RUSH: So CNN is now saying that Manafort also met with the president of Ecuador before meeting with Julian Assange in the Ecuadoran embassy in the U.K. How come nobody knew any of this?<\/a> Yeah, Mueller is just now investigating this, just now investigating it. What\u2019s he been doing for the last two years?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Sean in Indianapolis. Greetings, Sean. Welcome to the program.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Good afternoon, Rush. It\u2019s a pleasure to be here.<\/p>\n

RUSH: It\u2019s great to have you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I want to share a theory with you. First of all, one of your callers earlier said that he didn\u2019t think the Robert Mueller investigation is ever gonna end. And I think back to the midterms, you know, a few weeks ago. And of course somehow it leaked out that Mueller would have a report out just after midterms and it would not be before. And I didn\u2019t believe that for a second. I thought it was a good strategic motivator for Democrats. And if they would have had anything at all, they would have come out before the election. We all know that.<\/p>\n

So my theory is that the Robert Mueller investigation is absolutely gonna keep going. It\u2019s gonna keep going for a while, but it\u2019s really gonna depend on the momentum that Trump has and the success that he\u2019s having in the next two years. If he has the momentum, then they have to do something desperate, and I think the Mueller report will come out as a desperation attempt to try to change the direction.<\/p>\n

RUSH: So you think if Trump is going great guns, if things are going well for Trump then they\u2019ll step up and issue a report to try to stop him. If the Democrats are able to hornswoggle Trump and keep him distracted, nothing gets done, they\u2019ll keep the investigation going?<\/p>\n

\"\"CALLER: You betcha \u2019cause that\u2019s a strategic advantage for them.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, one thing, I\u2019ll tell you one thing that happens here. If the Democrats step back like Elijah Cummings of the Congressional Black Caucasians is saying, if they step back, if they tone down their own investigations and the Mueller report goes on, the investigation goes on, then in a way when Mueller does report, everybody can say that it was nonpartisan. The Democrats didn\u2019t do anything. The Democrats were not helping. The Democrats didn\u2019t do their own investigations to the extent they promised.<\/p>\n

Now, that would only be important to brain-dead independents and moderates out there. But believe me, a political consultant would advise a party, \u201cLook, it\u2019d be really good if whatever Mueller comes up with, when it nails Trump to the cross, that it\u2019s seen as nonpartisan.\u201d There\u2019s another thing in this that bothers me, and it always has. It\u2019s the word “investigation.” I\u2019ll explain in a minute.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: What do you envision when you hear the word “investigation”? You have the Mueller investigation or the Trump investigation. We had the investigation into collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. We have the investigation of whatever, what do you conjure when you hear that word? And it\u2019s more of a pet peeve with me than it is anything.<\/p>\n

To me “investigation,” I envision constant activity and people literally trying to find out things they do not know. And I don\u2019t think that\u2019s at all what this is. This isn\u2019t an investigation into anything. This is an attempt to construct a scenario that doesn\u2019t exist and didn\u2019t happen. And yet it\u2019s continually called an investigation.<\/p>\n

When you hear the word “investigation,” you can\u2019t help but also think of the word “criminal”! Investigations always involve some kind of criminal or illegal or unethical or whatever kind of behavior. And so just the use of the word alone conjures guilt. And it\u2019s never ending!<\/p>\n

What the hell left to investigate is there? And who\u2019s doing the investigating? A bunch of lawyers? What are they investigating? Investigate, I think of Sherlock Holmes and a gigantic magnifying glass tracking down clues somewhere, looking for gigantic hounds or whatever. I\u2019m being facetious in a way here, but the word “investigation” to me already carries some bit of prejudice about it. Just the very usage of it in this context.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey, Rush, what about that illegal alien?\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"\u201cI don\u2019t know. I\u2019ll investigate that tonight.\u201d Rather than research, I\u2019ll investigate that.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re gonna investigate illegal?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, yeah.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you think you\u2019re gonna find?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d But you\u2019d have a whole different take if I say, “I\u2019m gonna research it. I\u2019m gonna look into it.” But investigate, the investigation conjures all kinds of really competent people looking for evidence of some kind of crime. I know, look, I\u2019m making a bigger deal out of this. It just bugs me because it isn\u2019t what\u2019s happening and yet it\u2019s consistently used, and it\u2019s always gonna be used, and I think it\u2019s inflammatory and prejudicial.<\/p>\n

So I\u2019m just telling you, when I hear it, it already taints my impression of what is actually happening. Robert Mueller is not an investigator. He is a lawyer. He is a bunch of things, but he\u2019s not an investigator. \u201cWell, but Rush, his whole team is lawyers and they are investigating.\u201d Investigating what? In two years they could have found all kinds of things that nobody knew. But they haven\u2019t. They\u2019re having to make it up!
