RUSH: Bob in Miami, I\u2019m glad you called, sir. You\u2019re next on Open Line Friday. Hi.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hi, Rush, and thank God that you\u2019re on the air.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you, sir. I agree.<\/p>\n

CALLER: You\u2019re the watchman on the wall, my friend, sounding the alarm.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Trying to, yes.<\/p>\n

CALLER: First of all, Rush, I have been around a long time, since before World War II, and I have seen these political parties deteriorate to what they are today. I have had it with both of them. Both of them are not worth the powder to blow \u2019em to hell. We need a third party desperately.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Did you say they\u2019re not worth…? Wait a minute. Did you say neither party\u2019s worth the powder it would take to blow \u2019em to hell?<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: (laughter) I love that. I love that. Because I thought you said, they weren\u2019t worth the powder to make \u2019em up. And I said, that can\u2019t be, so I read the transcription. The powder to blow \u2019em away. Great.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, it\u2019s true.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yes. Yes.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Let me tell you something. Like I said, I\u2019ve been around a long time.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER: We have parties now and voters and people in this country who think it is fashionable to be a traitor to your country. Whenever you give aid and comfort to the enemy during time of war — it\u2019s in the Constitution, if these morons want to ever look it up — it\u2019s punishable by death. Now, if the New York Times ever printed, say, for example, we had cracked the Japanese code in World War II. Do you know what would have happened? Five minutes after that article hit the street, the FBI, Secret Service, US Marshals would have been up there and arrested everybody that had anything to do with that thing, with the exception of the truck drivers, the printers, and the copy boys. And they would have been tried for treason. And if they were found guilty, they would have been executed. If people don\u2019t think that we executed people during the Second World War for treason: Rosenbergs. Look it up. I am fed up with these parties. I have had the course. I\u2019m watching my country slowly but surely go down the toilet because of these people who put their party before their country, and I have had it. I will vote for a Republican this time because I don\u2019t vote for traitors, and that\u2019s what these people are. You\u2019ve got Daschle out there. He\u2019s out of it. You got Pelosi out there. <\/p>\n

RUSH: Be careful. I knew what you were going to say —<\/p>\n

CALLER: I know, I know.<\/p>\n

RUSH: — because we have a 40-second delay. If you say anything, we can handle it.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I don\u2019t want to be rude and crude. I\u2019ve learned something over these years.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, it\u2019s a very fine line between rude and crude and accurate.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, in that case, she\u2019s a bitch!<\/p>\n

RUSH: All right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: All right? I\u2019ve had it with them. I\u2019ve had it. They\u2019ve put their party before the country, and I am sick of it. I\u2019m quite sure I speak for a lot of people out here when I say it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You said you\u2019re going to vote Republican this time. Have you been voting Democrat?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Are you crazy? I started out as a Democrat in the forties and fifties. Then I noticed that the Democrats left me, and I went independent. And then when Reagan came around and I voted for him, and I said, ‘Oh, I finally got party.\u2019 Now the Republican Party has left me. I\u2019ll stay Republican, just to vote in primaries, because independents can\u2019t vote in primaries. But I have had it. I have really, really had it. It\u2019s got to the point now —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, what are your grievances against the Republicans?<\/p>\n

CALLER: We sent them to Washington to do something for the country, not to bend over and kiss their butt, okay? You can censor that if you want.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Kiss whose butt, their own or the Democrats\u2019?<\/p>\n

CALLER: The Democrats\u2019. You know, there\u2019s two parties that are supposed to, be against each other and come to some kind of an agreement that pleases everybody and is good for the country. These Republicans now have bent over backwards to go help the Democrats, and all they succeeded in doing is driving our economy through the floor by this excessive of spending. You want to see something? You know, I don\u2019t want to really plug another guy\u2019s show, but go to Glenn Beck and read the interview with [sic, David Walker, comptroller general] Wilson, the controller general of the United States. We are in debt, and we will never get out. Do you know what the debt is?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, it\u2019s —<\/p>\n

CALLER: Fifty-three trillion dollars.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yep.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Fifty-three trillion! I don\u2019t think there\u2019s that much money around, and it\u2019s the way he said it over there. In order to get out of this, every family has to pay 200 or $400,000 to get out of this debt.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Fat chance of that.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You know, Bob, one of the things that you mentioned here in your monologue was that the Republicans have failed and they have joined the Democrats to try and get along. That\u2019s frankly one of the things that really bugs me because what the Democrats want is not good for the future of the country. What the Democrats want is what\u2019s good for them, and I can tell that\u2019s what\u2019s bothering you. They would just as soon trash whatever they have to trash in order to reclaim their power and then claim to go about fixing the mess that they made. The problem is they don\u2019t fix any mess that they make — and there are gobs of them out there, from all of the social welfare programs, part of the Great Society and the war on poverty, abject messes. Social Security is far, far and away beyond what it was ever intended. Well, I take that back. I think FDR knew exactly what he wanted and he got it: something that was a leading indicator or factor in getting Democrats elected every four years as often as possible. This is what bothers me about Republicans who think that there\u2019s something in showing that they\u2019re nice people and they can get along with Democrats. When that happens, the Democrats get at what they want, they prevail, and it is frustrating. I understand that profoundly. It\u2019s one of the big problems a lot of us are having in this particular campaign cycle. Bob, I appreciate the call. I gotta run. Don\u2019t cave in yet. Don\u2019t give up. As long as here we\u2019re, there\u2019s still a chance. I will tell you when it\u2019s time to pack it in.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: We just hung up on our phone conversation with Bob from Miami, and I checked a couple e-mails during the commercial break, and a surprising number of people — in a good way, a surprising number of people — said, ‘You know, people ought to listen to that old-timer. These old-timers are the ones that need to be listened to,\u2019 and it reminded me of the timeless wisdom capsulated by my 35 Undeniable Truths of Life, in which number 16 says: ‘The collective knowledge and wisdom of seasoned citizens is the most valuable, yet untapped, resource our young people have.\u2019 Of course, a lot of young people look at seasoned citizens and say, ‘I don\u2019t want to hang around Grandma. It\u2019s not cool.\u2019 But, boy, if they ever did… You gotta listen to people who have been alive a long time.
