RUSH: Now, two other stories I said that intrigue me. And here\u2019s the first one. One is in Salon; one is in New York Magazine by Andrew Sullivan<\/a>. The is a long piece is written by Heather Digby Parton, also known as Digby. A contributing writer to Salon, she was the winner of the 2014 Hillman Prize for Opinion and Analysis Journalism. And the headline to her piece at Salon: “Don\u2019t Claim Trump\u2019s Doing Nothing: He\u2019s Destroying the Federal Government.<\/a>”<\/p>\n

Now, I read that headline and I cheer! Exactly right! The federal government does not need to be destroyed. The federal government needs to be way, way deemphasized in everybody\u2019s life. The federal government needs to become harder and harder to find and harder and harder to see. The federal government needs to become less of an obstacle, become less of a presence. The federal government should become less of a threat to everybody.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

But here this piece is: “Don\u2019t Claim Trump\u2019s Doing Nothing: He\u2019s Destroying the Federal Government.” And this piece is filled with hysterics and tears over what Trump is doing to the government! It\u2019s horrible what Trump is doing to the government. This is terrible. Now, it amuses me, don\u2019t misunderstand, but I\u2019m adopting the tone of the authoress here, and she is paranoid, scared to death.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a pull quote. “Trump\u2019s definition of ‘populism\u2019 is unique. Evan Osnos in the New Yorker writes: ‘In the 2013 novel \u201cA Delicate Truth,\u201d John le Carr\u00e9 presents the \u201cdeep state\u201d as a moneyed, cultured \u00e9lite — the \u201cnon-governmental insiders from banking, industry, and commerce.'”<\/p>\n

By the way, I think that\u2019s true, as just a total aside from the story. The deep state is not just elected people. It\u2019s far beyond that. It\u2019s far beyond people who work in government. How many times have I told you, the deep state is people you never see, you don\u2019t know. They\u2019re the ones who have the money to enforce the orders that they give.<\/p>\n

John le Carr\u00e9, in his 2013 novel A Delicate Truth, defines “the ‘deep state\u2019 as a moneyed, cultured \u00e9lite \u2014 the ‘non-governmental insiders from banking, industry, and commerce\u2019 whose access to information allows them to rule in secret.” That is a quote from this source that the Salon writer is citing here. And it goes on.<\/p>\n

“Trump\u2019s conception is quite different. A real-estate baron, with the wealthiest Cabinet in U.S. history, Trump is at peace with the plutocracy but at war with the clerks \u2014 the apparatchiks who, he claims, are seeking to nullify the election by denying the prerogatives of his Administration.”<\/p>\n

So she\u2019s upset that Trump has put in a bunch of wealthy bankers and billionaires as his cabinet, and now they\u2019re getting rid of the grunts in all of these bureaucracies, the career people who have been the bulwark for liberalism. They\u2019re there, and when we talk about draining the swamp, sadly this Digby person is right on the money. That\u2019s what we mean by draining the swamp. Getting rid of the careerist leftists in all of these bureaucracies, never elected, never held accountable. They\u2019re in there writing regulations, they\u2019re permitting this, standing in the way of that. They are enforcing liberalism when it loses.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re everywhere. They\u2019re in the State Department. They\u2019re in EPA. They\u2019re at Homeland Security. And they are there to undermine Donald Trump. And that\u2019s who he\u2019s getting rid of, and that\u2019s who this writer at Salon is really upset about. “This attack on ‘bureaucracy\u2019 is really an attack on law enforcement, the State Department, the intelligence community and ordinary bureaucrats who enforce regulations and monitor compliance.”<\/p>\n

The story goes on, abject panic over what Trump is doing, and he is doing it. Now, people are misunderstanding the importance of government to the left, I think. It\u2019s not just that government has all the money and distributes it fairly and equitably, plays Santa Claus. That\u2019s part of it, but the love for government involves much, much more than that.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Now, here\u2019s why the government so important to leftists. Government is power. Government is the way they get to tell you to shut up. Government is what they get to use to tell you what you can and can\u2019t do. Government is their enforcement mechanism and agency against conservatives and Republicans.
