Now Susan Rice — whose son was converted to conservatism by virtue of this program<\/a>. You know about Valerie Jarrett, you know what I have found? I, of course, and many of you, know full well who Valerie Jarrett is. But I\u2019m surprised at how many people don\u2019t know what she did. I mean, she was Obama\u2019s right hand and still may be.<\/p>\nShe moved in with the Obamas in their house when they left the White House. Now, what was said about Valerie Jarrett by Roseanne Barr, that\u2019s beyond the pale. But Valerie Jarrett… I mean, if you want to know who the architect of the Iranian deal actually is, you have to include Valerie Jarrett as one of top two people the conversation. Valerie Jarrett was the policy architect for Obama. That was her value. I have lot of people asking, “Why is she bringing up Valerie Jarrett? Who\u2019s Valerie Jarrett?”<\/p>\n
You\u2019d be amazed. A lot of Obama voters didn\u2019t even know who Valerie Jarrett was, which is a smart move. One of the most key, integral policy makers in the Obama administration was not even known — widely known — to a bunch of left-wing Democrats.<\/p>\n

The thing that you have to understand about Roseanne is, from the moment her first episode drew record audiences, ABC wanted to get rid of that show. They were not comfortable with it. Now, do not doubt me on this.<\/p>\n
“But, Rush! But, Rush! That doesn\u2019t make any sense. Look at the revenue that…” CNN is evidence that party and ideology come way before money. ABC has a whole lot of ways to make up the money that they would lose by canceling Roseanne, and the money they\u2019re gonna lose is about $45 million to $60 million per season. That\u2019s the advertising revenue. That\u2019s gross. But I guarantee you, from the moment that first episode drew record audiences in its live broadcasts, in its DVR replays, streaming feeds, all of that…<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t know for a fact, I\u2019m just telling you: I know these people. I know the Hollywood left. And I guarantee you they were nervous about this. The fact that this show with a bunch of Middle Western Ohio hicks who like Trump is the highest rated show? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no! So, can\u2019t have that. They\u2019ve been looking for a way to ice this show since that first episode.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Mega, mega, mega dittos, Rush. I\u2019ve been listening since Dan Quayle got scolded for not being Jack Kennedy. So for a while. I\u2019ve got a different take on the media\u2019s obsession with Roseanne. I think they\u2019re trying to draw our president out into making what they assume will be the sort of comment that will cost him his following, which I think is probably a big miscalculation.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Well, to put your call and your point in context, I opened the program by mentioning that people were expressing their shock that CNN and people would not let go of this Roseanne thing. I said, come on. This is all about fantasy. We wish it were Trump. This is a dry run. They get up every day hoping that they\u2019re gonna one day be able to do this about Trump and force him out of office. Now, your point is that they\u2019re doing this hoping to bait Trump into reacting to Roseanne and maybe defending her so that they can then turn fire on him, right?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Well, I think they\u2019ve been the most successful with his comment, or lack thereof comment, back after Charlottesville. I think they\u2019ve used that and used it and used it to the point where it has no —<\/p>\n
RUSH: What comment in Charlottesville was that?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Well, I think when he said there were good people on each side, I still often get people throwing that nonsense at me on social media —<\/p>\n
RUSH: Some of the good people were wearing swastikas.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Right. Right. That sort of thing that they twisted and — yeah. And I think —<\/p>\n
RUSH: Well, how\u2019s that any different than Pelosi saying even MS-13 has a spark of humanity?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Well, it doesn\u2019t matter what we think, Rush. Common sense doesn\u2019t mean anything in this day and age.<\/p>\n

I wouldn\u2019t put it past \u2019em to think they could do it. So I think the answer\u2019s probably what both of us are saying, \u2019cause course I am never wrong in these kinds of things.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Meeting and surpassing all audience expectations every day. Now, look, there is another possibility to explain this Trey Gowdy business. It could well be…. Look, I\u2019m just throwing things up against the wall here. It could well be that Christopher Wray and Rosenstein, when they showed Gowdy and Nunes this stuff, it\u2019s people not Papadopoulos and Page. Maybe the FBI has information on other people in the Trump campaign that were involved here that we don\u2019t know about that they do.<\/p>\n
Look, I\u2019m trying to give Gowdy the benefit of the doubt here, because I don\u2019t have any doubt this campaign was spied on. I don\u2019t have any doubt that Trump\u2019s wires were tapped in Trump Tower. I have no I doubt that the Obama administration was spying on Trump, that they were doing what they could do to cause problems for the Trump campaign. I have no doubt. I know this because of the dossier — the Hillary Clinton dossier. She bought and paid for it and they try to pass it off as legitimate intelligence.<\/p>\n
I know for a fact that political opposition research was converted or used as supposedly legitimate intelligence by the Obama administration to spy on Trump! It\u2019s irrefutable, folks. It happened. The details of it George Papadopoulos and Carter Page stories are so widely known that I can\u2019t believe Gowdy doesn\u2019t know those details. So maybe they told him or showed him evidence involving two other people whose names we haven\u2019t heard of that the FBI thinks were in contact with Russia.<\/p>\n
We know it can\u2019t be the Trump Tower meeting with Trump Jr. and Jared and the honey pot there, Veselnitskaya. By the way, Trump has responds to the Roseanne Barr situation, but not in the way the Drive-Bys have been hoping and not in a predictable way. Here\u2019s Trump\u2019s tweet. “Bob Iger,” who\u2019s the CEO of Mickey Mouse. “Bob Iger…” Which owns ABC. “Bob Iger of ABC called Valerie Jarrett to let her know that ‘ABC does not tolerate comments like those\u2019 made by Roseanne Barr.<\/p>\n
“Gee, he never called [me] to apologize for the HORRIBLE statements made and said about me on ABC. Maybe I just didn\u2019t get the call?” So Trump has tweeted. He\u2019s waiting for the apology call from Iger for all of the unkind things that have been said about Trump (laughing) on all the ABC shows and newscasts. Oh, and I want to point out one other thing before we go back to the phones. In every Roseanne story — and they\u2019re never ending today.<\/p>\n
Starting with late yesterday when the brouhaha exploded, practically every mention of her name is followed by the fact that she a strong Trump supporter, am I right? “Roseanne Barr, comma, strong Trump supporter, comma, said Valerie Jarrett looks like a cross between the Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes. Roseanne Barr, comma, strong Trump supporter,” blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Okay.<\/p>\n
Well, while this has been going on, over the weekend, the Manhattan DA arrested Harvey Weinstein, million-dollar bond, million-dollar bail. Weinstein got his perp walk and he had all kinds of cameras on him and all kinds of media attention. Did you ever hear, “Harvey Weinstein, strong supporter of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama”?<\/p>\n

No. Yet you can\u2019t miss “Roseanne Barr, strong supporter of Donald Trump,” blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019m good. Thanks for having me.<\/p>\n
RUSH: You bet.<\/p>\n
CALLER: I know I might not be swimming in shark\u2019s water here, but I\u2019m gonna go out on a limb. I fall right in the middle of everything. I really do. I try not to let one side or the other coerce me or pull the wool over my eyes in one way or another. But I find for me, take this Roseanne Barr situation as an example, do you think there\u2019s an element of — I think for people on the left what it really comes down to is that it seems like, whether it be the media or from the Trump party itself, that everything he says — one of your callers said with Charlottesville as an example on both sides, it just seems very difficult for anybody — I guess I\u2019ll just, for lack of a better term, on the right say, you know what, maybe he didn\u2019t mean that, maybe he did, doesn\u2019t make him a racist, but he shouldn\u2019t have said that.<\/p>\n
And I feel that that common ground is not gonna be found until there\u2019s — I\u2019ll say this goes for both parties. But Trump in particular, he says things and there\u2019s no lie. He could do something and it\u2019ll get twisted and turned and it\u2019s like, well, this is what he really meant, and they\u2019re trying to twist it. But isn\u2019t the truth that some of things that he says he shouldn\u2019t say? And I don\u2019t hear the media call him out on that. In fact, I hear, you know, you have the left, you have like your CNNs and, you know, going after him. And then you have the right defending him.<\/p>\n
But isn\u2019t there a common sense rule here where it\u2019s, you know what, you shouldn\u2019t have said that. With Roseanne Barr, he tweets out this morning, “Where was my phone call?” It\u2019s not the same. It\u2019s not the same. And there has to be an element at least, somewhere, at some point, where there is a line where someone that supports Trump can say, “No, I\u2019m not calling him a racist. No, I\u2019m not saying he\u2019s this that or the other thing, but, you know what? He shouldn\u2019t have done it.”<\/p>\n

And it\u2019s because of that way, the way he is, the way he acts that people have a hard time seeing things the other way. And I fall right in the middle. I try to look at things from all angles. I really genuinely do. But it\u2019s hard for me to take one side or the other seriously when I don\u2019t hear anyone saying, “You know what, that thing in Charlottesville, you shouldn\u2019t have said that. Why shouldn\u2019t you have said that? Because it\u2019s bad. It\u2019s a bad thing to say. Why is it a bad thing to say?”<\/p>\n
And then when you call it out I find it\u2019s always, “Well, did they say this with Hillary? Did they say this?” There\u2019s kind of this deflection. There\u2019s gotta be some common ground, and the common ground is only gonna come when people can admit on both sides what the other person is saying, and there\u2019s gotta be a lean one way or the other where he\u2019s held accountable a little bit. And my question to you, I guess would be, what could he say that crosses the line? Has anything he ever said crossed the line in your mind? And I appreciate you taking my call.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Well, wait a minute. Before you go away, when you say is there —<\/p>\n
CALLER: Yeah.<\/p>\n
RUSH: — anything that crossed the line, who\u2019s judging? Because I would tell you that every time he opens his mouth he crosses the line to the media or to the Democrats. There\u2019s nothing he can say that they\u2019re gonna approve of or not find a problem with.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Don\u2019t you think that — I mean, in reality, don\u2019t you think that\u2019s not helping his cause? And I get the whole, you know, that\u2019s who he is, he\u2019s a real man\u2019s man, and he doesn\u2019t care what anyone thinks, but —<\/p>\n
RUSH: No, it\u2019s not about that. It\u2019s not about being a man\u2019s man. It\u2019s not about being a tough guy. It\u2019s about not giving them a win. They\u2019re not interested in the goodwill that you seem to want to see here. The critics of Trump are not interested in goodwill or common ground. All they want to do is force him out. They want to get him to have to resign or be thrown out. They want to get rid of him and nothing less will do. They\u2019re not seeking cooperation.<\/p>\n
CALLER: People like me, people like me just want to see some accountability. Listen, if someone on the left does something, I\u2019m the first person to be like, that\u2019s garbage, that that\u2019s not right. And I just feel like everything that Trump does, and I literally mean everything he says and does, it\u2019s just like the walls go up, and let\u2019s defend. Defend, defend, defend to the death, because if we give them one inch, they\u2019re gonna take a mile. And I think that is a real problem. And I think the end goal for everyone should be not to change someone\u2019s mind, but to at least try to understand where the other side\u2019s coming from. And I don\u2019t think that\u2019s ever gonna happen until there\u2019s a realistic accountability held.<\/p>\n
RUSH: See, the thing is, Chris, I already know where the left\u2019s coming from. There\u2019s nothing they can say that\u2019s gonna educate me any more about who they are. And I\u2019ve made up my mind they need to be defeated, not understood. I already understand \u2019em. This is politics and we\u2019re talking about future of the country. And they have a totally different view of this country and what it should be than I do. And in my mind, they just can\u2019t be allowed to win.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s disappointing itself, but it\u2019s also I saw it coming. It was like giving a kid a pack of matches and hoping he — wishing he didn\u2019t start a fire. This woman has been known to open her mouth and say things that just don\u2019t make sense. It\u2019s just too bad because now, now they have a paintbrush and it seems like they\u2019re gonna paint us all up to the same color as Roseanne. It\u2019s just too bad.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Let me tell you: You are right on the money with that. That\u2019s the whole point of continually identifying her as a strong Trump supporter. “Roseanne Barr, strong supporter of Donald Trump…” We\u2019re all now “far right.” We\u2019re not conservative, maybe right-wing now, but far right, far right. Anything other than left-wing socialist or communism is being called “far right.” It is intended to be derogatory. It\u2019s intended to stigmatize anybody who is not them as a kook!<\/p>\n
CALLER: And, Rush, if I could, I\u2019ve been listening to you for many years and I\u2019ve never heard you once, not once say words like that. And I\u2019m pretty sure I don\u2019t know any other conservative more stronger and outspoken than you. You know what I\u2019m saying? I mean, you are the spokesman of conservatives. Not Roseanne Barr. I\u2019m not letting her paint us up. I\u2019m just not gonna. And I hope others don\u2019t either.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Some time ago, I guess it was back in March or April, I played the sound bite earlier, and I thank you again because you\u2019re right, I made a point of informing people, she\u2019s not — Roseanne, if you like her for this episode, the TV show praising Trump, fine. She\u2019s not a conservative. I warned everybody, that\u2019s not who she is. But they\u2019re trying to lump her in with any Trump supporter, and they\u2019re trying to say that she is typical.<\/p>\n
CALLER: She\u2019s far from typical. We know that. Way back in the eighties when she did the Star-Spangled Banner, I mean, it\u2019s just fallen right into their hand. To me, it\u2019s almost like it was a setup. Hey, that\u2019s conspiracy theories and, you know, we don\u2019t want to go down that road. At least we can hold that shield of truth like you do every day and just keep it up without firing, just let it go around us.<\/p>\n

DYSON: In many ways, uhhh, this is a proxy conversation because we can\u2019t get Donald Trump. We can\u2019t hold him accountable. But we are going to hold accountable the people in everyday existence in corporate America, on the streets of the society, in commerce, in art, in television.
