RUSH: Now, you heard that Governor Spitzer gave up on the illegal driver\u2019s license thing for illegal immigrants yesterday. Did you also know that he dropped his Internet tax idea that we talked about yesterday on this program? Marcia Kramer at CBS 2 HD in New York reported that the governor reversed course on two major issues in one day, immigrant driver\u2019s licenses and the Internet sales tax. Snerdley, you may not have heard me talking about this because you were screening calls, but he was going to up the sales tax on Internet purchases starting in December for the Christmas season. (laughing) So two up and two down, ladies and gentlemen, thanks to us here at the EIB Network. <\/p>\n

RUSH: To Sarasota, Florida, this is Paul. I\u2019m glad you waited, and welcome.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hey, Rush, mega dittos. Thanks for everything you\u2019re doing out there.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: First of all, I gotta say, waiting on hold for you was absolutely awesome, because you get to listen to all the parodies and it really puts you in a good mood.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, gotta play more of these more often, especially some of the most recent ones, they\u2019re a hoot. I\u2019m glad you reminded me of that.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, yeah, they\u2019re great. My question, and your call screener said that you probably answered this yesterday. Unfortunately, I clean pools for a living so I\u2019m in and out of the truck all day. My question was, do you think Spitzer\u2019s reversal on this driver\u2019s license issue was the result of the Clinton machine —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yes.<\/p>\n

CALLER: — and, if it was, do you think they did that on purpose to make it a, quote, unquote, nonissue for Hillary so it would kind of go away?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yes. Yes, yes, yes. The line that I used yesterday was, I asked anybody if they had seen Governor Spitzer on a rowboat in Lake Placid with Don Vito Clintonleone. Because, look, there\u2019s a pattern here. Remember the problem that got Senator Bob Torricelli in trouble in New Jersey?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH: His corruption problem, he was plummeting in the polls and he had a meeting with Don Vito Clintonleone and he resigned and he started crying and he thanked Bill Clinton for all that he had done for him. Why thank Bill Clinton? And then Andrew Cuomo was running for something, maybe mayor of New York, I forget which, and Don Clintonleone asked him to step aside — or else. But it\u2019s not just me. Fred Dicker, who is a reporter for the New York Post in Albany, he\u2019s their head honcho, their bureau chief up there, was on Hardball yesterday afternoon, and Chris Matthews said, ‘Do you know if Hillary Clinton had anything to do with Spitzer\u2019s decision to do his 180?\u2019 Fred Dicker said, ‘Yeah, we believe she did. We were told, I was told at a very high level in New York politics that Mrs. Clinton\u2019s campaign, or some of her top people, signaled Governor Spitzer\u2019s people that he had damaged her. They were wondering what the heck he was up to, why did he bring it to the floor now, made it clear the governor was hurting her and he ought to back down if he wanted to help her, which he says he wants to do.\u2019 <\/p>\n

Question from Matthews: ‘Is anybody in his office saying that or are you getting that from a third party? Is anybody in Spitzer\u2019s office saying the governor got the word from Hillary to cut it?\u2019 Dicker: ‘In his camp, but not his office, but at the highest levels.\u2019 ‘Well, how does it work?,\u2019 Matthews said. ‘Did she send word through New York politicians that it was hurting her?\u2019 ‘Well, first of all Spitzer is a smart guy,\u2019 Dicker said. ‘He\u2019s aware of what happened. Secondly, they travel in high circles, high-level consultants talk with one another, governor\u2019s political consultants and advisors were advised as to the damage that was done here and that\u2019s how it was relayed.\u2019 Now, you understand here, Paul, what Fred Dicker just said. It was Mrs. Clinton who botched the answers. She gets mad at Spitzer for hurting her.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right. <\/p>\n

RUSH: Again, the chickification of the world and of the country, because the bottom line here is, yeah, Spitzer, he was doing what he wanted to do for New York. Mrs. Clinton had gotten away without being asked about it. If she was really that concerned, she should have told him, ‘Get that outta there now, I\u2019m going to be asked about this, and I don\u2019t want to be asked about it.\u2019 So she gets asked about it, is unprepared, doesn\u2019t have an answer, flip-flops, and then puts pressure on Spitzer to pull it because he\u2019s hurting her. Look, folks, this goes on in politics, don\u2019t misunderstand, I\u2019m just saying that this is the kind of use of raw power, and she\u2019s not some demure little girl here that\u2019s being beaten up on by the guys. Here she is beating up a guy. ‘Hey, Eliot, you pull that, you pull that from your agenda. I don\u2019t care if it\u2019s going to help you, I don\u2019t care if it\u2019s going to hurt you, because it ain\u2019t about you, Eliot, it\u2019s about me, so you pull that.\u2019 Now, we\u2019re supposed to sit here and not be critical because Mrs. Clinton is a girl. Thanks for the call, Paul. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Hi, Rush. I\u2019ve been listening to you talk about Mrs. Clinton and her position on driver\u2019s licenses for illegals.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER: The thing that I really had enjoyed is watching, you know, Barack Obama pile on her, but my question for you is, what is his position on driver\u2019s licenses for illegals? I really think that this goes to the core of what you\u2019ve been talking about with the girl thing and we need to ask these candidates this, you know, they need to be put on the fire —<\/p>\n

RUSH: They didn\u2019t have to be asked because in the October 30th debate in Philadelphia, when Hillary fumbled and mumbled her way through this, they all came out and said it was a stupid idea to give driver\u2019s licenses to illegals. I know that Chris Dodd did. I know that Edwards did. In fact, did you hear the statement that an Obama spokesman released yesterday? Wow, this is fabulous: ‘When it takes two weeks and six different positions to answer one question on immigration, it\u2019s easier to understand why the Clinton campaign would rather plant their questions than answer them.\u2019 That\u2019s a hard-hitting statement. I wonder if Marianne Means or other feminist women are going to get on Obama\u2019s case for being mean to Hillary.<\/p>\n

CALLER: You make a lot of good points, too, you know. If she can\u2019t stand up to the men asking her a few uncomfortable questions, then how is she ever going to stand up to some of these tyrannical rulers?<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s the thing. She can stand up to them. She\u2019s just trying to get women, and she\u2019s just relying on this poor, weak, set-upon victim. She\u2019s plays the victim perfectly. She\u2019s got a lot of feminist reporters coming along now helping her establish that image as a victim. You don\u2019t doubt for a moment, do you, that she can stand up to these guys?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I really kind of do. I don\u2019t know, I guess I don\u2019t have a lot of confidence in the state of the world, and, you know, some of the enemies that we have in our world right now.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, the way it appears, that she can\u2019t stand up to them, it\u2019s not because she\u2019s afraid of them. I frankly think she doesn\u2019t like them. I think it\u2019s because she doesn\u2019t want to have to get specific about anything, and that\u2019s where this driver\u2019s license thing really bummed her out because she had to take a specific position, and she\u2019s now in great contradiction. These past two weeks she has said she is totally in favor of amnesty, the comprehensive immigration reform. Now she\u2019s been forced to say, no way should illegal immigrants get driver\u2019s licenses. In fact, she even said, to give you an idea of her arrogance, she said, ‘When I\u2019m president, no illegal will get a driver\u2019s license.\u2019 Well, I\u2019m sure, Mrs. Clinton, presidents don\u2019t have purview over that. The states do.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Wow. I don\u2019t know, I\u2019m just glad that Tim Russert actually took that leap and, you know, tried to nail her down on this, because, you know, she\u2019s not the only one that needs to be nailed down about it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Exactly right. This is a bad issue for the Democrats, and more and more Drive-By Media members who advise Democrats, via their Drive-By columns. David Broder is just the latest today. No, this is a huge trouble for them, as is the issue of taxes. Now, your point about how she\u2019ll stand up to these thugs around the world, it\u2019s not that she won\u2019t stand up to them.
