CALLER: Thank you, Rush. It\u2019s a great honor to talk to you. And mega dittos from a small town in Idaho.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you, sir.<\/p>\n

CALLER: What I wanted to talk to you about was Bill Maher\u2019s insulting remarks he made about my church and my pope, comparing them to the pedophile compound of what\u2019s going on in Texas. And, being bitter, you know, going to church, what Obama said, I take my family to church to be uplifted, to get centered, to find God, to have God in my life and teach my kids values, an attitude of gratitude and what we can do to help other people, and, you know, it outrages me the way the left treats the Christian religion.<\/p>\n

RUSH: They are afraid of you. They are afraid of the pope. They are afraid of anything coming from organized religion that has a belief in God, for a whole host of reasons. It makes them feel guilty; it makes them aware of their own shortcomings. I didn\u2019t hear what Bill Maher said because I don\u2019t watch his show, but I\u2019ve gotten a lot of e-mails from people who were upset about it. If I were you, I wouldn\u2019t waste much energy on it. You\u2019re talking about another miserable human. He\u2019s obviously gotta be one of the most miserable people walking the planet. This man cannot be happy.<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s what I was going to tell you, Rush, you know, we\u2019re not the bitter, angry people. The people who have Christianity and God in their lives, they\u2019re the ones that are happy. It\u2019s what I tell my kids and my daughter, I say, ‘Look at the idols that the liberals put up, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, all these people that are absolutely miserable.\u2019 I tell my kids that, if you got God and values in this country, you can do anything. You know, and my church teaches me to pray for these people.<\/p>\n

RUSH: See, you are exactly the kind of guy that Obama was talking about, talking to the elitist gazillionaires in San Francisco. And he looks upon you with disdain. He thinks — and a lot of liberals do — think you have this belief system that you have because there\u2019s nothing else in your life, you know, your IQ may be a little short of normal and average, and so you cling to these things that give you comfort during times of distress because you\u2019re too stupid to know anything else. You\u2019re the kind of guy that Obama was talking about, that\u2019s what he thinks of you, and that\u2019s what a lot of the liberal Democrats think of people that live in small towns who are religious, and it\u2019s because religion scares them, religion instills fear in them, for a host of reasons. We\u2019ve discussed it countless times on this program. Among the reasons is that there is judgmentalism, there is a definite morality, right and wrong, there are not gray areas. There\u2019s not a lot of nuance, and they consider people that ascribe to these beliefs and teachings as closed-minded and bigots and just not very bright. And while they would be happy to get your vote in an election, they don\u2019t want to see you the rest of the four years after that \u2019til it\u2019s time to do it all over again.
