RUSH: Back to the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press and their survey. They went and they talked to Trump voters, and they found that “solid core of support” remains for Trump among those who voted for him. However, 20%, “[n]early one in five Trump voters from 2016 have soured on him since he took office,” and of course, this is “according to the nonpartisan Pew Research Center.” This is a survey of 3,014 voters.<\/p>\n
They “took part in a panel that was questioned three times during 2016 and then again in 2018. Each time, they were asked to rate their feelings about Trump on a 0-to-100 scale. Because the same people were questioned each time, pollsters could track which individuals changed their minds about Trump. Based on that, Pew put Trump\u2019s voters into one of four categories…”<\/p>\n
Enthusiasts, converts… Let\u2019s see. Enthusiasts, converts… Da-da-da-da-da. Well, that\u2019s two of them. Anyway; so they\u2019re trying to make the case here that it\u2019s happening that people that voted for Trump starting to sour on him, starting to get embarrassed of him — and it\u2019s always about the tweets. It\u2019s about the tweets and the separation at the border.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Two days ago you were saying that President Trump should campaign on both the economy and immigration. And I think he also ought to bring up the Supreme Court, not just the gentleman who hopefully will be confirmed before the election, but what if the Democrats should take the Senate? Ginsburg probably wouldn\u2019t hesitate to retire because President Trump could not nominate a conservative and get him or her confirmed.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Trump could nominate anybody he wants. If the Democrats start obstructing Trump, Trump\u2019s gonna nominate somebody they don\u2019t like, either. Trump\u2019s not gonna give \u2019em what they want. The Senate, even Karl Rove had to admit today that it looks like the Republicans might even pick up three seats in the Senate.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Thank God. Anyway, I mean, I just thought mentioning the — it wouldn\u2019t be a bad idea to campaign on the Supreme Court as well, because that did motivate a lot of people.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Yes, it does, but here\u2019s the reason the idea was immigration and the tax cut. We\u2019re talking House races, and House people have nothing to do with the Supreme Court. So Trump stumping for, in this case went to Ohio 12, that\u2019s a House of Representatives seat. Now, I think — see, Trump\u2019s not campaigning for himself there. Well, he is, but whoever wins Ohio 12 is gonna have literally nothing to say about Supreme Court nominees.<\/p>\n
And I don\u2019t mind throwing it in the mix; don\u2019t misunderstand. But the objective here is for Trump to turn out his base. If the Democrats do have all this energy and if they are turning out in massive numbers, then Trump must get his base out too. I mean, at the bare minimum Trump has to get his base out. And that\u2019s why people were suggesting immigration, number one, because that\u2019s what got him elected. And then the economy, tax cuts, number two.<\/p>\n

The left has totally taken care of the leadership of the Democrat Party. The Leninist, Stalinist, Alinskyite model has taken hold. That\u2019s why I have my one quibble with what you and the other conservative hosts are saying.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t think this is Trump Derangement Syndrome. Because Trump is basically irrelvant toward it. Now, he\u2019s a big target. He\u2019s brash, he\u2019s outspoken, he\u2019s exactly what they can\u2019t stand: A powerful figure who swats them away. However, I think they would have done this to anyone. Even if a RINO like Kasich had been chosen, they would be doing this to him, although I don\u2019t think any Republican, especially including Kasich, would have stood up auto to the abuse that Trump is standing up to. But I think if the Republican establishment would only admit to itself that this is what they\u2019re up against — exactly what you said. It\u2019s not this policy versus that policy. This is, “You are the devil, and we are going to destroy you.”<\/p>\n
RUSH: Right.<\/p>\n
CALLER: That\u2019s their approach.<\/p>\n
RUSH: So you don\u2019t think that Trump Derangement Syndrome is driving them per se because he won. It\u2019s just they would react this way to any Republican who had won?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Yes. Because Rush, they were so close. If Hillary had won, they were in. Eight years more of that stuff, we would be well on our way to Third World irrelevancy.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Let me ask you, I don\u2019t dispute that. I don\u2019t dispute what would have happened if Hillary won. You mentioned Kasich. Let\u2019s say Kasich had won. Would they have said the Russians meddled and tampered and Kasich colluded with them?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Whatever it took to diminish him. Look at McCain. He\u2019s their big buddy until he actually runs, and then what happens?<\/p>\n
RUSH: He remains their big buddy, though! That\u2019s the difference. He remains — and Kasich —<\/p>\n
CALLER: — lost, but, Rush, when he was running, they were beating the hell out of him.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Yeah, and they would continue to do so even after — if he won they would continue.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, I don\u2019t think so because whatever policies they put in place would not be all that they want. I mean, Kasich is a weak sister, but he\u2019s not a lefty. And I think they would still be unhappy that he won, because he would be under some pressure to appoint semiconservative judges or semiconservative —<\/p>\n
RUSH: Generically I agree with you, but I think there is Trump Derangement Syndrome, because Trump is an outsider. The fact that Trump won coupled with the fact that they thought they were gonna win in a landslide, the fact that Trump beat them, it is something they have taken personally, and it has shaken them up. And the media does have Trump Derangement Syndrome.<\/p>\n
CALLER: I agree with that, because he is such an in-your-face target. I mean, he really is the worst that could have happened to them. But I think that they still would have tried to eviscerate —<\/p>\n
