RUSH: We do have Huckabee here on what a lot of people thought he won the thing last night, his sense of humor, his presence, his personality. ‘Governor Huckabee, 30 seconds: three programs that you would eliminate.\u2019<\/p>\n

HUCKABEE: Anderson, the first thing that I would get rid of would be the Internal Revenue Service. You get rid of the IRS, and that would account for most of the problems. Most people in this country are more afraid of an audit than they are a mugging, and there\u2019s a reason why.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, let me ask you a question about this. Now, a lot of people said, ‘Wow, good answer.\u2019 Are we ever going to get rid of the IRS? Are we ever going to get rid of the current tax code? I hate to be a bummer, and I\u2019m not giving up on this, but I just want to tell you what the challenge is. I know, because there\u2019s all these advocates out there of the flat tax and the Fair Tax, and I like \u2019em all. I like Neal Boortz and John Linder\u2019s idea, the FairTax; Steve Forbes and his flat tax. They\u2019re all out there, but (sigh), my friends… and I know people are saying, ‘Why don\u2019t you lead on this? Why don\u2019t you lead on it? If it\u2019s something that can\u2019t be done, only you can get it not done,\u2019 and that is this: If you expect these members of the House of Representatives, people like Charles Rangel and everybody on the Ways and Means Committee, to give up that power — they\u2019re the ones that write the tax code, and their lobbyist buddies — that\u2019s the greatest single power these guys have, and to give that up, on their own, for whatever valid, valorous reasons? It ain\u2019t going to happen. We\u2019re talking social architecture. We\u2019re talking punishment of political enemies. We are talking reward for political friends. To give up the social architecture — and for somebody to actually come to an elected official, and say, ‘We\u2019re going to get rid of the IRS,\u2019 that\u2019s something that is not going to happen. Next question, Anderson Cooper said to Governor Huckabee, ‘I do have to press the question. The question was from the viewer, ‘What would Jesus do? Would Jesus support the death penalty?”<\/p>\n

HUCKABEE: Jesus was too smart to ever run for public office, Anderson. That\u2019s what Jesus would do. (applause) <\/p>\n

RUSH: The death penalty is not a tough biblical question. You just don\u2019t want to answer it. Not only is the death penalty in our founding documents (‘No one shall be deprived of life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, without due process,\u2019 meaning a trial), it is also recognized throughout the Bible. Here again you have a situation. These questions that are being asked, these YouTube questions, are more designed to expose conservatives as the racist bigots, sexists and homophobes that liberals think they are. Now, what was this theoretically? Theoretically this was a debate for Republicans to learn about Republicans, for Republican voters to learn about these Republican candidates. It was not that. This is another example of a left-wing, Drive-By Media exposing conservatives for who they think they are. <\/p>\n

RUSH: As to this death penalty question and what would Jesus do, how many of you are familiar with the Old Testament? If you could go back and ask Pharaoh about what God would do, just go back and ask Pharaoh what God would do. In the Old Testament, what would Jesus do? This is so asinine. When conservatives bring up Jesus, ‘Oh, wow, why, they want to impose their religion on us. What a bunch of kooks and freaks.
