Our old buddy Cabot Phillips at Campus Reform goes to Washington Square Park in New York City, encounters a bunch of Millennials, not just college students, but a bunch of Millennials, asks \u2019em about Governor Cuomo\u2019s statement that America was never that great.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SlTI6a2oYiA\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>PHILLIPS: Do you think America has ever been truly great?<\/p>\n<p>MAN: I don\u2019t believe America has been great for all folks ever, even today.<\/p>\n<p>MAN: I would have to agree with Governor Cuomo.<\/p>\n<p>PHILLIPS: Can you point to a time or do you think there was a time when America was great?<\/p>\n<p>MAN: I mean, not particularly.<\/p>\n<p>PHILLIPS: Do you think that there is a time you can point to where America was great?<\/p>\n<p>WOMAN: I don\u2019t know. Honestly.<\/p>\n<p>WOMAN: Not great but, like, there was definitely some progress. And I think we\u2019re going through a regression now.<\/p>\n<p>MAN: It was never really great, but we do, like, great things sometimes. Like, we fix a lot of problems, but it\u2019s never just been wholly great.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-282875\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/APP-082218-Left-Protest.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/APP-082218-Left-Protest.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/APP-082218-Left-Protest-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/>RUSH: Now, it depends on how in the weeds you want to get on this and how far back you want to go to find flaws and how deeply you want to dig to find flaws. But my problem is that these &#8212; I think what we heard there is the product of education. I think a lot of America-hating, America-disliking, multicultural identity politics, oddballs have gotten hold of academia and have been poisoning minds for a long time.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not to say that America\u2019s perfect. Great does not mean perfect. The greatness of America, American exceptionalism is all about America\u2019s promise, America\u2019s uniqueness, its singular role in securing freedom and liberty for humanity. In that regard it\u2019s been nothing less than great. And to specifically not teach that and to not encourage that is really problematic. And to succeed in convincing people America\u2019s the problem going forth is also not good.<\/p>\n<p>BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: Okay, so I got a guy sending me a note &#8220;What do you mean, what do you mean America isn\u2019t great? How about at its founding when it created its first government anywhere with limited powers? How about the Civil War? We\u2019re among the first countries to throw off slavery, the first to fight a war to do so.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-267089\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Liberals650-020217-Liberals-Undo-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"312\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Liberals650-020217-Liberals-Undo-1.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Liberals650-020217-Liberals-Undo-1-300x144.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/>Oh, I agree, but every one of these incidents or episodes that you think would define American greatness, I can tell you what the left would say. It can\u2019t have been great to need a war to get rid of slavery. We should have never had slavery. We were filthy, rotten, discriminatory SOBs. How you can say that a war to end something that should never have been makes us great? I can hear the left spew their rejection of every one of these premises.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s see. What\u2019s another one? How about when the U.S. gave women the right to vote? See, you think it\u2019s great that we gave women the right to vote? The fact of the matter is we were denying women the right to vote. How can you say anything that did that was great? I know exactly what they would say.<\/p>\n<p>I told you Marie Harf, the left-wing valley girl was on Fox yesterday debating this very premise, that Cuomo was right and she had somebody on the panel saying America is great, &#8220;Oh, you think it was great when I couldn\u2019t vote? You think it was great when I couldn\u2019t get a credit card without my husband?&#8221; It\u2019s the way they look at it. They look at all of the imperfections in the past, and they say strikes against America.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that any of it has been resolved, the fact that any of it was fixed, the fact that any of it was corrected and improved doesn\u2019t count. The fact that it existed in the first place is all you need to know about America. That it was a racist, sexist, bigoted, white, Christian, discriminatory patriarchy. That\u2019s all they\u2019re taught, that\u2019s all you need to know.<\/p>\n<p>Now, you can say, well, that means these people are ignorant of world history. You mean that there was slavery everywhere until it ended here? Well, the Brits might argue with you about that. William Wilberforce. (interruption) What was the world before America? I know. I\u2019m just telling you how these kids have been taught. I\u2019m telling you how these leftists have been taught.<\/p>\n<p>Every imperfection that, by the way, the Constitution paved the way from its original writing to fixing. The fact that these original sins existed doesn\u2019t matter that they\u2019ve been corrected, fixed, or eliminated. The fact that they were present proves that this place isn\u2019t what people think it is. So then you cite what we did for the world in World War I and World War II. What do you mean, what we did for the world? We imposed our power on people, and it was none of our business. We had no business imposing our way of life in either of those world wars whatsoever. I know every example you could cite of American greatness or exceptionalism and how they would refute it, with anger, by the way. Now, you might say, &#8220;I don\u2019t know what it is, I can\u2019t imagine living in America and not loving America.&#8221; Well, you better try to find out, because an increasing number of young people actively do not like America, actively think that America is the problem in the world. And they don\u2019t know world history.<\/p>\n<p>They probably don\u2019t know that slavery existed everywhere. They probably think it started here. They probably think we brought slaves here as part of the foundation. Who knows what they think. I can guarantee you what they\u2019ve been taught, on balance, is gonna be a load.
