RUSH: Steve in Lansing, Kansas, I\u2019m glad you waited, sir. Welcome to the program.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Mega dittos, Rush.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Longtime listener since the eighties. First time I\u2019ve gotten through. I\u2019d like your guidance relating to the general election and today\u2019s Drudge headline. My question is about what kind of weight we\u2019re putting on, or should be putting on, electability for general election. I mean, whether it is the DNC or Romney behind the Drudge headline about Huck, do you think it\u2019s possible the Dems are using reverse psychology and they are actually scared to death of a likable Huckabee, who won 48% of the black vote in 2002; he gets the union endorsements; he can bring out the social conservative base en masse probably. It would be the return of the Reagan Democrats. Do you think that could be what\u2019s going on?<\/p>\n

RUSH: It\u2019s possible. When you\u2019re talking about politics, particularly the Democrats, anything is possible. They could genuinely have fear of Huckabee. I doubt it, but I think it\u2019s possible. I love the way people think, and I know that this program is largely responsible for inspiring thought in previous skulls full of mush. But sometimes you can outsmart yourself by being too smart by half. All this reverse psychology, I can understand the theory, with it coming from Democrats, okay so they put out a story on Drudge, ‘We can\u2019t wait for Huckabee to be the nominee. We\u2019re so excited we\u2019re going to hold all of our fire. We\u2019ve got ammo to destroy the guy, but we\u2019re going to wait \u2019til he gets the nomination in the general election.\u2019 And the reverse psychology, ‘Wow, we\u2019re really afraid of Huckabee,\u2019 but the reverse psychology in that circumstance is that, ‘Gosh, Democrats could cream Huckabee, we can\u2019t have Huckabee,\u2019 when, in fact, Democrats are really scared of Huckabee. I think to understand, or put this in perspective, I don\u2019t think the liberals, the Democrats, their elitism and arrogance does not permit them to be scared. <\/p>\n

Now, their lunatic fringe voters are. Folks, I have to tell you something, the biggest problem the Democrats have right now is not a Republican candidate. It\u2019s this sense of entitlement this election\u2019s already over. They thought that in 2002, they thought it in 2004, and they think it again. What nobody\u2019s asking, what happens if they lose the House and Senate? What happens if they don\u2019t win the White House? Can you imagine?<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Ed in Milford, Connecticut. I have a couple of minutes, but I wanted to get to you because you\u2019ve been holding on for quite a while. Thank you. Ed?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hi, Rush. The optimism that you\u2019re showing, I appreciate it most of the time, but it\u2019s making me a little nervous, and what it is is, we had a lot of optimism last election. We got our butts handed to us. A guy called up, I think it was yesterday, and said to you, ‘Which Republican can Hillary not beat, is that what he said?\u2019<\/p>\n

RUSH: Neither.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, I\u2019m sorry, I must have got it wrong. I thought you suggested she couldn\u2019t beat any of them.<\/p>\n

RUSH: He gave me two Republican names, didn\u2019t he, and said, which one would be easy for Hillary to beat? I said neither.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay. Well, I disagree. I think that woman —<\/p>\n

RUSH: The key word was ‘easy.\u2019<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I think that woman could walk away beating anybody given if the wind blows correctly —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Why are you so afraid of this woman? She puts her pants on one leg at a time like every other guy does. Why are you so afraid of her? <\/p>\n

CALLER: It\u2019s not her that I\u2019m afraid of her. I\u2019m afraid of ourselves because we don\u2019t seem to have the balls to go after this woman. You got speeches like Oprah made yesterday —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Time-out. Do not delete that — talking to the engineer — we\u2019re going to let that stand, since it\u2019s talking Mrs. Clinton, it\u2019s truth, so…<\/p>\n

CALLER: There was a speech the other day by Oprah, she made all these messianic —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Platitudes; that\u2019s right they\u2019re trying to make Obama out to be messianic.<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s right, so why don\u2019t we go out and start making arguments about the separation of church and state and be as ridiculously childish as they are?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Look, I will agree with you. I can tell you for a fact I know this. Republicans in Washington, elected both sides, are dispirited as hell because they\u2019re leaderless. They\u2019re leaderless. They need a leader. Don\u2019t mistake my optimism for the fact that I plan on enjoying my life regardless who wins. I\u2019m not going to make myself miserable. I\u2019m going to do everything I can to see that my guys win — guy, girl, whatever — but you\u2019re mistaking optimism for the fact that I\u2019m genuinely happy most of the time. In fact, I never have been happier. But I do think if we get a leader and something cracks the right way, we don\u2019t have to concede defeat already.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
