RUSH: Nora Ephron today at the Huffington Post: another example of how stupid and racist liberals are. She begins this way: ‘Here\u2019s another thing I don\u2019t like about this primary: Now that there are only two Democratic candidates, it\u2019s suddenly horribly absolutely crystal-clear that this is an election about gender and race.\u2019 Well, Nora, it\u2019s always been about gender and race and sex and bigotry and so forth. This is identity politics! That\u2019s what the Democrat Party\u2019s known for. She correctly then asserts, ‘This may have always been true, but weeks ago it wasn\u2019t so obvious — once upon a time there were eight candidates, and although six of them withered away, their presence in the campaign managed to obscure things. Even around the time of Ohio, when there were primarily three candidates, the outlines were murky, because Edwards was still in there, picking up votes from all sectors. But now there are two and we\u2019re facing Pennsylvania and whom are we kidding? This is an election about whether the people of Pennsylvania hate blacks more than they hate women. And when I say people, I don\u2019t mean people, I mean white men. <\/p>\n

‘How ironic is this? After all this time, after all these stupid articles about how powerless white men are and how they can\u2019t even get into college because of overachieving women and affirmative action and mean lady teachers who expected them to sit still in the third grade even though they were all suffering from terminal attention deficit disorder — after all this, they turn out (surprise!) to have all the power. (As they always did, by the way; I hope you didn\u2019t believe any of those articles.)\u2019 Hey, Nora, I want to raise my hand. You ought to have a profound respect for me, ma\u2019am, because it is I, El Rushbo, who has been pointing this out for 18 years on this program. Go check out every presidential election, look at the returns, find out who gets the margin of the white male vote, and you\u2019ll generally — practically every example — you\u2019ll find the winner. Who is it, Nora, that\u2019s been trying to disabuse white men in this country for how long? Has it not been your precious little feminist movement taking root in the late sixties, early seventies? Has it not been the Democrat Party which has sought to disparage white men as predators, child abusers, veritable brutes? It\u2019s your party, madam, which has sought to characterize men this way. <\/p>\n

It is your party which is a minority party and based on the empowerment of minorities, that has had your ammo trained on white men because they were the majority and you hated \u2019em — or the Democrat Party did — as a group. And now the truth comes out. And now it\u2019s: Who do white men hate most? Notice that she does not characterize it or put it in the positive: Who do white men like the most? Could it not be, Madam Ephron, that if Obama happens to get a majority of the votes tomorrow — it\u2019s unlikely, but if he does — couldn\u2019t you say that a lot of white guys like him? If Hillary happens to win, couldn\u2019t you say a lot of white guys like her? No, can\u2019t be! White men have to hate. White men are bigots. They\u2019re racists, they\u2019re sexists, they\u2019re homophobes, and all of that. So she has to put it through the lens of negativity. She then continues: ‘To put it bluntly, the next president will be elected by them,\u2019 white men. Yes, Madam Ephron, as foretold by me for 18, 20 years on this program. ‘[T]he outcome of Tuesday\u2019s primary will depend on whether they go for Hillary or Obama, and the outcome of the general election will depend on whether enough of them vote for McCain. A lot of them will: white men cannot be relied on, as all of us know who have spent a lifetime dating them.\u2019 <\/p>\n

Yeah, it\u2019s right here, Mr. Snerdley: ‘A lot of them will [vote for McCain]: White men cannot be relied on, as all of us know who have spent a lifetime dating them.\u2019 Now, if she were being stereotypically humorous here, I\u2019d laugh myself silly. It\u2019s a great line, if she\u2019s being stereotypically funny because as you people know I happen to love stereotypical humor — you know, how the wife can\u2019t drive, all these things. I always love it. You know, one of my favorite stereotypical jokes is: ‘Good news, bad news. Your mother-in-law\u2019s driving your new Cadillac, but it happens to be going over the cliff.\u2019 So, it ain\u2019t so bad. Now, when you tell a joke like that and you\u2019re attempting to be funny… I like those kind of jokes. Oh, you want to hear another good one? I got this one in the e-mail. A man and a woman who don\u2019t know each other, get the last two seats on a train, an overnight train someplace. The train\u2019s booked, they have to end up in the same berth car. It\u2019s a bunk bed, one on top, one on bottom. They don\u2019t know each other. Their luggage is crammed in there. The guy says, ‘I\u2019ll tell you what, I\u2019m going to make it easy. I\u2019ll sleep on the top bunk. I\u2019ll climb up there.\u2019 <\/p>\n

She says, ‘Fine.\u2019 <\/p>\n

As the night goes on, he gets cold, and needs another blanket, but he\u2019s gotta climb down the bunk bed to get to the blanket. So he wakes her up and says, ‘I\u2019m really sorry to bother you, but could you get me another blanket? It\u2019s freezing up here.\u2019 <\/p>\n

She says to him, ‘You know, it\u2019s just the two of us here. We haven\u2019t met, and nobody knows we\u2019re here. Would you like to maybe pretend that we\u2019re just married for a night?\u2019<\/p>\n

The guy says, ‘Yeah!\u2019<\/p>\n

She says, ‘Go get your own damn blanket!\u2019<\/p>\n

I love that. I love those kind of jokes. Now, if Nora Ephron here is making a stereotypical joke — and, you know, it\u2019s tough to read this, but the rest of this sounds so damn angry that I don\u2019t interpret this as a joke. We also know that she used to be married to Carl Bernstein of Woodward and Bernstein, and we could probably all agree with her that that had to have been formative and had to have been a chore. Carl Bernstein\u2019s a white guy. ‘[W]hite men cannot be relied on, as all of us know who have spent a lifetime dating them. And McCain is a compelling candidate, particularly because of the Torture Thing. As for the Democratic hope that McCain\u2019s temper will be a problem, don\u2019t bet on it. A lot of white men have terrible tempers, and what\u2019s more, they think it\u2019s normal.\u2019 (laughs) I\u2019m telling you, this is great. This is a party of love and compassion and tolerance. We\u2019re getting… This babe, Nora Ephron, I have met her. I\u2019ve been her dinner partner once. She was nice as she could be. I was at a Barbara Walters party in New York a long, long time ago. She\u2019s nice as she could be, but I\u2019m telling you, she\u2019s obviously been shaken. She\u2019s a feminist, and they are angry. I have known this since the early birth of the modern feminist movement. <\/p>\n

‘Is she attractive?\u2019 Snerdley wants to know. Why does that matter, Snerdley? Her picture, you could find it on the web. She\u2019s attractive. See, now you\u2019re going sexist on me. See, what Snerdley is trying to do here is, ‘Well, maybe she fits Undeniable Truth of Life number 24.\u2019 Is that what you\u2019re saying? Undeniable Truth of Life 24 written by me back in the mid-eighties states that feminism was established primarily to allow unattractive ugly women easier access to the mainstream of society. That truth alone — that, of the 35, that one alone — established me as one of the nation\u2019s great thinkers. But she doesn\u2019t fit. No, no. She\u2019s attractive. No, no. This is pure ideology. She\u2019s a feminist, and she\u2019s enraged. They\u2019re all mad. I know. She\u2019s enraged. Feminism has made feminists mad; liberals are mad, she\u2019s got a double dose of mad because she\u2019s a liberal. Liberals are constantly mad. Feminists are double mad. You got a mad woman here. Now, if white men cannot be relied on, I\u2019d like to ask her what men can? Nora, please send me an e-mail<\/a>: What man can be counted on? What men can be relied on? <\/p>\n

You gotta rule out white men. Can black guys, are they reliable? (sigh) Asians? Native Americans? ChiComs? Koreans? Where do we go here? Arab men, are they reliable? If white men aren\u2019t, who is? She says, ‘If Hillary pulls it out in Pennsylvania, and she could, and if she follows it up in Indiana, she can make a credible case that she deserves to be the candidate; these last primaries will show which of the two Democratic candidates is better at overcoming the bias of a vast chunk of the population that has never in its history had to vote for anyone but a candidate who could have been their father or their brother or their son, and who has never had to think of the president of the United States as anyone other than someone they might have been had circumstances been just slightly different.\u2019 In other words, white guys ain\u2019t gonna vote for a black or a woman. It ain\u2019t going to happen, but if Hillary wins here in Pennsylvania, it means she has the ability to soften some of these hateful white guys more than Obama does, and that might matter, because she\u2019s now saying what we all know. The Democrat Party is going to need white men in order to win the presidency. This is why their dream ticket isn\u2019t going to happen. ‘Hillary\u2019s case is not an attractive one,\u2019 writes Ms. Ephron, ‘because what she\u2019ll essentially be saying (and has been saying, although very carefully) is that she can attract more racist white male voters than Obama can. Nonetheless, and as I said, she has a case.\u2019 She can attract more racist white male voters than Obama can! ‘I spent the weekend listening to one commentator after another saying that Obama has it locked up, it\u2019s a done deal. I dunno. Hillary is the true whack-a-mole and if she survives on Tuesday, it will be a whole new ballgame. And it will be all because of white men,\u2019 and Operation Chaos, Nora.
