy. <\/p>\n

So today we\u2019re happy. ‘Hey, they upheld the Second Amendment!\u2019 That should not be news. The fact that this was even up for grabs should be frightening as hell to all of us. The fact that four justices on the US Supreme Court tried to take it away from us, and yet we\u2019re going, ‘All right, all right.\u2019 We\u2019re playing defense, folks. We\u2019re playing defense. And then, of course, earlier in the week we find out that it\u2019s okay to rape a kid and you won\u2019t be executed, even though the state of Louisiana passed a law saying you would be. We go, oh, gee, oh, our emotions go up and down and we argue these things on the merits of the law and society and culture, forgetting the fact that a state has the right to determine how it\u2019s going to punish people who commit crimes in that state if that state does so by virtue of the elected representatives in the state legislature, meaning the people of the state of Louisiana decided this, and the US Supreme Court said you\u2019re too stupid to know how to do this, and they couch this all in legal mumbo jumbo. <\/p>\n

So we sit around (panting), get all excited, then we get disappointed and so forth, and we look at what cases will the court take next term that will be decided and so forth. It\u2019s like we have over the years just casually thrown away our own role in determining our own lives, and we\u2019ve gladly surrendered the power we the people have to a bunch of people in black robes that change every now and then depending when one of them croaks. And whoever happens to be the political leader of the day, the president, whoever runs the Senate Judiciary Committee gets to determine what the liberty and freedom of the United States population will be. At any rate, I have arrived at that propitious moment where it\u2019s time, ladies and gentlemen, for EIB windfall profits. So we\u2019ll engage in those profits now and be right back.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s gotta be the first caller of the day that you\u2019re talking to. It\u2019s not worth it. There have gotta be zillions of other callers that you can talk to. If the caller is making you mad or isn\u2019t worth it, hang up. Move on to the next one. Now, listen to this, before you get back on the phones. <\/p>\n

I left something out when I went through my list of things about it being a bad morning for liberals. Iraq is doing so good, Iraq is so safe that a CBS info babe can have two affairs with two different guys at the same time. Yes, we\u2019re talking about Lara Logan of CBS News, who is a babe. There\u2019s no question she\u2019s a babe, but she\u2019s doing the nasty, she\u2019s in the horizontal joyride with two, one of them some from CNN named Ware and the other guy a CEO of a private contractor. I have the story here. <\/p>\n

‘Sexy CBS siren Lara Logan spent her days covering the heat of the Iraq war — but that was nothing compared to the heat of her nights. The \u201960 Minutes\u2019 reporter and former swimsuit model apparently courted two beaus while she was in Baghdad, and has been labeled a home wrecker for allegedly destroying the marriage of a civilian contractor there, sources said. Passions got so hot in the combat zone that one of her lovers, Joe Burkett, brawled in a Baghdad ‘safe house\u2019 with her other paramour, CNN war reporter Michael Ware, a source said.\u2019 Now, the CEO guy said (paraphrased), ‘No, no, no. The divorce was final. She\u2019s not a home wrecker. She had nothing to do with that. I didn\u2019t start doing the horizontal glide until after the divorce stuff had started; she had nothing to do with that.\u2019 The Michael Ware guy says, ‘I don\u2019t remember ever getting into a fight with somebody. I do remember the horizontal nasty.\u2019 So Baghdad is so safe that a CBS war correspondent can have two affairs with two different guys while the bullets apparently were not flying. It\u2019s not a good day, ladies and gentlemen, for liberals. <\/p>\n

Well, you wonder why they\u2019re ratting out Lara Logan? You don\u2019t know why they\u2019re ratting out Lara Logan? Lara Logan was just brought home. She\u2019s just been named some chief foreign correspondent in the DC bureau. It was okay when Lara Logan — who is a babe — I mean, she is a babe, a former swimsuit model. Have you seen a picture of her, Snerdley? She is a babe. She has no business being in the Drive-By Media, I\u2019m telling you. None whatsoever. They brought her back. Have you ever heard of jealousy? Can we just cut to the chase here? You ever heard of jealousy? And, by the way, this story — I think it\u2019s the New York Daily News. (muttering) I don\u2019t know where it is. It\u2019s at the TVNewster blog. Maybe it\u2019s the New York Post. I read it this morning before I read it on any blogs. So, yeah, they\u2019re taking out their own. Look, you could put all the female Drive-By reporters at a convention and bring Lara Logan in and nobody would notice the rest of them.
