RUSH: By the way, there was a Drive-By editorial today in the Chicago Sun-Times. Hillary is going to have to come up with some of these papers from the Clinton Library and Massage Parlor to demonstrate her experience. It\u2019s just not right that she gets away with saying she\u2019s got all this experience, that there\u2019s evidence of what she did in the White House that nobody can see. Now, this is from the New York Post today, and this is interesting, too, because yesterday we had a news story from California where new citizens, legal immigrants, who had gone through the process earning citizenship, when they leave the courthouse after being sworn in as citizens, they\u2019re sort of hijacked or ambushed by Democrat operatives who are seeking to get them to register to vote as Democrats, and these people are not. They are registering Republican. <\/p>\n

Now, there\u2019s so much media conventional wisdom that\u2019s wrong, and one of the things that was forever wrong during the amnesty bill debate was, from the Republican side, they said, ‘We have got to show these people that we care about them and they\u2019re the backbone of America because we\u2019ve gotta get these votes. We\u2019re alienating these Hispanics and it\u2019s not going to be good.\u2019 That\u2019s what the whole thing was about, anyway: the pursuit of votes by both parties. So the conventional wisdom almost always is wrong, and this story yesterday gave evidence of that, of how these people came out and said, ‘We\u2019re voting Republican.\u2019 They resent all the illegals and all of the efforts to make them legal without having to go through the process that the people who have gone through it have had to endure. They resent it, and they\u2019re voting Republican. They\u2019re registering to vote as Republicans. <\/p>\n

Now, obviously, they are not as many naturalized citizens here as there are illegal immigrants. But it does turn things on its head, and I\u2019ve said that the two big issues in the general election next year are going to be taxes and illegal immigration. The Democrats are wrong on both sides. They\u2019re not quite yet up to speed, but they\u2019re getting there on just how precarious their position on illegal immigration is. So that takes us to this story in the New York Post today. On Thursday, ‘Hillary Clinton came under fire yesterday from immigration supporters for her flip-flop on allowing illegal aliens to obtain driver\u2019s licenses. On Wednesday Clinton stunned advocates by announcing that, as president, she would not support giving licenses to illegals, after indicating recently that she favored the move.\u2019 <\/p>\n

By the way, somebody needs to tell Mrs. Clinton that presidents have nothing to do with driver\u2019s licenses. Those are done by the states. So whether she supports it or doesn\u2019t support it or is going to demand it or stop it — she can\u2019t do either. Well, I take it back. A phone call to a governor from Don Vito Clintonleone could probably get a lot done, but I\u2019m talking about constitutionally. ”She\u2019s trying not to bring heat onto herself,\u2019 said a ‘very disappointed\u2019 state Sen. Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx). City Councilman Kendall Stewart (D-Brooklyn), who chairs the council Immigration Committee, said ‘I\u2019m not happy with that\u2019 when asked about Clinton\u2019s latest stance. ‘I thought she was happy with the first proposal which Spitzer had — which is a driver\u2019s license does not have anything to do with immigration, doesn\u2019t have anything to do with terrorists,\u2019 Stewart said.\u2019 Look, folks, it\u2019s very simple. If you\u2019re going to give an illegal person a legal document, which is what a driver\u2019s license is, then you are, by virtue of that, making them legal. <\/p>\n

A driver\u2019s license is a legal document. If you give one to an illegal, then you\u2019ve just made them worthless. Show me a country that has not had an interest in who gets into it. Every country that has borders — and every country does — is worried, except the communist countries which try to keep people in. But everybody tries to control who gets into their country. If you don\u2019t have borders, you don\u2019t have a country. The Democrats don\u2019t care about any of this. This was simply a move for illegal immigrants to get driver\u2019s licenses so they could register to vote. Democrats want and need those votes in the states and throughout the country. By the way, Peter King, congressman from New York, is going to introduce a bill saying that no state can authorize driver\u2019s licenses for illegals. What is it, six or seven states already have it? Six? <\/p>\n

So anyway, the point here is, from Ruben Diaz in the Bronx, ”She has to explain why it took two weeks to find an answer to a simple yes-or-no question.\u2019 He\u2019s not yet made a presidential endorsement.\u2019 But here, don\u2019t misunderstand. I\u2019m not saying this is going to hurt Hillary, because nothing is going to hurt Hillary with Democrats in New York. She\u2019s going to get the nomination, the primary votes there. That\u2019s not the point. The point here is that the Democrats clearly want illegals to become citizens by fiat, by waving of a magic wand. Where everybody thought the Republicans were going to end up being in trouble on this, with each passing day with this story in the news, it\u2019s the Democrats who are learning that they have a much bigger problem here with this issue than Republicans do. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
