CALLER: It\u2019s a great honor to speak with you, sir.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I have to agree with Clayton in one aspect: I don\u2019t think Hillary Clinton has a prayer. But, Rush, have you considered the downside of Operation Chaos, being so successful that we could end up with a different nominee that could actually win the general election?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Who would that be?<\/p>\n

CALLER: I think it could be somebody. It would have to be somebody black, somebody like Colin Powell. I think if they elected him, he would absolutely win because he\u2019s on the opposite side of the war as McCain is. He\u2019s already said some stuff, positive stuff about Obama to the point where we don\u2019t even really know what he stands for, but if they should elect somebody like Colin Powell, he could easily win the presidency, Rush, and what\u2019s everybody going to say about what you\u2019ve done here?<\/p>\n

RUSH: (laughter) In the first place, there is no such thing as any paramilitary or military operation being ‘too successful.\u2019 That\u2019s to bastardize the English language. There\u2019s no such thing as being too successful. There is no commander who goes into an operation, ‘Okay, we only want to succeed here 80%.\u2019 In the second place, Colin Powell will not do it. If they are going to go for the Doomsday Option — and, by the way, I don\u2019t think they will. I think some of them — and I don\u2019t know how many, but I think some of them — have to realize they are in deep doo-doo here, folks. They got two candidates that a lot of the country can\u2019t stand now. They are in deep doo-doo. So if they play long here hypothetically: If they did go Doomsday Option and do a third candidate, it would have to be somebody who has at least participated at some point in a Democrat primary. It would have to be somebody like Algore. It would have to be somebody like Edwards. It would have to be somebody… Colin Powell has been a Republican all of these years. Now, I know it\u2019s a long shot, but a year ago none of us thought that Obama would fall from his lofty perch. A year ago, none of us thought McCain would be the nominee. So, the doomsday scenario is entirely possible. It just seems improbable.<\/p>\n\n

CALLER: Let me first of all agree with breathless and sexy mistress-wannabe Janet<\/a> that you don\u2019t really know how good you are. Anyone who can conceive and execute a strategy like this while the Democrats are watching every move, that\u2019s just simply amazing.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, no, no, no, no. No, no, no. I\u2019m just average run-of-the-mill guy — <\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay.<\/p>\n

RUSH: — and I have a chance here to have some fun on the radio. It\u2019s no big deal.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay. Anyway, the doomsday strategy, I think there\u2019s another possible alternative that kind of ties in with your previous caller — and, again, Snerdley doesn\u2019t know how good he is, tying the two of us together. The superdelegates, some of whom want to be president themselves, may decide to just lose this election and let McCain win.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No. No-o-o-o!<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes. Yes!<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, no, no, no. Look, we must not be too smart by half here. You\u2019d have to have… That superdelegate or whatever number of them who want to be president themselves, and therefore want both of these people to lose to clear the decks; you\u2019d have to have those superdelegates be able to put together a majority of other superdelegates to support their effort. That\u2019s not the case. Let me tell you something. These people on the Democrat side, these liberals, don\u2019t ever lose sight of the fact that power is theirs by birthright. They have tasted this White House victory for the last eight years in their minds.
